Does anyone know that if you get a pit pass, does that allow you into the stands also? Will the pit pass let you roam the fair also?
Thanks

Yes to both of your questions unless something has changed very recently.

Here's to hoping that the near epic, albeit rain shortened, Bettenhausen Memorial will inspire a better spectator turnout for the Ted Horn Memorial! The good car count will be there and the racing has the strong potential to be very entertaining which should be a recipe for a strong crowd!

Looking forward to next weekend!!

Schrader To Attempt Du Quoin Tripleheader This Weekend
Du Quoin is Mr. Schrader’s Neighborhood

By Jay Hardin
Track Enterprises Staff

Du Quoin, IL (August 30, 2021) - The man himself made a startling announcement in victory lane after winning the 28th Sportsman Nationals at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on August 22. Ken Schrader will be running in all three events at the DuQuoin State Fair over the Labor Day weekend. If Schrader can start the main event in the USAC Silver Crown Ted Horn 100, the ARCA Menards Series Southern Illinois 100 presented by Lucas Oil, and the Oldani Memorial DIRTcar Modified race he would be just the third driver in the last fifty years to pull off the Du Quoin “triple”.

A.J. Fike was the last driver to run all three events, doing so in 2004. Before him, it was Larry “Boom Boom” Cannon as the Oakwood, Illinois barber and politician ran the USAC Midget, Silver Crown and Stock Car events during the last weekend of the 1971 Du Quoin State Fair. The other drivers to pull off a “triple” looks like a racing hall of fame, Tony Bettenhausen (1960), Rodger Ward (1960 & 61), Len Sutton (1961), Parnelli Jones (1963), A.J. Foyt (1963 & 64) and Bobby Marshman (1964).

Du Quoin truly is Ken Schrader country. It’s the mile dirt track closest to his home of Fenton, Missouri and the one he and his father visited during the 1960’s watching drivers such as Foyt, the Unser brothers and Mario Andretti. Ken’s short track exploits around the Midwest earned him a legion of fans and they followed him to the Magic Mile at Du Quoin in 1979 when he made his USAC Stock Car debut. On August 25, 1979, Ken qualified third and was running near the front when the engine in his Ford Granada let go. He watched as Rusty Wallace led Don White, Bay Darnell and A.J. Foyt to the finish line.

Schrader ran three more stock car races under the USAC banner and then would be absent from the Southern Illinois 100 until returning twenty years later. He finished second in a 1979 USAC Midget event held on the Magic Mile and ran five USAC Silver Crown races between 1981 and 1985 with a best finish of third in 1983.

Twenty-seven years after making his stock car debut at Du Quoin Ken Schrader broke the Magic Mile victory lane barrier in a big way. He won the ARCA Southern Illinois 100 and a CARS late model race on Labor Day of 2006. He repeated as Southern Illinois 100 champion in 2007 and in 2013. Ken also found victory lane in the Oldani Memorial modified event a record seven times between 2011 and 2019. Schrader is the all-time leader in main event wins on the Du Quoin mile with 11.

ARCA car owner Andy Hillenburg confirmed after the Springfield ARCA event he would field a car for Schrader to drive in the Southern Illinois 100. Schrader’s last ARCA appearance at Du Quoin was in 2019 when he set fast time and finished ninth. He won the modified event in 2019 and made his first Silver Crown appearance in 32 years in 2017 when he finished nineteenth. Ken ran the Bettenhausen 100 at Springfield on August 21 in the same machine that Jeff Swindell ran to second at Du Quoin in 2016, third in 2017 and fourth in 2019.

Ken Schrader, Track Enterprises, USAC, ARCA, UMP and the Du Quoin State Fair look forward to welcoming all race fans back to the Magic Mile after a COVID interrupted 2020 season. The Ted Horn 100 USAC Silver Crown race is Saturday night September 4 along with heats for the Oldani Memorial, the Southern Illinois 100 ARCA Menards race is Sunday night September 5 along with the 20-mile Oldani Memorial for the UMP DirtCar Modifieds.

Tickets will be available on raceday or by calling the Du Quoin Fair office at 618-542-1535. Info and tickets can also be obtained by calling the Track Enterprises office at 217-764-3200.

I have vowed to never miss another mile dirt race. Springfield was awesome and Du Quoin usually is too. And I don’t care if the weather forecast is shaky, I’d rather drive there and get rained out than stay home and miss it.

6TH USAC SILVER CROWN TITLE ON THE BRINK FOR SWANSON ENTERING Du QUOIN

By: Jay Hardin – Track Enterprises Staff

Du Quoin, Illinois (August 30, 2021)………Kingsburg, California’s Kody Swanson was his usual humble self as he accepted the winner’s check and trophy for winning the Bettenhausen 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on August 21.

It would have been completely out of character had Swanson exited the car and boasted about his accomplishments in the USAC Silver Crown Series. Even if he had been boastful, there is no one that could have disputed those claims.

Swanson’s 2021 season has been nothing short of amazing and he stands on the precipice of an unprecedented sixth USAC national championship entering this Saturday night’s Ted Horn 100 at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds in Southern Illinois.

Kody Swanson fully intended to cut back on his time in the mighty uprights after the 2020 season. Swanson was the all-time leader in Silver Crown race wins, he had five Silver Crown titles and was one of 15 drivers who could say they won a 100-miler on all three of the fairgrounds dirt miles. He had little left to prove in the big cars.

Other opportunities began popping up for the likeable Californian including stock cars and sports cars. As a result, Swanson announced he would not be running the Silver Crown cars on the dirt, running only the pavement races for Doran Racing.

External forces combined to eliminate the Hoosier Hundred and the Sumar at Terre Haute from the schedule. The season opener came on May 29 at Lucas Oil Raceway with Swanson leading 37 laps and winning the 100-lap event.

Swanson passed on the dirt event at Williams Grove but a call from Kent Wolters put him in the Mark Swanson Encore Team No. 21 at Eldora where he finished third.

A new track record with Doran and a second at Winchester put him back in the point lead by four over Justin Grant. Swanson followed that with yet another win at Lucas Oil Raceway and the win at Springfield put him 51 points ahead of Logan Seavey and 100 ahead of Justin Grant with three races (including the Horn 100) left.

Kody Swanson is known for his calm demeanor behind the wheel, and it was never more evident at Springfield. In fact, many railbirds compare him to Al Unser or Rick Mears for his ability to manage his race car and come on strong in the final laps.

At Springfield, Swanson set fast time but was relegated to 23rd starting position due to changing his right rear tire. He calmly marched through the field and took the lead just past halfway with rain on the horizon. Rain during the lap 76 red flag period stopped the restart and Swanson had his third Bettenhausen 100 in hand, and a solid point lead.

Kody Swanson is slated to run Saturday’s Ted Horn 100 at Du Quoin with the same Chris Dyson Racing team that won at Springfield and Eldora, and crew chief Sean Michael who won twice last year with Kyle Larson at the wheel.

Swanson won the Horn 100 as a rookie in 2010 and again in 2017. Practice for the USAC Silver Crown championship cars begins Saturday, September 4 at 5 p.m. central with qualifying slated at 6:30 and the Ted Horn 100 at 8:15 p.m.

Tickets will be available on race day or by calling the Du Quoin Fair office at 618-542-1535. Info and tickets can also be obtained by calling the Track Enterprises office at 217-764-3200.

Well Chris I realize I'm not the poster you've asked, but I went and looked at the site and while it may be OK for a quick reference it does leave out a lot of information.

And, the information contained isn't accurate. For example, there is no official time/speed for the 2019 event due to the red flag. Likewise for 2017. While putting information out into the public domain is a wonderful idea, unfortunately many that do so don't strive for accuracy nor spend the time and effort needed to properly gather and verify the information their sites provide.

And, the information contained isn't accurate. For example, there is no official time/speed for the 2019 event due to the red flag. Likewise for 2017. Thanks, my friend!
So, what you're saying is that site is accurate, but incomplete- is that correct? I would agree with that, for sure. The reason I'm hung up on this is because I use info from there quite often and don't want to be putting out misinformation.
Thanks again for your reply.

*Edit- OK, I see your point about official time/speed. Yes, that *IS* inaccurate. Thanks again.

It is for basic info-such as the SC winners since 1971. Historians unfortunately fight the battle of misinformation on the net (I know it drove Donald Davidson crazy). Richie Murray did an excellent job of documenting every Silver Crown season on the USAC website, his work contains all of the SC race results since 1971.

SC12, Thank You very much

I also strive for accuracy. I got kicked off the Dan Gurney facebook page and I was a charter member! (I got off Facebook all together over a year ago and life could not be better) There is nothing worse than misinformation when it deals with the history of our sport.

STAT BOOK: 2021 USAC SILVER CROWN (ENTERING Du QUOIN)

By: Richie Murray – USAC Media

Du Quoin, Illinois (September 1, 2021)………When the sun goes down and the lights go up in the city of Du Quoin, Illinois, it’s a stirring sight.* Especially, when you put a full field of USAC Silver Crown cars underneath said lights, and then it becomes magic.

That’s what we look forward to this Saturday night, September 4, with the running of the Ted Horn 100 at the one-mile dirt oval.

Point leader Kody Swanson enters on a two-race winning streak and looks to become the first driver to win three-in-a-row with the series since, you guessed it, Kody Swanson in 2018.

He leads all drivers in wins (3), laps led (157), top-fives (5), top-tens (6) and fast qualifying times (3), and he’s done in just six starts in the seven races as he holds a 51-point lead over Logan Seavey.

Swanson, who was absent from the round at Williams Grove in June, is striving to become the first driver to win the Silver Crown championship, despite missing a race, since Jimmy Sills in 1994.* And Kody’s already competed for three different car owners, with Dyson Racing on pavement, and a mixture of Chris Dyson Racing and the Mark Swanson Encore Team on dirt.

The Rice Motorsports #222 remains the leader of the entrant points by a 49-point margin with driver Logan Seavey, who resides second in the driver standings entering Saturday at Du Quoin.* A Silver Crown Rookie hasn’t finished that high in the points since Chris Windom was the runner-up in 2013.

Eight drivers have started all seven feature events in 2021 thus far: Dave Berkheimer (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Shane Cottle (Kansas, Ill.), Justin Grant (Ione, Calif.), Mike Haggenbottom (Levittown, Pa.), Austin Nemire (Sylvania, Ohio), Kyle Robbins (New Castle, Ind.), Seavey (Sutter, Calif.) and Travis Welpott (Pendleton, Ind.).

Kody Swanson’s charge from 23rd to 1st at the Illinois State Fairgrounds marked the positions advanced by a Silver Crown winner this season and ranks as the eighth worst starting spot to ever win a USAC Silver Crown race.* That record belongs to Kenny Irwin Jr. who went 28th to 1st at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in 1995.

In the same event during August at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Shane Cockrum (Benton, Ill.) finished third after starting 25th.* That ranks 11th in Silver Crown history in terms of the biggest position advancement by a top-three finishing driver.* Chuck Gurney owns that record, starting 31st and finishing 2nd at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in 1986.

Two drivers enter Du Quoin after earning best career Silver Crown finishes at the Springfield Mile.* Kyle Steffens (St. Charles, Mo.) scored a 5th while Casey Buckman (Chandler, Ariz.) notched an 8th.

Jake Swanson (Anaheim, Calif.) led the first laps of his Silver Crown career in the most recent event at Springfield, controlling 28 circuits between laps 17-44 before finishing 6th.

Carmen Perigo (Stoystown, Pa.) ranks second in the USAC Silver Crown Rookie standings after having the best run of his career at Springfield, getting himself all the way up to second by lap 50 following an outside pass of eventual race winner Kody Swanson.* Dropping back to fifth at race’s end, Perigo was also docked four spots for jumping the final restart.* He has finished inside the top-ten three times in four starts this season.

Same for Matt Westfall (Pleasant Hill, Ohio), who took a 7th at Springfield for his third consecutive top-ten result with the series while Jerry Coons Jr. (Tucson, Ariz.) took 4th for his best series result in three years in what his first series start in nearly two years.

Saturday’s Ted Horn 100 features the USAC Silver Crown National Championship along with the 27th Annual Bill Oldani Memorial Prelims for UMP Modifieds.

Pits and registration open at 1pm Central.* The ticket office and grandstands open at 4pm.* USAC Silver Crown practice takes place from 5-6:10pm, with Silver Crown Fatheadz Qualifying at 6:30pm, UMP Modified heat races at 7:15pm and the USAC Silver Crown Ted Horn 100 at 8:15pm.

Tickets will be available on race day or by calling the Du Quoin Fair office at 618-542-1535.* Info and tickets can also be obtained by calling the Track Enterprises office at 217-764-3200.

Advance tickets (presale) are $25 for adults and $10 for children 11 and under.* Tickets at the gate on race day are $30 for adults and $10 for children 11 and under.* Pit passes are $35 for members and $40 for non-member adults.* Pit passes are $20 for children 11 and under.

Saturday’s Ted Horn 100 will be aired live on FloRacing at https://bit.ly/2ZpafUr.

With the current weather forecast what's the likelihood of a raindate?

With 16 cars entered for the ARCA race... maybe just make Sunday a combined show.
Joking...
OK, half joking :)

Midgets at Sun Prairie on Sunday though

Rain date with Silver Crown,😐

Move it to Monday during the daytime. That was the traditional day anyway and the forecast is good.

Talked to an Illinois State Trooper on grounds at the fair and he had been told car races would be held Monday if there was a rainout. He couldn’t clarify which group, or if both would be ran Monday, but I think there is a very good chance it is ran Monday during the day.

Re: Sat Sept 4 69th Ted Horn 100 USAC Silver Crown @DuQuoin

Someone posted on FB last night on one of the racing groups that they would make the call by 8:30a about today and that if rained out, it would be a day race Monday.

ThrowbackRacingTeam 9/4/21 9:08 AM

Better yet, bump ARCA to Monday so they can run on the hard slick and run the champ cars on a tacky rain soak track tomorrow night:)
