Ultrashield Superseat vs. Butlerbuilt Sprint Advantage
 

Hey guys, i was wondering your oppinion on the Super Seat vs. The Advantage seat. Who runs which, etc.

I like the ultrashield seat better myself, thats what i run in my sprint car. It is safe and a lot lighter than the bultlerbuilt seat imo. Ive never used a butlerbuilt seat but i have heard many people tell me that the padding is so stiff in them that your head just kind of bounces and jarrs around on the rough race tracks. The ultrashield seat is also cheaper and i would not buy anything else except an ultrashield seat.

I have had both! When I crashed at lawrenceburg my ultra shield bent. Never had a problem with my Butler. I love it! As for the padding, Jeannie has changed the padding and it is a lot softer. You hardley know it is there.

I wouldnt trade my Butler for anything

Hands down, the Butlerbuilt is worth the money. Yes they may be heavier, but I feel they are safer. If you are trying to compare safety, then its worth a couple pounds. I ran the other once and had the worst headache ever afterward. Brian Butler and everyone there are always looking for the latest way to make us more safe. Padding, upholstry, craftsmanship is far better than anything else you will see.

Yea, i had heard about peoples' heads getting jarred about pretty badly in the Advantage due to the dense padding, but didnt know if it was true.

this year i used ultrashield seat and had a big flip early in the year and the seat bent quite a bit. the 2nd flip was at kamp, see youtube video, and the seat completely deformed and opened up. i would go with the butlerbuilt, we sure are. its not worth saving the money when you see what a crash can do to them.

Over my career I have used about every seat. I started with the low back thin aluminum. To me there is not a seat that can match the Lajoie seat. From comfort to safety there is not a better seat. Also Randy and the crew are there for any questions and help. Best seat and people to deal with in my opinion.

In every aspect the ButlerBuilt seat is the best seat out there in my openion. I have had a few hard flips in the sprint car (not as hard as others) and the ButlerBuilt seat held up perfict. Nothing was wrong with the seat when we pulled it out of the car. I am a huge fan of ButlerBuilt seats and wouldnt run another brand in one of my race cars. A few pounds isnt worth your safety.

My personal preference would be the Butlerbuilt BUT comfort and proper fit are a major part of the package in keeping a driver safe, so I can't say I would advocate one over the other.

Now, excuse me while I talk out of both sides of my mouth: I wouldn't advocate one seat over another unless that seat was the LaJoie. As Kevin said, the LaJoie is hands down the best seat I have ever seen and rarely do I ever hear any negative comments about it. If you don't feel comfortable with it or have problems with a fit, LaJoie will go above and beyond to help you out.

In my opinion you cannot comprimise weight & money when it comes to driver safety. If you can afford the LaJoie thats what I'd prefer. The craftsmanship, qaulity & comfort are second to none. Plus you can still see out of it, I know personally that in a midget & non wing sprint car the Butler can be difficult sometimes. Not as bad in a winged car 'cause you can't really see out the right side much any way. My first pick would be LaJoie then Butler

how are the head restraints on the lajoie seat? i've heard that they bend pretty easily...are they tubular or solid stock?

I have tested my Ultrashield Halo seat too many times and am satisfied with it PS my son also uses one

I am a firm believer in any Butlerbuilt seat. I have taken possibly some of the hardest rides in sprint car racing and have walked away from all of them. While Lajoie does manufacture good seats, in my opinion you can't get as good of a feel in the car with their rounded frame. When you are going into a corner you tend to slide because everything is rounded in their design. With a Butlerbuilt I feel you can get yourself a tighter fit in the seat and feel what the race car is actually doing without any sliding in the seat.

As with any good company if your Butlerbuilt seat isn't comfortable or fit well they will be more than happy to work with you on fixing it. If you need a contact person e-mail me and I will connect you with them.

It is my understanding that the Ultrashield is pre-made not allowing it to be molded to your size and shape, whereas the Butlerbuilt seat is measured to fit your needs and then built to your specifications.

I have run Butler and LaJoie they are both spectacular seats, But the LaJoie sticks out the most to me when I was talking to Russ Gamester and he said the Lajoie prevented a splintered rear axle from stabbing him in the back, I'm not sure the lightweight seats would have done that! In my opinion cost is not a factor when it comes to safety.
