The best race you saw in 2008?
I saw the question on another board and thought it might make a good topic here.
Mine was the regular show at Bloomington where Dickie Gaines beat Bobby Stines coming out of turn four on the last lap. Kyle |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Kyle,
This isn't fair. I go as often as you, and to narrow down to one is tough. Darland from the tail to win at Kokomo would have to be my favorite. Sumar Classic at THAT would be a real close second. |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Kyle:
The best I seen this year was ISW at kokomo. The drive by hunter shurenburg was outstanding. |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Our favorite race was the Haubstadt race that Daron Clayton won. He has such a tough year it was great to see him get one.

Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
without a doubt Friday night at the Oval Nats.:applaud::thumb

Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Gotta say that I concur: Dynamite Dave Cardey taking Demon and The Rocket as they fought every turn for the Friday Oval Nationals checkered was hands down the best race I saw. Though the back-from-last Hunter win at Kokomo made for the best taped race I saw.
|
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Can't remember the race, Darland won, at THAT, but the first and second went after it for about 10 or so laps.
|
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The Hulman at THAT. Great weather, great racing, happy to be back at Terre Haute.
|
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The burgs midgetweek race..Brad Sweet the winner.
4-crown midget race..Darland and Yeley! |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Too many good ones to narrow it down to just one.....
Darland passing Bland in 3 and 4 on the last lap of the Midget Week sprint feature at Gas City Schuerenberg from the tail at Kokomo Darland from the tail at Kokomo Sprint Week at Kokomo Kokomo Klash (Stanbrough, Bland, Whitt, Windom four wide with about three to go) Whitt over Stanbrough, photo finish, at Kokomo on Aug. 31 Gardner and Clayton's B-main duel at Gas City on Oct. 3 |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The Burg Midget week race:usacfan:thumb
The best on the internet Friday Oval National. Wish I was there for that! Mike T |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The Eldora 4 Crown Midget Race... J.J. and Dave "The Best of the Best" showing their Best!
|
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
I would have to say the run by Hunter S. from the back of the pack after getting collected on the first lap of the feature in early August at Kokomo. He was right on the wall while running down the rest of the field. That was probably the most impressive run I've seen at any track in the last several years.

Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The Kiss race at Gas City(I still hate provisionals)The Demon's run to the front was awesome ,to bad it ended in turn one:doh:
USAC @ BROWNSTOWN Friday of the gold crown midget nats. The battle between Brett Anderson and Ballou @ Pauducah |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Most dramatic and exciting was Rip Williams and Tony Jones wheel-to-wheel @ the checkered @ Perris. How Jones got past for the win was unbelievable.
Dean Mills clip of young Hunter @ Kokomo in July from the back was terrific. I wasn't there though. The special and nostalgic Calistoga weekend featuring duels between Tim Kaeding and Jesse Hockett. The Labor Day weekend Lou Vermeil Classic will be talked about for years. The midget show was special also. I hadn't been to Calistoga in more than 30 years. |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The Kokomo ISW race is very tough to beat... :respect:
Don't forget about the Bloomington ISW race either! The battle between Clauson and Cottle, then Clauson and Cottle with a few lead changes between the two, finally JCJ ending up with the win... I see a trend with Indiana Sprint Week races. :thumb |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The Memorial race at Kokomo with Darland winning his own fathers race. It was the best I seen all year. Really made me think why i love real sprint car racing. Thanks to all the racers that made 2008 a fun year to watch.

Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The one I won lol
|
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The Bloomington Indiana Sprint Week show was not only the best race I saw in '08, but perhaps the best race I've ever seen.:thumb
The Modified feature that night also ranked as one of the best races I saw this season. How often do you see the mods go green to checker caution free? |

I'll just agree with what's been said about Bloomington Sprintweek, Kokomo Sprintweek, Sumar Classic, Hunter from-the-back, Gas City Midget Week (both divisons, Lawrenceburg Midget Week (both divisions), Four Crown Midgets, Friday of Gold Crown, and Friday of Ovals.
I'll add these: 2 TNT races - Greenwood & Creek County. CC is about a fifth-mile and got rained on before hot laps....which gave us a super-tacky little bullring that made for a great race. Bacon gets Ballou late for the win. Sun Prairie midgets - Levi rolls by Hines and Darland on the cushion for the win on a late restart. But the best race I saw all year was that midget race at the Four Crown. The heavyweight battle between Yeley and Darland was great. You can just see by watching how bad they wanted it. So it was a great race even before Stenhouse decided to spoil their fun by running in true Eldora style - he never left the wall and blasted right by those two. Then he checked out. Even after Kuhn broke in front of him and he went to the tail, Stenhouse was putting on a show, right up to the point when he clipped the backstretch wall and flipped about as hard as I've ever seen into turn three. It was like Stenhouse crammed all the reasons I love to watch him race into one night....what an unbelievable show! |

I've got to give one vote to the MSCS opener at Terre Haute...the battle between Hockett and Ballou in the A main for the last 5-6 laps was great!!

Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
Sprint cars
1 Hulman Classic. To much to watch at times. All night was great, heats,B main, A main. 2 Hunter from the back at Kokomo 3 Clayton from the back at Creek County for 3rd. Midgets 1 First POWRi race at Little Belleville. On the same weekend as all the flooding here in Indiana,it took me about 5 1/2 hours to get there, with some phone updates from Morty along the way. Glad I made it there, cause the racing was unreal in the feature. It got about 4 laps in,then 1/2 the field was sliding the other half in one end of the track, and then getting slid back in the other end of the track! This went on all feature long, and much like the Hulman, even though Little Belleville is just a dinky little track, there was to much to watch all at once. 2 POWRi midgets at Macon. This one Dean Mills captured on video, and what were ther, like 23 sliders he counted for the lead?? Another fun night. 3 4 crown midgets. More sliders galore for the lead. |
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
1. USAC at Salem! I am slightly biased though…
2. DuQuoin Silver Crown 3. Any race at THAT with the new promoters |

Re: The best race you saw in 2008?

|
Re: The best race you saw in 2008?
The 4 Crown Race at Eldora was it, It might have been the best Midget race I have ever seen. J.J and Double D Put on one hell of a show, and Stenthouse would have been in the mix to but he was going checkers or wreckers and all that was there seen that wreck, unreal he didnt get hurt bad. The best race and the most spectacular crash all in one. Im telling you this race was hands down the BEST!:thumb:thumb
