I watch Johnny as a little kid at Paragon and now at almost 40 years old am amazed I am racing against him. This is a man that just enjoys doing what he does and is one of the nicest guys to talk with. Short story, I ask him the first time I met him in the pits how long he had been racing at paragon? His response was I was standing up on the hill when they cut the track in, so yes this man deserve to be there. Not many people will get into a sprint car and to do it as long and he has is great. :thumb

I have watched this gentleman since 1958, started driving sprint cars myself in 1965,Johnny was always a perfect racer he never banged wheels with to many if he did my back was turned. I also think he would be a GREAT LIFETIME HOOSIER for the Hall of fame. Thank You Butch Wilkerson

I don't know if he still does this, but he has been hauling to Volusia Co in Florida in February, bolting on a wing, and running with the All-Stars

I think he went in 2008. I guess it remains to be seen for 2009.

A year or two ago I was standing in the pits at East Bay during the Winternationals talking to a representative of one of the racing-related web sites when an old pickup truck drove by pulling an open hauler with a sprint car. He looked at me in surprise and asked if someone was going to race the car. I told him yes. He then asked who the driver was. I told him that the pickup driver was also the sprint car driver. A long period of silence followed. I assured him I wasn't pulling his leg. Of course, it was Johnny. Later, the same guy spoke with Johnny. Among other things, he asked him if he was going to go over to Volusia. Johnny's said he hadn't decided yet, Volusia was next week. He added that, at his age, he didn't even buy green bananas.

Johnny is a great guy. Thanks to Keith for starting this thread.

I agree as well. Also, keeping with my thoughts of Paragon... Mike Johnson is one of the most under rated drivers of his time. He raced and beat the best throughout his career and yet he is still not in the Hall of Fame. Not only was he a great shoe, but also a great flagman and not to mention he and his wife Sue owned Paragon Speedway and I believe were the ones who sold it to Keith.

Keith, thanks for bring this to everyone's attention and also for keeping the Johnson Memorial race on your schedule.

Old past former Paragon Champ of way back in '95. For you young'ins, this was the year that roll cage padding came into vogue and you had your choice of color!
