O/T BrentT Funk Surgery Update
 

I asked Brents wife Asha if I could post her updte on Brent's Surgery on Friday,and she said Yes. She posted last night and just put an update at 4PM today.

Brent Update: He had his surgery Friday at 1pm. His urethra has collapsed again and is being blocked by scar tissue. He will need to have an urethoplasty. Two hours after surgery we were back in ER because catheter was clogged. Got up this morning and he has chills and 104 fever. Have been in ER since noon today. They are waiting for his room to be available. They got his fever down but now it is climbing back up and his kidneys are not functioning properly. Continued prayers and good vibes much appreciated.

7pm. In patient room. Fever has broken. Keeping him overnight. Thank you💕

It is 11pm. You have no idea what your support means to us! Thank you!!

Sunday: Still going back and forth with high fever and chills. They can’t figure out the source of the infection

Sunday 4pm: Brent will be in the hospital for a few days. Kidneys not working properly and fever from infection

I’ve been privileged to be friends with Brent for quite some time thanks to Merrillville Al. We’re all privileged to have his insight on this board. I don’t always agree with him, but his knowledge and passion are among the best on IOW. Brent, we’re praying for ya, and we’re trying to keep Al entertained while you’re recovering. Can't remember exactly how Brent, Asha, and I became friends think it was at a Frolic party years ago. We've always kept in touch even during the offseason and we live 400 miles from each other. He's a tough old bird and will fight this off.

Sometimes he will text me and tell me what he is about to post on here and it will rile up the masses. LOL we have fun with that.

Latest update from Asha today.....

Brent update: Surgery for tube in his bladder successful! His kidneys are returning to normal function. He is in pain from the four inch incision. It’s comparable to a woman having a c-section. He will probably be in the hospital a few more days to monitor his kidneys. He will have a 4 to 6 week recovery and then we will go to IU Med in Indy for what is hopefully the final surgery. Thank you to everyone! He sure misses being at the track

Glad to hear the operation went well and you are doing better. Asha, thanks for the updates and keeping us informed and taking good care of the big guy. Thank you everyone!!! Yes I am home, very sore, and am far from 100%. With all that said, I really don't feel too bad. I need to rehab for 4 to 6 weeks before doing the next surgery in Indy. This all started On February 9. Since that time, I have had 4 surgeries, countless Dr Appointments, and endless trips to the bathroom. Thanks for everyones thoughts and prayers. It truly means a lot.

Not sure if Australia has chimed in yet Brent, but just in case, here’s wishing you the best. We feel like you must do at the moment. Sick, sore and sorry that we can’t be in the USA as race fans right now.

Our country, along with New Zealand, has handled the pandemic better than most across the world. Very few COVID cases, and to ensure it stays that way, the government have stopped international travel, thus keeping the virus at bay.

And that has meant we can’t get to see all our friends in America at the dozens of race tracks we travel to each northern summer. There’s nothing better than catching up with you across Indiana and I trust that we will be able to do so again very soon.

Get well quickly Brent because when the gates open again downunder, we’ll be back to say hi ....
