Your First Racing T-Shirt?
I think mine was Jan Opperman's U.S.C.R.Y. (UNITED STATES CHRISTIAN RACING YOUTH?) T-shirt. The year? early 70-ish. Again, I can't really trust my memory on any of this, but that's the best I can remember.
Do you remember yours? I hope you remember better than can I. |
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
Bubby Jones I was probably 7 or 8 years old.

I also had a powder blue T-shirt years ago with a picture of a Cosworth midget engine on both sides and C-O-S-W-O-R-T-H spelled out in big letters. I wore it to Eldora to a race and a guy tried to buy the darn shirt right off my back! He offered me as I recall up to $20 when I actually paid about $7 or $8 for it. I did not sell it to him. |
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
Some of my earliest shirts where:
-Bettenhausen Evil Knievel Indy Car -FT.Wayne Indoor Midget Event (80) -Terre Wente Skoal Midget -One that had a girl in a bikini and midget on it and a slogan that said:"If you can't race it or take it to bed; it ain't worth havin'" I've never been a big racing T-Shirt guy, but I have had a few. |
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?

Ferkel's placement in the pic is interesting. The big 0 on the wing makes it almost looks like he has a halo. |
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
A Dave Darland #36d - Beachy Engines/Earlywine Racing shirt when I was five years old.
I can't seem to fit into a youth small anymore. I'll try to eat more salad so I can wear it to the track next year. :wink |
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
I'm sure mine was a 1982 Oxford 250 shirt. Surely I still have it. That was way before I started watching sprintcars.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
Mine was a Ventura Raceway tee shirt with two TQ's on it. I was 4 years old. Three Quarter Midget Racing was huge in the '80's at Ventura.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
I bought both of my first racing shirts on the same weekend and they are on the bottom of a dresser full of t-shirts that have.....shrunk in size over the years :rolling
A Sammy Swindell Old Milwaukee shirt and a Lloyd K Stephens Ofixco Special shirt with Ronnie Shuman. My first USAC shirt and I still have it is a Roy Caruthers shirt (aka "Pizza Man" if your reading Roy Boy..inside joke) from the 5c Crucean years I believe 1991 or so. |

You and I probably have that in common. |
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
My was a DeWayne Barker, Barker Auto Sales 33B shirt. Probably '84 or '85. He was local driver that ran Warsaw Speedway. It was him, Denny England, Bimbo Atkins, and Tony Elliott that always seem to battle for the championship. I can still remember what it looked like even though it is long gone.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
My first says tri-state speedway with sprint car on the front and has a late model on the back with all the top ten drivers names around it. Cool to look at to this day. I also have a Kendall Oil jacket from the early late 60's early 70's that my dad received for winning a feature. (probably Haubstadt also) The names are all there.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
Living in wing country, mine was probably a Bobby Allen shirt. But I know for sure, my first non-wing shirt was Tray House:respect:.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
Anyone remember the shirts from the late 70s/early 80s that had colored sleeves and "Sprint Car Drivers Slide It In Farther" on the front?
My mom had one. How about the "***** Happens" shirts with the upside down sprint car/stock car and the duck on them? |
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
"It was Sprint Car drivers Drive it in Deeper"....LOL then you had the "If you can't race it or take it to bed it ain't worth having" lol. I just found my Ron Shuman ofixco Spl. shirt in a box. The first was a Manzy shirt or a Gary Stanton Shirt. I have that car as a tattoo on my upper right arm.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
Lynn Paxton / Boops Aluminum shirt from 1976 or 1977 had one that was blue with blue lettering and one that was white with blue lettering. Have them both in a box stored away along with my Smokey Snellbaker / Lloyds #56 shirts of which I have several.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
The first one I'm sure was just a normal UMRA shirt, but the first ones I remember having were Rich Vogler's Wilke Pak Midget shirt, an Ascot Park shirt, and a Jack Hewitt winged shirt - with the slogan "Dew it, Hewitt" on it. I'm guessing the years were around 1988.

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
My first racing shirt had to be an old Riverside Park one.....I reminded of it every day I drive by the Six Flags Theme Park that has replaced it......

Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
World of Outlaws shirt 1978 at Lawrenceburg. Best part is that I still have it!
|
Re: Your First Racing T-Shirt?
My first one was from the two-day April 1987 All Star Circuit of Champions Late Model race at Tri City. Which is kind of ironic, since it was about the farthest thing from T-shirt weather you could possibly imagine. Even with Carharts on, that's the coldest I've ever been at the races.
