2021 Transponders
Can someone please post a little info into the MANDATORY Transponders we are being forced to buy to run Bloomington, Paragon, and Lincoln Park Speedway?
Here are a few questions I’ve been asked on this subject... Are we buying these to keep? Do they come with a charger? Is the $169 for a one year subscription? Will this be a fee every year in the future? Who covers cost of damages? What happens if it dies during race night? If the transponder becomes faulty, who replaces it? What happens with lost transponders during a crash/race? Thanks in advance |
Re: 2021 Transponders
Any track I have dealt with where you have to buy a transponder, the transponder is yours. It is up to you to make sure it is in working order, just like a raceceiver would be. They did say they will have a few to rent for each night. Even if you do rent one, if you damage it or lose it, you are still responsible to replace it.
The part I do not understand, they say to mount it on the right rear axle tube. Might be OK on a late model, not so much on a sprint, lol. |
Re: 2021 Transponders
I believe this is the transponder they are requiring:
https://speedhiveshop.mylaps.com/tr2...onder-car.htmlFYI we use the yellow Westhold transponders at Lawrenceburg and the MyLaps transponder is not compatible with our system. |
Lawrenceburg doesn’t charge for transponders correct?

again you think tracks would work together, and get the same transponders so they work at all tracks , and tracks that we have ran transponder, if it's properly attached, and they get damaged , it's theirs, not if it's true or not but was told by a promotor they can have them insured for that reason , racers cannot ,

At brownstown they charge you $5 and hold your driver's license when you rent one. You get your license and payout when you return transponder. I don't recall any registration fees either. Guys like me will not spend an extra $170 to go run his tracks on brownstown's off weekends. Spending more money and racing for less winnings. I don't see how this helps the local racer.

Greeds a powerful thing.

I still have mine, from my tq days, we had a gentleman who wanted them used and he was financially able to buy them, and let us make payments on them. They claim that location is the least likely to get damage in a crash, Lord knows we had plenty of them.

Most all tracks I’ve been to use the westhold like lawrenceburg and brownstown as well as north Vernon do. Wonder if they were having issues getting them returned at end of night or did the tracks mentioned earlier not use transponders before? It would be nice if everyone used the same one. Most of the RC tracks make you buy your own as well, I quit doing the rc car thing I think he winter years ago but they were 100 back then.

Re: 2021 Transponders
So, this thread seems really dated. We have several tracks in our area that have been using transponders for years. There are a couple of them that have them synced to their scoreboards. Most drivers appreciated not worrying about the human scorers making a mistake. It also has greatly reduced the argument over line up spots. The drivers accept that they will get the spot that they had at the last lap. No more waiting 5 minutes to get the line up down form the tower and no more waiting 5 minutes for everyone to agree to their spot.

Absolutely makes life better all around. Like mr McClure I remember having to buy one for the tq midgets back in the day. I’ve considered buying one for my sons car just we don’t have to mess with getting one weekly. As long as someone remembers to pull it off the car and charge it weekly. Sucks that some tracks are using different brands that won’t interchange, that’s a place where it seems a bit of communication might’ve beneficial.

It'd be nice if tracks would go to 1 type of transponder. We've been to several tracks that use Westholds, then others use Mylaps, another track uses a different transponder, which is why I will always rent one. I don't think anything is wrong with Transponders, but having to buy several different ones seems a little bad. Now though. A lot of tracks have the transponder systems and some other transponders won't work with other systems. So there's not you can really do about it.
I'm surprised they don't get damaged on the rear of the car. We was always told to put them on the bottom of the RR Torsion Rack. I thought they'd be safer on the Rear down tube, but might be to far off the ground. For the extent of a flip this was, I was very surprised to see the Transponder be A ok. You can see the orange pouch on the torsion rack. |
