I was surprised Belle-Clair was not on the midget schedule. What's up with that?

I"m shocked no Little Belleville. Its been years ago was turned on to this track, and if midgets were running there, I was there. I even missed Haubstadt a couple of times to see midgets run that bull ring. Wonder whats the deal? :14:

Not looking good for lil Belleville

I asked the same question today to someone who’s been closely associated with belle-Claire for decades. His response-
the track needs tons of upgrading. fair board wont do it. promoter wont either. so it sits. degrading farther.

Just talked with a buddy who lives close to Little Belleville and he say basically same thing Chris said that since there was no racing there that there was no track care. Buddy said track is all rutted from rain and needs a lot of TLC. Sure hope it don"t close cuz it be such a shame!! :(:(

That would be the loss of a midget racing institution. What a shame if true.

Yep, saw my first ever POWRi Midget race there & it was great.... thanks to BrentTFunk for telling me about it. 600s were fun too. Neat old time covered grandstands....

I went there many a Friday night when I was in grade school. Clearly remember Dandy Don Klein, pits in the infield, standing starts, and the big one in turn one which ended the standing starts. It seems like there were always cars in the infield being welded on.

Perfect bullring for midgets... wasn't it designed specifically for them?

Don't forget the beer man on the front stretch selling beer to us 15 year olds. Good times. Jim Thompson was my driver but seemed to always get cheated somehow.

My Dad grew up near by. He gathered crawfish there b4 the track was built. He also sold programs for admission at the track. Yes it was designed for midgets. I remember some really big names in racing. Before cages and fat ass tires.

Besides Little Belleville and Mighty Macon being built specifically for midgets, the original short track at Fairbury, Illinois was also built with midgets being the primary genre. The reason I say "original short track" is because there is/was a 1/2 mile horse track on the Fairbury Fairgrounds that was used fairly extensively for auto racing prior to WW II and the original short track, the aforementioned track that was built for the midgets shortly after WW II, was completely reconfigured sometime back in the 1990's to better accommodate the late models and modified's.

IMHO Mighty Macon is the best outdoor midget track in the Midwest. Little Belleville is generally just as good on any given evening. It would be a huge loss if Little Belleville is allowed to founder and disappear!

Jacksonville should be included in that conversation!

All 3 of Little Belleville Macon and Jacksonville are great midget tracks. Jacksonville is definitely in the conversation for best track imo.

There are a lot of 1/4 or 1/5 mile tracks that were originally built for midgets. Most of them have been widened or reconfigured to better accommodate stock cars and quite a few no longer exist.
