Tony Kanaan

At a time when some Indy car drivers are staying away from oval racing, here's T.K. stepping in for the challenge. He's always been brave, but more interesting is at his age when he is semi retired, he STILL wants to do ovals. Every bit a badass in my book!!!!

INDYCAR, is getting sadder than C.A.R.T. used to be unfortunately!! 4 Total Oval Races at 3 Different Tracks, because Texas is a Doubleheader!! 😥😤
Come on Roger Penske!!

TK is a badass as far as I'm concerned, I'd love to see him in a midget.

Tree City,

Don't blame it on Roger. Besides Indy and Texas, what ovals get enough attendance to pay an Indy car race purse? Can't blame the promoters. Who's gonna take a loss booking a date. Blame in on the fans who don't go.

Indy, Springfield, Du Quoin, Sacramento, etc. Those are are all nice ovals :31:

Oval fans don’t go because they hate rear engine cars and don’t give a **** about any of those drivers. It’s just not a series most oval fans care about anymore.

treecitytornado 11/26/20 7:07 PM

They've had Rear Engine cars for over 40 Years now! I do agree, besides Ed Carpenter, when he runs & a few other American Drivers, nobody cares. I miss the early I.R.L. DAYS!! ALL OVALS & USAC Guys were getting a shot again! I realize Clauson in the 500 & a couple others in the Freedom 100 have got a shot in the last several years. USAC Guys still haven't got their shot, they deserve, since the early I.R.L. days. Hope to see, Kody Swanson, at IMS! He is getting a shot in Taxi Cabs, which is fine, but the 500 is still a big deal!
Remember, "The Road to Indy," Program? Tony George, cared about Sprint, Midget, & Champ Dirt Car Drivers!! Roger Penske, could care less!! 😡
He proved that when he fired Gary Bettenhausen!! JMO.

treecitytornado 11/26/20 7:18 PM

Grocery Guy, I understand, but like Kentucky Speedway put on great races with great crowds, but guess what, NO MORE RACES!! ** THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS, the International Speedway Corporation, that owns most of the tracks!!!

Lots of drivers have been fired without the owner being accused of "not Caring" about the racing background they came from... And contrary of popular belief, well in the IoW world anyway, a person can love sprint cars and midgets AND marvel at the modern IndyCar driver. I learned long ago that a badass driver is a badass driver, even if he never ran Kokomo or Salem... If you don't get Scott Dixon's greatness well, you just aren't paying attention. Same with a number of those guys...

treecitytornado 11/27/20 4:09 AM

Puppy, I think you totally misunderstood my post! I'm talking strictly about caring about the talent of Sprint Car, Midget, & Champ Dirt Car Drivers, like Tony George did!! That's my background as a FAN & a RACER.
** I NEVER SAID THAT GUYS LIKE Dixon, Helio, Kanaan, etc., don't have an enormous amount of talent!! I said, unlike Tony George, Roger Penske, is making No efforts for the Sprint, Midget, & Champ Dirt Car Drivers!! It's obvious by the schedule at 75% Road & Street Courses. He has the resources & connections, but chooses to do Nothing. 😉

The great days of dirt cars on mile dirt always produced a great Championship year. I remember
Ruby running the rear engine
car on a few dirt tracks.
Those days the foreign drivers ran the Indy 500 and went home. A few stayed for Milwaukee mile.
Took the dirt cars out of points and foreign drivers stayed.
Any body know how this Happened?

Hey if nascar is going to do it, maybe indycar will be next......doubt it but we can dream.

SpfldMile 11/27/20 12:50 PM

Gateway had some good races with very respectable crowds.

captrat 11/27/20 9:29 PM

It really is pretty simple. The Speedway fell in love with rear engine cars and the European mystique. Before I get flamed I understand it was a natural development for pavement racing. The problem is the powers that be decided that dirt racing was not deserving of inclusion primarily because the owners were now predominantly from a road racing background. Isn't it ironic that the most increasingly popular styles of motorsports are on dirt. What goes around comes around.
