Osky Tonight

Any cars or fans heading to Okaloosa tonight for the WAR Ultimate Challenge?
4,000 to win.

oppweld 8/9/20 8:11 PM

4,000 to win and nobody shows? Don't ***** about purses!

oppweld 8/9/20 9:01 PM

17 cars nothing else good I could say except there are 5-6 cars running for nothing at Paragon who could win this!

Re: Osky Tonight

seems a lot of teams are determined not to run WAR races

I expected the Midwest Wingless Boycotting, but there has been a few cars from Indiana supporting WAR races.
You don't get many chances to pick up 4k without USAC competition!

I think you"d spend a lot of that 4 grand on fuel getting there and home plus motel, food all the normel stuff. Make it to Paragon and home on a tank of gas and no over night bill :D

You are correct. Add in taking off work on Monday oh yeah and throw in a couple blown trailer tires traveling that far which isn’t uncommon.

We made the trip from Indy. Took two cars (one of the two came over from Ohio). We didn’t really consider who would show up or not. Terry McCarl goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. He stopped by several times to thank us for coming. The race (still) has an event atmosphere to it. We raced at Lawrenceburg the night before, then night rode over to Iowa. We enjoyed the trip. And yes, we took Monday off work.

Thanks for coming, numbers may have been low but the action was great. I fear the non wings could go away again at Osky if the numbers dwindle.

Car count was disappointing but expected with the boycott going on. I think they’ll get it straightened out next year. The finishes of both features were awesome and McCarl loves the non-wing cars so I think they’ll be back. With the car count ASCS had it’s probably a good thing the non-wing count was light or it would have gone past 1am. They really dragged it out with all the cushion packing that prove useless. The track prep was A+ in my book. That was the most watered down track I’ve seen in a long time and made for great, dustless racing.

What Boycott are you referring to?
The Current MWRA Point Leader Won the Event. The current Driver in 5th place MWRA points ran 3rd. Nobody that races MWRA is a full time Racer. They all have Jobs or Businesses to be at on Monday Morning. Sometimes tough choices have to be made. There’s no Boycott going on. Some guys just can’t do the traveling.

oppweld 8/11/20 8:17 PM

May not be an "Official Boycott" but the numbers don't lie,Head to Head MWRA have outdrawn WAR every time. There is room for both to coexist. WAR could focus next year I more Iowa Illinois races and their car count would go up Irregardless of MWRA schedule!

What you really need to look at is the start money at these shows where traveling is required. 300 wasn't bad and we were going to race it when there was an Iowa Sprint League race piggybacking on it but that got cancelled after the date changed. Not worth taking time off work, transportation costs, etc for a one off show. Hopefully they try it again next year and there can be another race or 2 scheduled around it to entice more teams to make the haul.
