Chase Stockton

Hit the nail on the head!"screwed over by a BS caution." Actually two of them.

throb 7/29/20 10:17 PM

The last one didn’t make a lot of sense...as the stopped car was off two and would have been encountered well after the checkered fell. The first one they had to throw since a car was driving backward into oncoming traffic...in one of the dumbest moves I’ve ever seen...

Yea, I'm sure USAC officials know the rules better than I do, but he pretty much got screwed. I don't think whatever caused the yellows (couldn't see it on Flo) affected the 3 cars in the lead. If it was up to me, Stockon would have been declared the winner first time around.
But its not up to me, rules are rules....:11:

I get going back to the last scored lap. However didnt they just run a 32 lap race? why wasnt the green and white thrown
at the same time?

otispoole 7/29/20 10:35 PM

That is twice, Gas City and tonight....

DJlives 7/29/20 10:35 PM

It is gone over in the driver's meeting as it was tonight. The finish is going to be green, white, checkered...If yellow comes out on lap 29...same deal

dsc1600 7/30/20 12:05 AM

The first caution was the right call. The second caution was dumb, should have been a yellow/checkered flag and the race should have been over.

I feel really bad for Stockon. He won the race IMO.

Driving backwards into the leaders in the last turn of a race at Terre Haute is by far the dumbest thing I ever saw on any track. I saw somebody do it once at a drag strip, but that was a street car during practice night at Lucas Oil. This was a professional driver.

So there were three lap 29 scored and any passes that occurred during those laps counted. So there were 32 green flag laps that counted. Almost makes sense.

flagboy55 7/30/20 10:23 AM

It sucks for Chase but I would say he got screwed by circumstances and not officiating

What driver drove the wrong way after spinning out

bsmith8 7/30/20 10:38 AM

If you have facebook go on USAC FB page and watch round 4 highlights. You can see it all on there.

USAC’s rules were followed on the yellow flags and the green/white/checkered finish. That was unfortunate for Chase, who I wanted badly to see win, but the rules are clear. On the other hand if Justin gave him some front bumper going into one, as it appears, that is in my opinion, dirty racing. In sprint car racing, on a big, fast half mile like Terre Haute, that’s how you get someone hurt. Being competitive doesn’t include being reckless with the safety of other competitors. Try a legitimate slide job but miscalculate? Accidentally bang wheels while racing hard for the lead? Simply make an error being competitive? Those are racing deals. Give someone your front bumper going into a corner? Out of line.
If Grant moved him on purpose, as it looked to me, he is lucky. After watching Stockon race for many years I couldn’t see him seeking retaliation on the track, that’s not his style. All in all, it was a really good race and Bob, his crew, and the humidity had the track in great shape. Hope for the best with the weather tonight for LPS.

Doesn't that remind you of some famous racer rear ending a water truck? :-)

I was sitting near the top of section g in the grandstand and I did not see that. I will check out the USAC Facebook page. What appeared to be a rather boring feature certainly changed after the caution flags began. IMHO the Tony Hulman Classic appeared to have a larger crowd. !Apparently folks arriving after a certain time encountered a $5 parking fee. Maybe it was considered a fair because they sold fair type food!?

I think there should be an award presented to Chase Stockon in memory of Jim Hurtubise who probably had his name misspelled as many times as Chase Stockon whose last name seems to get confused with the city of Stockton in California.

At the WoO show on July 12, we had to pay the $5 parking fee and we were given a yellow card that said “The parking fees are collected raise funds to make improvements to the Terre Haute Action Track to. Improve the racing experience”. If this is in fact true, then I have no problem with it. If it is lining someone’s pockets, I do.

I was under the impression that the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds owned the property the track sat on and the Fair Board managed it. I am almost sure that was the case years ago when my wife and I were in Terre Haute. That arrangement may have changed however.

I was sitting down by turn four in the uncovered bleachers. Grant 100% drove underneath Chase coming out of 4 but I don’t know how long it stayed that way down the front stretch. I looked over to my father and said “Grant had his entire front bumper under Chase’s tail tank there”. He agreed.

I didn’t get there until the start of the heat races and no one was out collecting parking fees.

Maybe they will put the parking money towards improving the PA system. My first trip there in a few years and PA system was as bad as the last time I was there

Could not make out much of anything they were saying over towards turn 1 in the main grandstand.
