Double file restarts
Long overdue in open wheel racing?
|
Re: Double file restarts
No, it's not. Sprint cars do not need the manufactured drama of other forms of racing.

You can definitely make argument non-wing doesn't need it like wing does because non-wing cars can naturally run and race closer which means better chance of passing. I'm fine with USAC being single file now that they got rid of lapped cars in the middle of the leaders and field. Been good action. First 3 nights of sprint week. |
Re: Double file restarts
The only double file restart I agree with is the Delaware double file restart. Leader alone on front row, 2nd and 3rd second row and so on. I believe that is only fair way.

Re: Double file restarts
why should someone be rewarded and someone penalized because someone else messed up
|
Re: Double file restarts
I don"t think any non wing sprint or midget group need double file restarts. I think it would tear up a lot of cars, remember we have OPEN wheels unlike those tin tops. :D

Re: Double file restarts
i agree with okie but its all about the show and people in the stands.i like the delaware starts.cg

Save double file for NASCAR. Should not be allowed in our sport. Can’t stand it in the World of Outlaws. And even they must think it’s a joke because they don’t do it with 5 laps left. Everyone wants to see Jacob Allen win a WOO feature. I say if it weren’t for that stupid gimmick he already would have. I can’t remember the exact scenario but that’s what I was thinking on a couple occasions last year. Complete novelty. Get rid of it!

Re: Double file restarts
I would love to see double file restarts and lapped cars to the tail.

Re: Double file restarts
JMO but heck no.

Re: Double file restarts
Love double file restarts. Being good at starts and restarts is part of the game. Nothing worse than getting a good launch off 4 and dragging the brakes all the way to the cone because the car in front waited until the leaders were in turn 2 to take off.

Re: Double file restarts
at many tracks the row you are in can be a huge penalty or huge advantage. You see a lot of cars go to the back and make it back toward the front in traditional sprints and midgets. The cars in the back have options that give them passing opportunities they wouldn't have if they were trapped to one line or the other for several laps until it gets sorted out. Other types of cars can't dart and maneuver like traditional sprints or midgets can so it works better. We are watching probably the most competitive racing in the country with traditional open wheel, why screw it up?

You just threw a couple of death sliders at the car in front of you. They didn't quite work out. Finally after 3 laps the pressure causes him to bobble and you get by. The caution comes out and that car lines up right next to you. HUH!!!
THIS AIN'T PONY STOCKS.... |

Terrible idea!

Re: Double file restarts
Don't be like NASCAR and fix something that isn't broke. That is how you lose fans. Single file restarts is the only way to go. All double file restarts do is tear up equipment and create smaller car counts because people can't afford to keep fixing their stuff.

Here I am running 5th and the guy in 10th spins, so I restart right beside the guy in 6th now who I just passed two laps ago. Now on the restart the guy in third has his motor stumble and I am caught behind him and before I know it I have lost 3 or 4 positions because of none of my own mistakes. I love sprint car racing and have for 50 years now, sometimes the race for the lead just isn't going to be a nailbiter and that's okay by me. I will watch the race for fifth or tenth or where ever it is. I don't like the idea of making changes just for the sake of change, soon enough you look around and can't even recognize the sport you love. |
Re: Double file restarts
nascar has double file restarts.........stupid is, as stupid does.

Re: Double file restarts
The leader already has an advantage, he picks his lane on the restart, and picks his line on the track. People complain about front row winners, why make it any easier. If a guy gets a lousy draw and is stuck in the back, why make it harder for him to come forward. Like I said earlier, cones ruin plenty of races. If the guy in third is on a mission, and loses 7 car lengths because the guy in 2nd spun his tires, well, his race got ruined. On a double file, once the leader goes it's game on, so if the guy in front of you spins his tires, just drive on by and keep racing. The only thing I hate more than single file is the damn Delaware re-start.

Re: Double file restarts
Mechanic-"How was the car?"
Driver- " Oh the car was bad and I'm not that good either but I jumped every restart and got a top five anyway." Mechanic- " Cool, that's what racing is supposed to be!" |
