Sprint Car End of Year Awards

I am interested to hear what everyone might have to say about this. Please, pick only one person per category, but don't be afraid to add your reasoning behind that choice. Remember, this is for sprint cars only, so keep midget and winged sprint car accomplishments out of the equation. Thanks!

Wild Card Award for outstanding/exciting performances: Hunter at the Memorial Day weekend race at Haubstadt. Came from the C to third in the A. Gotta mention DC's run at the Hulman Classic. His hellacious run in the B to nip Weir at the line for the last transfer then what looked like a possible win from 17th only to nearly spinout twice and finish 4th.

Re: Sprint Car End of Year Awards

Hey guys, Chad Boat isn't a rookie!! He's been running sprint cars for a few years now. He was a rookie with USAC, but this is for sprint cars in general.
If you would like to add in a different rookie pick, feel free...

I think I would have picked Nic Faas for sprint car rookie of the year.

Re: Sprint Car End of Year Awards

Wild Card Award for outstanding/exciting performances: Dave Darland at the 4 or was it 3-Crown was almost Hewitt like (Hey, I said almost.). In a photo finish with Hunter.

Builder/Manufacturer of the Year: I wouldn't have a valid idea.

Media Member of the Year: Danny Burton in a landslide.

Team of the Year: HAR

Promoter of the Year: Dave Rudisell. I have no choice if I want to keep my Section "A" perch. "Bozo" or not, he's still the BOSS. :O:

Rookie of the Year: Logan Hupp

Rank the top fifteen (your choice! haha) sprint car drivers of the year.

Jerry Coons, Jr.
Dave Darland
Hunter Scheurenberg
Brady Short
Jeff Bland, Jr.

Brady Bacon
Shane Cottle
Tracy Hines
Cole Whitt
Chris Windom

Jon Stanbrough
Levi Jones
Darren Hagen
Brad Sweet
Brett Burdette

My picks based entirely upon racing I have witnessed, which maybe unfairlry leaves outs Tony Jones, Mike Spencer, Nic Faas, and others. I hope they won't be heartbroken. :wink:checkered:

Re: Sprint Car End of Year Awards

The only one I can really say is for promoter and that would be DHK because they saved the Action Track. DHK is actually changing names since Chris Novetney came on board.

Re: Sprint Car End of Year Awards

Builder MFG: JD Performance Engines(Best kept secret in the Nation)
Media: Eckert/KO (they should start their own mag, puts everyone else to shame)
Team: Cole Whitt and Lil' Rim(alone they beat the best) gets GLM points too(good looking Mom)
Promoter: O'Conners (Kokomo has no BS, same rules for everyone, good, fast, safe racing everyweek. Just wish they would let us run MC-2's/SD-44's as well as Hoosier DT-3's!)
Rookie: Too many to keep track of. I thought the economy was bad? CHAD BOAT gets my vote, Cool kid, cool Dad, doing it alone. They get hauler points and GLM points, (GLM= good looking Mom!) Might ned to learn more throttle control but he's a smart kid, he'll get it.
Top 15: DD, JRS, Coondog, Whitt, Hunter, Cottle, Billy P, Sweet, Short, Bland, Bacon, Windom, Tony Jones, Hagen, Swindell, Hockett

I'll add one category. Most exciting single race performance. I saw a lot of them, but my vote goes to Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. in the 4 Crown Midget feature. That was just crazy, there.:applaud:

I'd have to vote for Dave and J.J trading slide jobs during the midget race. Those 2 were THE show to me. :thumb
However Ricky was flat :censor: flying! :Steer

That was on my short list, too. The first 15 laps or so of that race was some of the best Midget racing I've ever seen. Two future Hall of Famers, going at it tooth and nail, racing each other clean, for that many laps, is hard to top. I was just really blown away by the way Ricky caught and just flat checked out on both of those guys. And then after the yellow, how he nearly ran the table again, from the back. With a car that obviously had sustained some front end damage, on the incident that brought out the yellow. That guy attacks Eldora like Daron Clayton attacks Haubstadt. Regardless, I already had my money's worth by about lap 5 of the Midget feature.

a couple of VERY exciting races involving Hockett....take your pick with either Eldora race (how about the first time: 2 wreckers strapped to each downtube and pulling apart to get the motor out....barely made the show and finished 5th! from last, with a 360!)

How about Hockett and Ballou at T.H.A.T., now THAT was some racing!
