Would you go?
Let’s say that the state government said that starting this Friday, they would open up with no restrictions. The racing schedule immediately goes back to it’s original plan and we’ve got the Allstars at Gas City and Kokomo, along with every other race track starting their regular shows. Would you go and a brief thought behind your answer?

Re: Would you go?
Yes.
I went to Walmart last weekend and probably was exposed to more people than I would be at the track. This virus is either so bad that EVERYTHING should be shut down or it isn't. Apparently, it just isn't. Drive past any Menards, Lowes, Walmart on a Saturday morningand tell me how the crowds are fine there, but not at the small local shops and stores that have far fewer customers. It's an absolute joke and I'm sick of the government trying to tell me how to live my life, especially when there is no sense to what is actually taking place. |
Re: Would you go?
Yes I would go..Racing is a visceral experience that can never replicated by video game...I want to see, hear and smell all the action!
|
Re: Would you go?
No, I wouldn't. I am going to sit out for awhile until we see what happens over the Summer across the country. But I think I am writing 2020 off.
I know there are a lot of people willing to, and needing to do so with respect to getting back to a society that we were four months ago, and I hate to say it, but they are winding up in a guinea pig role as I see it. I hope they all come through fine, of course, but it is a risk I am not willing to take just right now. Hope all is well out the Gary way, '55. We are doing just fine. One is going a little stir crazy, but fine. :) |
Re: Would you go?
I will go as soon as the track opens. Tail gating watching the races, the whole nine yards. Enough is enough!
|
No. Not yet. I'm in a risk group and routinely interact with healthcare professionals and researchers

I did go to a cruise in on Saturday night, and there were more cars and people than I have ever seen there. I did take note there were lots of older people missing. They are the ones that own older muscle cars and the like. Quite a few in my age group ( late 50’s) and quite a few in younger age groups. Lots of newer cars, Mustangs, Challengers, Camaros etc. I didn’t mind going there, as I could keep distanced for the most part. I have hand sanitizer in my old truck and gloves, more for refueling than anything else. I’m also an essential employee working alone now mostly for social distancing, and I have all the above in my work truck too. |
Anyone who answers "No" to this question needs to turn off the TV and turn on the critical thinking.

Re: Would you go?
Yes, in a heart beat. I am in the "high risk group" (by a lot!). I think that the original deal was very serious. And too little was done too late. And nothing can change that now. But after 6 weeks in "isolation"; I am good. I will use hand sanitizer more frequently now, just because. Life is good. But we have all been "in detention" WAY TOO LONG. It looks like big cities might still have some lingering problems. But most race tracks are in at the middle nowhere. So I am fully ready to get a haircut, get back to living life like it was last January (another great time at the chili Bowl - and no I didn't get the flu- but it did use hand sanitizer). I want to continue to enjoy all the pleasures of life for as long as I can. And can't wait to get back to spending time with my friends at the races. Stay well fellow open wheelers. See you at the track.

Re: Would you go?
Went to Scotland County speedway in MO. saturday. They only sold 350 tickets so I bought a pit pass. Kept my distance from most people. But there were times you were moving around you couldn't keep the 6 feet apart. Promoter was nice enough to open the infield. I watched from there only two of took advantage of that. But I would of sat in the grandstand had i been able two.

Re: Would you go?
Absolutely yes. As it stands right now the state of Missouri is setting the example, it appears. I'm with Andrew S. to some level, about burn out. We still check the weather religiously and had planned on going this weekend to Lake Ozark speedway but I think mother nature will win this one. I agree with Mr. Short and pray we haven't been used as pawns for the feds to bail us out here in Illinois.

Re: Would you go?
My answer is yes, in a heartbeat. I ultimately respect each individuals decision that they make for themselves and I wouldn't judge or argue with them if they think it's best not to go for themselves but I would expect the same respect in return.
I have already thought about the issue of another state opening things up and not Ohio and figuring I would get to see some new tracks on my road trips. |
I would go. Though i’ve not worn one to date, I bought a neckerchief style mask yesterday as a precaution in case it becomes a mandate to open sporting venues- even outdoor ones. I am high risk w/ lifelong asthma but it never stopped me from playing sports including dirt karting nor did it stop me from playing drums in bars and clubs for 20+ years before the smoke ban. Per usual i’ll have an inhaler in my pocket and one more in my car but this thing will not stop me from watching the sport i love the most, wing or no wing!

Re: Would you go?
Well, I went to Pevely Saturday night (700 tix sold). We were spread out. Seated every other row & taped off 6 feet apart. Some were sitting together but those were folks that traveled together. For instance my son & I went so we sat next to each other but there was several feet empty on all sides of us.
And I have 3 tix for the outlaws on the 23rd so yes I would go! |
Re: Would you go?
Yes! I just bought a ticket to the May 22nd I-55 WoO show. Four hour ride.....can't wait. I've been working through all this and have done everything I can do to remain clean. Can't live in fear the rest of my life.

If I had a reason to go, I would, but I would wear a mask. Not to protect me but to do my best NOT to infect someone else. This is a very informative article that explains the how's and why's. About 1/2 way the author writes the following: Importantly, of the countries performing contact tracing properly, only a single outbreak has been reported from an outdoor environment (less than 0.3% of traced infections). (ref) Further on down he continues: If I am outside, and I walk past someone, remember it is “dose and time” needed for infection. You would have to be in their airstream for 5+ minutes for a chance of infection. While joggers may be releasing more virus due to deep breathing, remember the exposure time is also less due to their speed. Wear a mask and Let's go racin'!! |
Re: Would you go?
While only in my 30's, dad is in his 60's and I think we will wait until July or so to hit up a race. Even then, it would probably be to a place that we can spread out little such Angell Park or Terre Haute for Sprint Week. Come Indy 500 time if they allow fans, we will be in our seats ready to go. Like others have stated, being indoors in a confined space has a higher probability of spreading. The rest of May will tell us a lot.

Re: Would you go?
I went to Farmington, MO Saturday night with no restrictions. There were so many people there was no way to keep six feet apart. Drank some beer and saw some old friends. Didn't bother me but if you don't feel comfortable don't go. Just don't tell me how to live my life. My odds of dying in a car crash on the hour trip there was higher than dying from Covid-19.
Now that the medical system has not been overwhelmed like we thought it's time to relax some rules. Just my opinion. The cure is now worse than the disease. So my answer would be YES I would go. |
On the issue of critical thinking etc could not one engage in critical thinking and decide no? The question wasn't about what others would do or should do it is what YOU would do. In that case it requires you to consider a range of factors including your overall health, your interest, your pocketbook. All of that. I don't live in fear. However I have a pre-existing condition and now know 5 people who got the virus three very sick for weeks..one died and had not been Ill. But this question is vitally important to promoters

Re: Would you go?
No - possibly no one else will either.
|
Yes, I should be hitting camp David in Anderson this Friday to be with my friends from around the country and seeing great racing, but I’ll now have to wait till September ! Oh hell I can’t wait that long , I can see a road trip north before September🙂

Re: Would you go?
I would probably go but with reservations. My wife and I were going to Brushcreek last week but at the last minute the judge disallowed spectators even though we would all be sitting in our cars on a hill and not allowed to exit the car. I would if going today choose a track that has lots of room to spread out and wear a mask for about a month at least. The situation at St. Francois Co. Speedway was out of control with the amount of people who showed up and promoters should limit amount of spectators for the first month. Pre-race online ticket sales and no at the gate purchases for the first month if opening today. If social limits are in effect for a state such as Missouri they should be followed or they may ruin the possibilities of other states deciding to open up race tracks. In a month my opinion would probably be different and I would be ready to go without restrictions if the statistics warrant.

Re: Would you go?
I would go! I went To Lincoln the week before the lock down. If not for the lock down I'd not have missed a single race.
|
I would go in a second and I haven’t been scared since the start of it. My job is still going good and like others said I’m not going to live life in fear! I think it’s a damn shame this country has turned into a bunch of sissy’s like half of them have turned into! More people die in car accidents then they do from this virus and we didn’t take everyone’s keys away.
|
Re: Would you go?
I went to Lincoln and the Grove also, I felt a little guilty but not for long. No one in my family has it, none of my racing buddies that were at the tracks when I was with them are sick. I'm ready to go back when they open the gates, but I would like to use cash not a card to pay my way in. I'll wear a mask or bandana if required, heck before this virus I would wear a bandana at the tracks if it was in the 30s or a super dusty surface. All good things are worth the wait.

Re: Would you go?
I think I will wait a while and see how things shake out. I noticed my enthusiasm waning last year. Maybe I am having a little burnout.

I would think methanol fumes, tire smoke, air borne dust and roaring 410 engines would have a negative effect on the coronavirus. So yeah,Im in :8:

Right now with how things stand in Michigan and at my home I will be not going. I have a member of my household that works in the medical field. So I always stand the chance that I have been exposed. Not fair for others to be near me other then people in our home. Do I think it will kill me? Nope. Do i think I will get the virus at some point? Yes.
