Re: Southern Indiana...
I am two and half hours away...

Re: Southern Indiana...
Welcome to Indiana when you get here. I am about 30 minutes from Santa Clause. I'm also curious what brings you to Indiana?
|
Re: Southern Indiana...
A nice, quiet town to live in. The only thing bad about the place is Tri-State Speedway is the only close racetrack. You'll have to do some drivin to get to most races. Welcome to the great state of Indiana. :)

Re: Southern Indiana...
I'm in jasper, just a little ways up the road...

Re: Southern Indiana...
I'm in Evansville, about 45 min from Santa Claus. Tri-State Speedway (Haubstadt) is probably the best prepped and ran dirt track in the country. Tommy Helfrich is a track preppin wizzard. Some drivers don't like it because it is lightening fast all of the time, but as far as a fan is concerned, none better...Period... You will see for yourself. Don't let any one else tell you anything different. There a couple of other po-dunct tracks around, but nothing compared to Haubstadt.
:checkered: |
Re: Southern Indiana...
Evansville, Indiana....gotta drive a bit when class is in session to catch racing for me... but born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. Welcome to the area.:checkered:
|
Re: Southern Indiana...
I'm movin because I was layed off here in Phoenix almost a month ago along with 20 thousand other people and cannot find any work. My dad who lives in Palm Beach FL owns a warehouse in Rockport IN and can put me to work there. The only reason for livin in Santa Claus is cuz he has a buddy that lives there that Ill be stayin with. So theres really nuthin to do around there??? Not even a little hole in the wall beer joint?

Re: Southern Indiana...
Drive about 2 1/2 hours west this winter to DuQuoin for some indoor midget shows...
The area you are moving to is quite beautiful. I grew up in So. Il., now live in STL |
Re: Southern Indiana...
There might be a bar.....
Some facts about Santa Clause. The town doesn't even have a stop light at hte moment. Holiday World is paying ot put one in because it is expanding. You should come sometime and meet up with me or Chuck at HW. It is a nice little park. There might be bars, but I don't know if there is or not. There is one gas station and one grocery store. They both probably close by 10pm. Holiday World is the biggest thing in that town. One million people visit that park a year this past year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Claus,_Indiana |

Re: Southern Indiana...
Just a quick superpages.com look up, there is a beer store in Santa Clause.

Re: Southern Indiana...
Sprint2,
If you like fried chicken check out The Chicken Place bar in Ireland. Just head to Jasper on 231 and take a left on 56 and go about 5 miles. Been there forever, neat as a pin and really, really good!! You are in a good spot to make pretty quick runs up to Bloomington Speedway, Brownstown and Salem and, of course, Haubstadt.Plenty of beer joints around. You won't go thirsty. Welcome to Southern Indiana. Pretty scenery around this area. |
Re: Southern Indiana...

Last year, I believe it was one Saturday night a month Jan to Mar. around $15 to get in - micros and full size midgets |
Re: Southern Indiana...
I used to live in Richland, about 15-20 minutes from Santa Claus and 5 minutes from Rockport. I absolutely loved living in Spencer County. A-K Steel was built there 10 years ago and kinda dominates the local scene.
Santa Claus is pretty quiet, but Rockport should have everything you need in a small town, including a few beer joints. Swing by Hatfield, about 5 -10 minutes east of Rockport and see if Chick's Inn is still open. Great place to grab a cold one, and maybe get into a brawl with locals.:) |

I am sure Obie and Barney can show you the ropes down that way. I bet you might still be able to find so of that illegal liquor down that way. Some of the stories I hear from my friends down in Spencer and Perry counties lead me to beleive it could still be around. Welcome to Indiana! |
Re: Southern Indiana...
Good luck Sprint2, I moved to N.E. Indiana "Fort Wayne" about 4 years ago for the Sprint Car racing.
I too was from the West. Grew up in PHX going to Manzy every weekend. Moved from Colorado when they shut the dirt track down an I too was layed off and a recent break up from a long term relationship. I showed up in Fort Wayne with $50.00 bucks in my pocket, A fair job off of Monster.com and a sight on seen apartment I hooked up with off the net. The second week I was here I used my last $20.00 I had to go to Gas City for the SCRA show " The last year Shuman ran them". I met some of the Greatest People that night which have turned into life long friends. One ownes a midget and helps with a sprint car team. I was a lucky guy considering I moved here for the Sprint car racing. I am a lucky guy. Long Story short.... The cost of living is so low here I now have a Great GIG, Have a nice house, GREAT racing friends or friends in general. Indiana has been very good to me. Let alone all the race tracks and races I have seen. The only thing you might have to do is SLOOOOOW DOOOWN. Indiana is not the West. It is very different. Good People but it is like going back in time. It took me a year to realize this and once I slowed down a bit life is good. People actually talk to thier neighbors here and do not be surprised if next door neighbors bring you home baked good and lots of good eats. Trust me you will put on 20 pounds in no time. I hope you have the luck I have had. I imagine Southern IN is not much different. |
Re: Southern Indiana...
If you want more information about Santa Clause, the owner of this site I am going ot link you to lived there for years.

Hey Flatrightrear, what was the name of the annual festival on the west side of Evansville with all of the street food vendors? It was in late summer if I remember. Lots and lots and lots of food.

That would be the " Nut Fest" |
Re: Southern Indiana...
Westside Fall Festival. Second largest street festival in the country behind "Marti Gras". It is put on by the Nut Club , a not-for profit organization that redistributes $ from this event thru-out the year. Second week in October on west Franklin street. Bars are also hoppin on that street that week. Weather now is gray & cold, 35 - 40 for high.
