Re: Stolen truck Indy area
I had a 63 Chevy II stolen years ago when I lived in Maine. When I got it back minus the stereo and speakers,I hated driving it.
Now you know why I drive the POS van. Nobody even looks at it!! Hope you have good luck in getting the truck back, but I'll bet you feel the same way about driving it as I did with the Chevy II. |

Even if your On-star is not activated, the cops can call in and have it located. I have seen that done many times. Don't know if it costs you anything on the back end after the truck is found, but it would be worth it. If you have a good insurance company they should be pursuing that for you. If the cops don't do it, NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) will. All insurance companies report thefts to NICB.
Being a 2007 your truck is equipped with PK3+ (Pass Key 3) immobilizer system. In this system, the chip is in the head of the key and the plus (+) indicates encryption technology. New coded keys have to be programmed to the vehicle. At this time there is no known equipment capable of cloning these keys. The owner can program new keys into the vehicle with the use of one of their current active keys as well. Replacement keys can be purchased from a GM dealer or an aftermarket source, therefore tracing a purchase of an extra key is nearly impossible. This vehicle can hold up to ten active keys. It is possible to swap in a new immoblizer computer box and use the matching key. This does take awhile to do and is done by very organized and well informed theives. If your truck was taken this way, they will know how to disable the On-star so that a trace cannot be ran. Of course it could always be stolen with a tow truck or a dolly. Have faith, there is a pretty good chance you will see it again. |

Re: Stolen truck Indy area
Guess that depends on how helpful they want to be! I will say that the On-star is very easy to disable. Just takes a couple of wires disconnected.
I will keep an eye out down south of Indy. Good luck. |

Hey Rube, that is what you get moving from the Redbud City to a crime infested area like Fishers.:O: You know you could trust it parked next to the concession stand at Anderson. Plenty of Rubes there to watch it. When you find the guy, tell him to just push the blue button for you.:rolling:doh:

Were the keys in it?
Hate to say it, but a '97 Chevy truck is nothing but a bunch of needed parts. Unethical body shops abound........ that thing is stripped and shipped. |

Re: Stolen truck Indy area
Hope for a good outcome. This is why I am very hesitant to do anything to my car. I recently put a aftermarket radio in mine, but I always remove the face when I leave teh car and lock it. My car has dents all around, scraps, and has no hub caps on it so it looks pretty crappy. And honestly, it is crappy.

Re: Stolen truck Indy area
There is hidden vin's all over vehicles. Engine blocks, tranny's, frames, doors, seats. You name it, it may have a vin on it.

No worries Aero. I work for the largest auto insurance company in the U.S. so I see stolen vehicles and do research on them daily.
I hope this one turns up and the scumbags who stole it are caught. The more of these guys we get behind bars, the easier my job gets. |
Re: Stolen truck Indy area
Update.....Just got a phone call from the police and they wanted to make sure that my truck was still stolen and hadnt been returned.. It was spotted in Indy and IMP was following it and wanted to make sure it wasnt me. They said they would call back within the next hour.

Finally got to see the my truck today. To my surprise for the most part everything was there. It was on three wheels but there.
The story I got was it was found at an Apt complex on 42nd street. The cops came up on them actually in the process of taking the wheels off. They didnt get them because they ran. Something i found funny was when taking my personal things out i knew i had a CD in there. Lets just say it wasnt the same one i was listening to when i was last in it and it wasnt the kind of music i would listen to. I'll let you go from there. So other than a broken window and a couple personal things taking the out come is a little better than i expected. Oh and Areo....for some reason they left my Ballou hat in there... |
