Does your track have a credit card reader?
After seeing this on anther website (4m.net) and thought it would be an interesting conversation here on IOW
So I decided to see what you all think. It could help increase your business 30% or more. Does your local track take plastic? What are the positives and negatives? Seen a lot of interesting comments on this topic. What are you thoughts on this? Seems it's catching on at tracks across the country. I know Eldora does but they have a minimum $5 purchase. Plymouth Speedway has them at the ticket booth and I believe one at the pit gate as well. |
Re: Does your track have a credit card reader?
I think a cash business leaves no paper trail for the IRS to follow.
|
None of the tracks we ran this year had one at pit gate, couldn’t say about front gate as I never go through one. Concession stands should have them though I believe.

Re: Does your track have a credit card reader?
Tri City speedway in Granite City takes them, but I believe they charge an extra $1
|
I've never used it at any track, but I think Brownstown is one at both ends, it would sure speed things up.
|
I think as people get away from carrying a lot of cash it might make things more fan friendly to be credit card friendly.
|
Race tracks need to be cash ,they rely on that to make payoff, for racers, most racers at least lower classes, might spend there last dollars to get to race track, and rely on cash to get home, so paying payoff by check won't help them, can see it at concession stand but not really anywhere else

Re: Does your track have a credit card reader?
Several tracks in the Kansas City area take plastic at the front gates. (don't know about the back gates) It seems to actually take longer than cash. Most of the tracks seem to run the credit cards off of a phone line and they are painfully slow. I know that some of the tracks have credit card only lines.

Re: Does your track have a credit card reader?
I think this day an age in 2019 their becoming a necessary evil in many businesses and all forms of entertainment.

Re: Does your track have a credit card reader?
Lawrenceburg has taken plastic for the last 20r 3 years and no added fee.
|
Some of the tracks payouts are via check I know Lawrenceburg and brownstown are.

If tracks were to report a sales tax on every ticket & pit pass sold that would add up to a substantial sum each year. With cash you can dodge that. As tight as the margins are for some facilities that could be a make or break deal.
If tracks refuse to offer an electronic means to pay then the least they could do is put an ATM or two on premises. The days of "cash is king" are quickly coming to an end, sadly. |
I just noticed in the last month or so, gas stations are flashing 2 different prices, when I still had my business, in the old days, when credit cards were all handled by hand, and at a cost to the merchant, I made it very clear, that I wasn't going to be the one who took it in the shorts when card was flashed, some people actually thought I got paid for taking them, the margin was really short to begin with, so to keep the doors open, it was a necessity.
|
It’s certainly not free on the merchants end to accept plastic, I’ve had to negotiate my fees a few times with the two different banks I’ve used. It takes a cut for sure but has become a necessity in today’s business climate.

Attica, OH takes credit cards but adds $1.00 per ticket. They payout by check also.
|
Our company charges a 3% convenience fee. Cc are customers convenience not the merchants
|
Lincoln Park Speedway takes credit cards and it really slows the line up a whole bunch. So bring cash!
|
I hate standing in line waiting for someone to get there credit card to work. Seems to be getting really popular to swipe instead of paying cash though. How long until Apple Pay is going to be used at race tracks?😂
