Re: Lasalle speedway
must be cuz he got it for less than 2m? I'm surprised that he had enough of a connection to the place to jump into this purchase, unless Sargent talked him into it...but really, if it ran against Macon, they are kinda competition for eachother...I'm still surprised, but good if he did...how many tracks can he "save" tho???...(maybe open wheel/dirt people can quit hating nascar, when they realize how much of that $ has flowed down...lol)

Having lived in IL for most of my life and in Decatur, I really doubt Macon is competing against Ls Salle. Macon is about 2 hours, or 125 miles from LaSalle. The Saturday night classes and racers at Macon are not coming from that far away. They are all Central IL guys. Touring series maybe, but not regular Sat night guys. Fairbury, Sycamore and Peoria Speedway's are far more closer to La Salle. As Racefan 20 says, let's wait for an official announcement.

Re: Lasalle speedway
We live just over a 1/2 hour drive from La Salle Speedway. Given that this area of Illinois is hard core dirt late model territory and the proximity of La Salle Speedway to Fairbury (just over an hour apart) it would appear that sustained profitability would be in question. As has been stated previously a "specials only" schedule may be the only way to make a buck or two and even then that may not be a successful formula.
Personally, we like the La Salle track itself better than Fairbury but that obviously isn't the sentiments of the majority of race fans in this area. Fairbury is the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. Open wheel events have been scheduled over the years with no substantial sustainable success, which brings us back to the realization that this is DLM country, pure and simple, and Fairbury is the undisputed king of that situation. Everyone would love to see Stewart, or someone like him, take possession and make it go, but on the surface that looks like a long shot. |
