USAC Midget Week moved to June?

I was just on the Lawrenceburg Speedway website and they have their 2009 schedule posted. It looks like Midget Week has moved from August to mid June.

June 13
USAC Midget Week, Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprints, AMSA Mini Sprints

I'd like that. :thumb

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

Why do that move are they actually going to get some more non-wing sprint dates for the dirt because after sprintweek is over there schedule is not good nothing until four crown except where they added osky.

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

They're trying to split things up. So August isn't purely midgets and sprint cars maybe have some races later in the year. It's a great move. Applaud them.

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

The schedule also shows just one night of SprintWeek.

Interesting.

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

I'd bet we get THAT back for sprintweek, wouldnt surprise me to see Brownstown get one too. Unlike those of you that haul motorhomes around all week I like going to each track just once.

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

I'm not a huge fan of Sprintweek double-dips either but if they are going to have one or more again in '09 you know what track I'm pulling for.

Should be interesting with Gas City up in the air as well.

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

Heck, I'd like to see Tri-State get a double dip. That is one great place for racing.

Kirk Spridgeon 11/11/08 11:51 PM

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

I still say, why not put it up for bid? If each track gets one race, and that leaves two more open dates for tracks to get a second race, why not offer those races to the two highest bidders? That puts more money into the racers' pockets, and gives us more good races during the week...

racephoto1 11/12/08 12:24 AM

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

Because that makes way too much sense for USAC.

I doubt that many promotors are going to be in a position to "Bid" on USAC or any other type of races next year. H$ll, the way things are going, I'll be happy if we have racing next summer.

I agree. And if tracks have to bid for races, paying more than the normal USAC fee, where do you think that money will come from?

I also heard that during midget week that Brownstown may replace the debacle at Liberty

flywheel 11/12/08 11:22 AM

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

from what i heard from a reliable source, brownstowns promoters were not even invited to the sprint week meeting, so dont look for anything to happen there this year

Thats a shame, I thought they put on a good show last spring. The track prep was MUCH better than the open sprint show they had the year before.

From what I understand THAT will be back for ISW, no more two night shows and as someone else posted no Brownstown ISW date.Anyone care to go out on a limb and "predict" next years ISW dates?

Chris Nunn 11/12/08 12:29 PM

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

Brownstown not getting one kinda pisses me off, BUT heres my prediction

Terre Haute
Kokomo
Bloomington
The Burg
Gas City
Kamp
Tri State

I agree Spridge. Sprintweek is a bastion for locals but is no longer drawing the Cali teams ect based on the general USAC purse. If a couple tracks could pull off some 10G to win durring that week, It might even be able to pull in some winged guys and a couple more Western Teams to come east. Id love to see Sprintweek count for USAC/CRA points as well since there is no longer a Midwest Tour.
Those were great races :)

From what I understood the week and date available conflicted with the Jackson County fair. I apologize in advance if I am wrong.

I went on a Midwest tour this year,it just wasnt sanctioned by USAC. You should get out more often.

With the date changes for midget week,it looks like no Eastern Swing in the same time frame as the last 2 years??

Wasn't this the reasoning behind no Sprint Week date this year, as well?

Kamp still might be in the line-up?? WOW that was officially the absolute worst race ever to try and watch. they would need some MAJOR track prep changes.

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

The way I understand it, this will be the week directly after the Eastern swing...and that Eastern swing comes right after the Knoxville Midget Nationals...

It depends on how profitable you think an Indiana Sprintweek race will be. That is going to be one of the few entities in short-track racing that is a recession-proof moneymaker. And if those promoters want the even-bigger profit of a two-day show, they can throw up a little bit more cash to go back to the racers. I'm not expecting double the purse....I'm saying maybe that could give us a six- or seven-grand to win race during the week that also pays maybe six-hundred to start. Asking the promoters cannot hurt - if they don't want to do it, they don't have to....but if they think it's worth a little extra money to get another date, it benefits the guys in the pits!

Re: USAC Midget Week moved to June?

I would think that Gas City is still a big question mark at this point, unless there are ownership things going on behind the scenes that I haven't heard about. And Kamp would be absolutely awesome if they lit it better. And improved the fencing. And watered it. I'm not in the know about USAC's decision making, but I'd guess that a return to Kamp is questionable. Or at least it should be questionable.

In a perfect world, I would schedule it like this:

Burg
Liberty
Gas City
Kokomo
Kamp
<off day or two>
Paragon/Putnamville International Speedways
N. Vernon
Bloomington
Haub
Haute

Bad part about that Kirk is that maybe the extra bucks wont go into the purse

Thur July 16 Kamp
Fri July 17 Bloomington

Promoters might need the extra profit they make from Sprint week, or midget week, to offset losses on other races in the season.

Whether it's Sprintweek or Midget Week, I can't see USAC or too many fans excited about returning to Rutnamville until Dave Allison is gone.....
And that's unfortunate because personally I like the place, and have seen some fabulous races there.
