speidel21 7/11/19 7:07 PM

Track is still racing micros and another class tonight.

flagboy55 7/11/19 7:58 PM

USAC Twitter says a combination of wet grounds and safety issues are the reason. Interesting to find out what the safety concerns are.

bmemmer 7/11/19 8:21 PM

I'm not bashing usac or anybody. My biggest question is wasnt usac officials there yesterday or even this morning? Why wait so late to cancel it with safety concerns? They posted this afternoon that they was racing then boom!

Some of the historians will need to help me, but during the 2008 Indiana Midget week an event was cancelled for safety concerns once the drivers/fans arrived at the track. It has a similar feel to this event. I remember that it was a big topic on this forum (and the reason that I found this forum)

It brought up the concept of how much pre-work does USAC do before they will sanction a race. Does an official have to inspect the track before being placed on the schedule for the first time? If they are inspected before the race is scheduled, how can they then be cancelled on the day of the show. As there was last time, there are a lot of rumors about which drivers complained and which drivers said they wouldn't race. It seems that if the track is vetted properly that this would never happen.

Think if I was in the area I might head towards Power I events ?

Union County Speedway in Liberty, IN. That was a crazy scene that day, in the aftermath of the decision to cancel.

Union County Speedway. Rebar sticking up from the retaining wall I think.

Not sure I’ve done this correctly but a pretty reliable source posted this picture as a safety concern

I agree with you, Jonr. One would think USAC had to have inspected the track and facilities BEFORE it was ever placed on the schedule. I'm sure we'll never hear the full story, but it does leave a bad taste, especially for those who travelled some distance to attend.

OK that is pretty significant, but once again couldn't that get vetted before the track is put on the schedule.

KMS2683 7/11/19 9:41 PM

So the race got switched from Beloit to Concordia a couple months ago. Hours before race time, safety concerns cancel the show. Completely and entirely the fault of the sanction body for not doing due diligence. My understanding is USAC even required the track to install a timing loop. Guess should have had Keith check out the track before today!!!!!!

You mean the group that took their ball home and started their own race on Sunday? :11;

Funny, since on tuesday night people were ******** about no catch fences.

nonwingkingofkalifornia 7/11/19 9:48 PM

So the power line is to low??? Oops, no one wants to get impaled on those horizontal spikes sticking out. Who designed that catch fence?

Re: Concordia Cancelled?

2008 Staab did inspect the track and mentioned the three things needed fixed before race day. Was promised it would get done. Race day, Not fixed. They actually got two of the three problems fixed before race time but couldn't move a grader sunk in the mud outside turn one. The sanction was pulled but a race in both sprints and midgets still run. Got a little strange when a officer needs assistance went out after a little sanction mocking by the announcer. dozens of police showed up. Thought I was at a Blues Brothers Concert with police every five feat across the top of the grandstand.

As for this race, Read Tim Clauson's post on Facebook. I don't know who's right or wrong as I feel there are several tracks run with some serious safety concerns and nothings said.

However I Lean on the side of safety but it's ultimately a drivers decision to strap in or not.

chathamracefan 7/12/19 8:38 AM

Re: Concordia Cancelled?

Just read Mr Clauson's facebook post. Regardless of the ******** involved or if maybe a decision should have been made earlier, it seems the right call was made. Much better to error on the side of safety. With what this sport has taken from his family, I'd say he has the right to be cautious if he sees something that doesn't seem up to par.

Re: Concordia Cancelled?

Yet I've seen no one comment about midgets flipping out of turns 3 and 4 at Red Dirt and almost landing in the woods due to there being no catch fence... We will never know! It's all irrelevant at this point. Ready to see some racing tonight.

Re: Concordia Cancelled?

I have an idea. Before you sign a race, go to the track and inspect it first like they used to do. If you don't want to drive there to inspect it, ask the promoter to send you pictures of things like the catch fence, wall, turns, etc etc. Everyone has a Smartphone with a camera today and can instantly text or email pictures.

Dick Monahan 7/12/19 9:33 AM

I tried "Tim Clauson" & "Clauson-Marshall Racing" but could not find that post. Is there another?

There's a post on Tim's FB page (Tim Clauson), or at least there was one earlier this morning (can't access FB from work)....

Yup. It didn't come up on my phone this AM, but it's there on my desktop now. As others have said, it's a good post.
