Stevie Reeves Loses Job
Saw this on Track Forum. He was Jimmy Johnson's spotter and Hendrick laid him off. He is truly one of the good guys.

Reeves and the Hendrick organization part on good terms. The spotter, who helped guide Johnson to his second consecutive Sprint Cup championship in 2007, has already been contacted by other teams and is weighing his options. "They wanted to give me plenty of time to find something before Homestead and not leave me hanging high and dry," said Reeves, who will spot the final two races of the season for Johnson as he attempts to win a record-tying third straight championship. "Rick Hendrick knows how to treat people, and that's what makes him so successful. Jimmie Johnson is a class act, and the only thing I regret is that I won't be working with him next year, but I'm going to land on my feet OK." |

To bad for Steve hope he does find another great opportunity. He is a class act that i am happy to say i got to race against.

Re: Stevie Reeves Loses Job
Actually, nascar could do all of their teams a favor and save them a little money by eliminating the most ridiculous position ever created. nascar should ban the use of blocking coaches.....er, I mean, "spotters" and replace them with a few nascar officials, on "the roof", who could relay any legitimate safety information through a one way radio link to all drivers simultaneously.
If the driver actually needs an "assistant driver", that guy should be seated in the car so he could give far more accurate and carefully considered advice than is possible from "the roof", where he is safe from the consequences of bad advice that he may give. "spotters".....Phooey! |
Re: Stevie Reeves Loses Job
Nascrap the series is way overpriced and not worth a chit to watch nor follow anymore.

["spotters".....Phooey!]
Go get 'em Mac ! :applaud: How about another basic rule of Big-Time Racing: NO Mothers in Victory Lane ! Did you ever see Parnelli's or Foyt's mother in Victory Lane ? Noooo Way. (Leave it to the sissy-boys, this includes both Busch brothers) :O: |

Re: Stevie Reeves Loses Job
I can see some of the kids that are out there now have a problem with their 1/4 midget dads in the back ground trying to make there kid the next Jeff Gordon. But there are exceptions. Take my parents for example my dad who has more knowledge about sprint car racing in his pinkie finger than alot of car owners have in there whole bodies. And my mom who busts her ass every weekend changing gears, washing the car, setting the rollbar and videos every lap so i can watch the race to see what i could have done better. And my soon to be wife who keeps and eye on my helment, gets lineups, and gives me support when i am feeling Sh*tty. They all do something that takes pressure off of me. So the only thing i have to think about is the race track and the car. So when i get the put that car into victory lane they are expected to be there. Why? Because they earned it and want them to be there. If some car owner told me that my family couldnt be a part of my racing. I would quit that ride faster than you could say "SUPERDUKE". The last two years my crew has pretty much been two women. (Girlfriend and Mom) And with 16 wins 4 Championships. That should be enough to earn any mans respect.

Back on topic... A guy I work with is an old friend of Stevie and used to fly him to the races when he was still in open wheel. I forwarded the link to him as he hadn't heard the news yet. He was going to call Stevie and find out where he might land.
I will post any news if it becomes available. |
Re: Stevie Reeves Loses Job
Class act all the way, and never hear a bad thing about him. I do have to say though, I don't like the radio deal. All you need is a one way radio for race control, safety only.
Also no radios on anything that runs on dirt, heck might as well put a rearview mirror on. |
