Indy 500

Nice job NBC and IMS. The pre race coverage was outstanding. I wouldn't change anything for years, Kelly Clarkson and Jim Cornilson are perfect.

Thank you.

Opening laps were very racy, much more competitive than napcar

TQ29m 5/26/19 2:24 PM

I missed the beginning of the festivities, did they do the diesel drive? Just wondering, I had the privilege to work on all of them several years ago. Bob

Yeah, great job calling Danica the first female Indy 500 driver and never correcting it. What's worse is she went along with it.

Boosted Danica egos nbc- and tirico should offer ms Guthrie an apology

She can’t drive a Big Wheel.

Koko06 5/26/19 3:36 PM

Is it just me or does others want to see ducktape put over Danica's mouth? Wasn't fond when I heard Dale Jr was going to do the 500 but he's going a good job. Please next year DONT ask Danica back

IndianaSprintFan 5/26/19 3:41 PM

CMR in p14 with 18 to go. Very nice showing

Wingman 5/26/19 3:43 PM

Rossi has drove his #!! off today!

chathamracefan 5/26/19 4:01 PM

Guess blocking rules go out the window on last lap. That was major blocking. Entertaining race tho

racer-x 5/26/19 4:05 PM

If this was a horse race the winner would have been disqualified for getting out of his lane!

badcoupe 5/26/19 4:06 PM

Rossi played his hand a lap too soon. Helluva race though!

Re: Indy 500

Excellent rules package, race, & deserving winner. Career saver month for Pagenaud. Rossi WILL win another one (thankfully the American seems happy to be here and maybe gave up on his F-1 aspirations).

Lot of good stories thru the field. Another good 500 for Sato...Kanaan 9th in Foyt car...Conor Daly 10th...Pippa Mann CMR car 16th

Do gota say Special Ed's solid day & nice 6th place finish didn't seem to get much attention on either NBC or Indycar radio (the parts I sampled of both). For a part-time driver and not one of the biggest teams, think they coulda talked him up more

Re: Indy 500

Simon drove a way smarter race.

In between the many commercials was some good racing.

Two drivers that raced midgets finished in the top 10.

IndianaSprintFan 5/26/19 5:26 PM

I will be honest I didn’t want a non American esp in a penski car to win but well deserved and a very good run by Simon. Will Ed ever have his day? I think his day will come

If Penske is done with Helio, Ed has shown he deserves a shot in one of the Captain's cars there. He can take the offer Tony never did...lol

The only problem I had with Danica this month was her wardrobe last week. She did fine. Anyone who thinks differently apparently has a deeper problem with her. Remember she has won an Indy Car race and done very well at the speedway. Let it go

Very unbaised comment since the subject is dating a Packer and you're a Viking fan!

Re: Indy 500

maybe I missed it, I'm getting old and don't pickup on things like I used to, but after watching the race and continued coverage on NBC Sports, I was disappointed that there was no finish run down.

Overall I think NBC did a good job and it was one of the better races in years.

Good race
Wasn't crazy about NBC's coverage... lot of commercials and did they have pit reporters? If they did, they didn't go to them much.

robert gatten 5/26/19 11:50 PM

Could not hear announcers over Indy PA and sound of cars. NBC waisted money on 3 guys up stairs. Thought Danica & JR did good job and you could hear them.

I was wondering that too! I mostly had the radio on & only looked at the TV part of the time tho..I know Rutledge was in the infield...lol - which was fine, seemed like it wasn't TOO much, but added that aspect; altho I'da voted for former radio correspondent/midget racing HoF legend KO to take that spot!

Blunder of the day was when Mike tirico called the first lady to race at Indy that's wrong it was Janet Guthrie nbc- owes Janet an aapology after the blunder all during the race there was no retraction of the error

Non wing lover 5/27/19 2:40 AM

He called Danica the first lady to run indy

I agree with you 100%. I haven't watched the telecast yet and probably won't (a friend said NBC failed to show the complete flyover when the A-10 and F-16 came back and circled the track). I sit at the top of turn 3 and saw the blocking with my own eyes as he swerved back and forth down the back straightaway. I am a big Penske fan, but I thought what Pagenaud did was disgusting!:7:

wright59 5/27/19 11:50 AM

Who wouldn’t block on the last lap of the Indy 500?? You think they don’t do that at every level of racing for real?? I was rooting for Rossi to
Get him but that’s how it goes! Chevy’s were just to strong on the straights. Great race to be at!! And I do agree 100% that 2nd flyover was bad a!!.

ISF 5/27/19 11:54 AM

Re: Indy 500

We wish it was easier to distinguish one car from another. There are no numbers clearly visible besides the one on the nose piece forward of the cockpit. Unless you're well versed on the sponsorship of any given car that doesn't stand out like Pagenaud's does it's hard for the casual fan to figure out who's who at a glance.

The last 1/2 of the race was very good. Rossi got a little excited a time or two and it appeared he had good reason. Our favorite is Ed Carpenter and we were hoping it would happen for him this year but not to be. We were also pulling for Conor Daly for obvious reasons. It's not often we get to see a guy that currently races at Indy on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend race at Du Quoin during the Christmas Season!

quicktime3 5/27/19 12:15 PM

There is a difference between blocking & breaking the draft. To me, that’s what he was doing.

I wouldn't call it blocking either, but he was defending his lead by disturbing the air, too far apart to call it blocking.jmho

I may be wrong, but I thought he said the first woman to lead at Indy. I thought it was a really good race, so much so I watched Sunday night and then again on Monday afternoon. The broadcast wasn't perfect,(not many are) but I thought the good outweighed the bad. The prerace coverage was more than the 500 had gotten in years.

I was wondering about the "lead" part.

Post-race coverage too tho!...always seemed a let-down when ABC cut-away & it was OVER...espcly now that there are no Sunday night race news shows or Windtunnel either. At least some race re-airs are cool
