Eldora Speedway

Opinions on tonight’s racing and Eldora in general? I’ve been at least once the last 8 years and I’ve yet to see a race half was good as Kokomo, Haubstadt.

Koko06 5/10/19 11:25 PM

Haven't been to eldora in over a year and in my opinion both races stunk and glad I won't be back tomorrow and really thinking hard about going for the 4- crown☹️

I thought ehh it was ok. Basically it

Non wing lover 5/11/19 12:54 AM

It was awful only good thing was the car count 37 USAc cars49 woo racing was one big choo choo train not worth the 29 bucks they charged for general admission I will bluntly state this since Tony Stewart took ownership of Eldora the racing only need gotten worse as for the world of outlaws they are an absolute farce Mr Gibson tries to make the races sound exciting but they are really not but he is paid to-do that it was terrible might be taking rest of2019 there off

Kydehart 5/11/19 2:58 AM

Every race isn’t going to be fantastic. Having said that I thought the racing from the 2-6th range was pretty good, but maybe I’m just easy to please. Just because the leader checks out doesn’t mean it’s a bad race. I just enjoy about any day at a race track. Especially an incredibly nice facility like Eldora.

PIT CART 5/11/19 6:31 AM

I really enjoyed the racing last night, I just wish people would sit down!!

motorhead748 5/11/19 6:57 AM

I enjoyed both shows. Looking forward to tonight & hope the rain holds off.
I've been around this stuff for nearly 40 years as car owner, driver & now fan and eldora is special. One reason for that is that it's SO hard to do well. And I'd say if you asked every sprint car driver in the country which track they'd most like to win at, eldora would be at the top of the list

Re: Eldora Speedway

I too thought the racing from second to sixth was pretty good for USAC. The outlaw format always start fast cars in front, so that limits passing. Once Schatz got into lap traffic, Schuhart was reeling him in so it made if more interesting. Not the best racing, but surely not the worst.

flagboy55 5/11/19 8:42 AM

Not worth the $29 bucks? You pay that just about to see either of these series separately. Over 80 sprint cars on the grounds, show run off efficiently and ya got people griping. I suppose some folks would complain if their beer was cold

Rich Mersereau 5/11/19 9:14 AM

The top sprint car series in the country at the same track on the same night with no "support divisions" cant lose. One of my favorite races of the season, loved it. Hope Dave Darland is feeling better soon, the car was tore up bad.

Koko06 5/11/19 9:16 AM

Sorry I don't call that racing! They need to change they rule maybe it would make for better racing if they would invert the top 6-8 cars watching schatz start on the pole (a real yawner) but if you like that kind of racing that's your opinion.

TCR57 5/11/19 9:19 AM

Watched the USAC show on Floracing and it looked pretty good compared to the “good old days” footage they were showing of races there in the late 70s / early 89s. Dusty track, rutted up, etc.

Koko06 5/11/19 9:30 AM

Was not worth $29.00! You can see 2 local shows any weekend for $12-15 and far far better racing. If gas city didn't rain out we would of been there and if they would of gotten 21 cars per say I bet it would if been a whole lot better then what we seen last night. Congrats to Tyler Courtney at least he came from 7th to win

Then save your money and go to two local shows. I’m sure you’ll find something to complain about at both of them.

Fast , but very boring ..wont go again ...sticking with smaller tracks ..Kokomo, Gas City etc ..slower , but really good close racing ...

Charles Nungester 5/11/19 11:10 AM

Pee and moan All I've been doing for ten days in the hospital. You guys do it at the race track

Enjoy being out and about! Good race, bad race. Big deal

Koko06 5/11/19 11:24 AM

I will save my money haven't been there in over a year and it will be a very long time before I go back. Better racing is better when it's on a smaller track. Didn't miss athing not going for over a year.so get out and support the locals tracks

SoIllSprinter 5/11/19 12:29 PM

Wow. Many and more negative people showing up here. Everyone being “connected” whether through social media or forums like this brings out the negative vibes. What casual fan or new fan would want to attend a race at an iconic track like Eldora after reading this? I think we all have a responsibility to help promote and grow this sport or it might end up like nascar. If you don’t like what you are seeing, fine, don’t go, you have that choice, but don’t take it upon yourself to spew and make it your mission to deter others.

Re: Eldora Speedway

Always gotta be the haters. Let's see....last night for only $29 we all saw the only track in America that books WoO and USAC on the same night. We saw 11 WoO and 6 USAC races. We did not have much dust. Sure, we did not have the side by side racing like a 1/4 mile track, but we knew that going there. We had the lowest priced concessions of any track, clean restrooms, bright lights, a scoreboard that had all the leaders, qualifying times, instant replays, interviews and we get entertained after every race. What more do you haters want? Probably be the same negative posts later this summer when USAC goes to Knoxville.

Therealether 5/11/19 2:46 PM

Has anyone ever thought that maybe the track isn't why you didn't enjoy it? Guys, the cars aren't the same as they were 30 years ago. There's so much more put into setup. It could just be that the cars aren't conducive to what you may think is "good " racing at Eldora these days.

dsc1600 5/11/19 3:23 PM

When the track slows down and there’s grooves everywhere people ***** that it’s not the “old Eldora”. Then when it’s fast, people complain about the lack of passing.

There are just some people who you could send a limo to pick them up and drive them to the track for free. You could stop to feed them on the way there, let them into the race free, give them a free t-shirt and feed them again while there. Then after the race, you have the limo drive them home and on the way, stop to feed them and get them laid as well. And, do you know what? Some of them would still complain!

Koko06 5/11/19 7:33 PM

Flo or any other racing source nothing against them but they don't do the track justice.you have to be there in person to understand.

openwheelfan1 5/11/19 8:32 PM

I lived in Dayton, OH area in the late 70’s and never missed a sprint race at a Eldora during my time there. I went to WoO shows and USAC shows, and open competition shows. I know this will be greeted with derision, but not every race there was a great race. There was many a race we went to that was so dusty you couldn’t hardly see the cars on the backstretch. There were races where there was very little passing because the track was 1 groove. Yes, I was fortunate to witness some incredible racing there, but I also witnessed some dust bowls and snoozers. No dirt track is perfect, but unfortunately, over time many of us remember them as such.

My comment had nothing to do with the racing, the surface, the facility, what I watched etc. It is a reflection on what happens. You can have the greatest race, with the best drivers, at the best track, with the best food and cheapest ticket prices in the country and someone is still not going to be happy.

motorhead748 5/12/19 9:45 AM

As I did last nite, eldora is one of the few tracks that I will take a new fan too, especially a female. Because the restrooms are big & clean, concessions are good, they start on time & new fan wouldn't know a good race from a not so good race. We went and had a great time even tho it rained out.

Re: Eldora Speedway

It absolutely boggles my mind that veteran race fans would go to a half mile track and still expect the same thing they see on a bull ring. Half miles are a completely different style of racing. The speeds are much higher, the drivers have to be more calculating in the risk, the repercussions are more if they are wrong, things take longer to set-up, etc. It's much more of a poetry in motion race than a cushion pounding thrill ride of a short track.

.....AND the 17th is the night before Indiana Sprint Week starts at Gas City. Even though it is across the border, it is like ISW just got bigger.

Win/win for both wing and non-wing fans.

Re: Eldora Speedway

I had a great time the track was the best I have seen it in a long time. 37 USAC sprints on a well prepared half mile, loved every minute of it. Cars going well over a 100 miles an hour whats not to like about that. My favorite sprints on a 1/2 mile friends and family and cold beer doesn't get any better.
