Yes they were showing last years after the silver crown and sprints qualified. Filling in dead spot until opening ceremonies.

racer-x 4/28/19 3:23 PM

I saw a couple drivers we’re going to try to make it back to Kokomo today( if the race wasn’t cancelled). Was that even going to be possible??

Re: Flo coverage of Toledo Silver Crown

Omg, great post race interview. Santos was piss*d off and challenged Pierce to fist fight. Swanson ran away with it cause of the battle between Pierce and Santos. Think Bobby would have had something for Swanson if he could’ve gotten around him sooner. Would have made for interesting finish.

Good coverage from Flo. Thanks !!

Bobby Santos FB Page posted that Bobby was involved in a major wreck during the sprint car race being run after the silver crown. He's alright but there asking for prayers for the others involved. :(

I hate to say it but I think they announcers sound like a couple of idiots. That was a Bad scene and they sounded like rookies! :(

Pretty sure they did, I watched it, Pierce won, Grant second, Joey Schmidt third. there was a lengthy cleanup for the crash on the frontstretch.

IndianaSprintFan 4/28/19 5:40 PM

Were the drivers involved okay?

They said they transported one driver to the hospital for observations. I believe it was the driver that was t-boned. Everyone else I believe is okay. A lot of cars were wrecked pretty bad. I think it was BS III that went flipping down the front stretch. Glad that it wasn't worse.

I'm pretty sure Pierce was the car that made it by the stopped car when he went to the inside. Then the 2,3 and 4th place cars plowed in.

Were there yellow lights in the corners, flags etc?

What happened that no one saw a yellow

ossuks 4/28/19 6:23 PM

Re: Flo coverage of Toledo Silver Crown

Santos was put back on restart for jumping the 26 when it was Helen Keller obvious that the 26 did not go.....then on redo, the 26 does not go....but the damage was done !

I think they're saying the lights never came on and others questioned whether they had radio communication. I know BS III brother in law who also races, wasn't too happy with what he was watching either. He let them know it too on the FB feed :20:

fourteen fan 4/28/19 6:46 PM

Yes they did. Cut it to 25 laps. We counted at least 10 seconds the guy sat there.

The voices you heard in the video of the accident were off-air chatter among race officials, not from the announcer.

At least I know the people’s reaction in the booth was pretty much the same as mine. Anybody know if the lights cane on? You can clearly see the flag man waving the yellow. Just glad everyone was ok, that was ugly and coulda been hell of a lot worse.

7horse 4/28/19 7:36 PM

The same guy led all 100 laps, sounds amazing

lol, I doubt that. Kody ran the fastest lap of the race on lap 73. it was 2 tenths faster than any other lap. Kody wouldhv loved some company.
The guy is on a different level right now.

More interesting than your posts.

Jbaldwin 4/28/19 9:26 PM

I was at race but couldn’t hear what announcer was saying. What happened to Kyle Hamilton early in race? I would have liked to seen if Santos had anything for Swanson. I thought it was a good race. Congrats to Kody, he’s not missing a beat this year.

Re: Flo coverage of Toledo Silver Crown

The battle from second to fourth was VERY good

rpedersen20 4/28/19 9:31 PM

If the lights didnt come on that's another thing in itself. But if they were on then it's time to leave the radios out of pavement sprint racing except for the little 5. Make these guys be aware of what's going on again. Most pavement sprint racers who are new to it rely on siri way to much and never didnt have her giving directions.

That crash reminded me of when Robbie got hit at Winchester. Just a reminder of how fast things in racing can happen. The high banks can be brutal.

RockinRy 4/29/19 2:54 AM

Re: Flo coverage of Toledo Silver Crown

Before he got actually ran into (Tyler) Another car was flying and just missed him. There is no way all those guys missed the yellow. I kept going back to watch the replay and I can't see any yellow lights on just the flag man. That was scary I hope that kid (I believe it was Tyler) that went off in the ambulance is okay.

ossuks 4/29/19 7:56 AM

Re: Flo coverage of Toledo Silver Crown

There are 3 ways of communicating with the drivers.
1) Lights
2) Race control radio
3) Spotters

All seemed to fail....In the audio from the tower two people on radios can be herd....one is the track/safety, and he is actually rolling trucks while the cars that eventually run into trouble on the front stretch are entering turn 3....and you can hear another person say "yellow, yellow, front stretch"....there is no way "all" the drivers missed race control, so, was the radio on the wrong channel, were radio checks done prior to the start of the event, did the race control radio not work (dead battery, unplugged. ect)....

Not going to place blame but, this MUST be fixed, this has to be an eye opener...there are steps to take to prevent this from happening....was the starter in control of the lights?....all types of questions that 1 or 2 guys know the answer to!

You just do not wake up one day and decide you are a race official/director...there is a lot that goes into planning and running a safe event.... there are steps that can be taken to prevent this type of travesty from reoccurring.... You can get in wrong in tech, you can get it wrong on track prep, you can miss on a time schedule, ect.... You can not miss on driver /fan/participant safety....No excuse....It is not balls and strikes...It is somebody's son, dad, brother, husband, wife, daughter, friend!!!

And to quote my Father..."There are no replacement parts in stock"!

Exactly, I counted 14 seconds (Almost a lap) from yellow flying to impact.

Kydehart 4/29/19 8:42 AM

They weren’t allowed spotters at this event. One way radios only. Spotters would have avoided the whole thing even with race control dropping the ball

Charles Nungester 4/29/19 8:50 AM

Re: Flo coverage of Toledo Silver Crown

There used to be a poster on here named IMZIE who passed several years ago. Former Flagman. Was huge on, And I agree,. having two people in the flag stand.

Would say the flagman counted laps and watched turns 3/4 handled the flags and counted laps, and the other spotted 1/2 handled lights.

I don't know what went on here. But it was a epic failure and I hope everyone is ok.

Re: Flo coverage of Toledo Silver Crown

From what I saw in the videos & via social media later, it was a combination of the flagman forgot to flip the yellow lights on and race control apparently didn't change from USAC's Raceceiver channel to the AVSSBB channel. Lucky no one was horribly hurt or worse :(

Whom ever is found at fault ,Are they going to pay for the damage to the race cars? Or is that a cost of stupidity in the learning curve. You only have human error or a act of God. Fixed it..

USAC wasn't the sanctioning body for the sprint car race, just the Silver crown.
