New Grandstand at Bloomington?

Looks like they built a aluminum one over the top of the old hillside grandstands.

Holy crap! No more twisted ankles and red spider mites. Whoever was the drunk that poured the concrete in those bleachers will live in infamy. :9:

Looks like the lawn chair space in the first turn is gone.

Oh No, that borders on irreverence!!!

LeviJones20 3/29/19 3:59 PM

Ron, preserving the hillside seats is priority! The concrete was to the point that it could not be used for seating or walkway.

Thank you to one who gave me a heads up that this thread was becoming “you can’t use the hill”

See you all April 12

Not from a nascar track, thanks to InProduction for helping make this happen in time for a 2019 solution

Was there not a thread a few months back talking about Bloomington being on the ropes and possibly shutting down? Or is my memory escaping me?

Nonetheless, with a new grandstand, SOMEONE must have $$$ to put into it. :6:

USAC is promoting it. There was a post awhile back about it I do believe

Re: New Grandstand at Bloomington?

Its funny that someone puts more money in the place than has been put in since I have been going,(1984) and people still find a reason to be negative. This has to be safer than the old bleachers with the unlevel and odd shaped steps. After hearing year after year that the place is going to close forever, someone whether it is USAC, or the person who holds the lease, are spending big money on the place. I personally hope this eliminates the chairs behind the last row of seats that clogs the walkway in front of the press box. Good job to all involved. See you April 12.

Brent and Levi I dont think Ron(or I) were being negative in mentioning that part of the hill where we usually sat was being covered by the new grandstand. It was an observation. I'll hold my opinion on whether I like it or not until I actually go there and see it. Dont be so sensitive.

Re: New Grandstand at Bloomington?

I also just made an observation. I did not invest time or money in the project, so I have nothing to be sensitive about. Sorry if you were sensitive to my observation.

Ron, wern’t your turn one seating area to the left of the pole in the photo?

ronmil 3/30/19 12:30 PM

I always sat near the pole, sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right. It all depended on what was available.
I guarded the trash barrel diligently for many years and am proud to say that the trash barrel was not stolen during my tenure! 😁

Pat Sullivan has a really good column called Saving Bloomington Speedway in the latest SprintCar and Midget magazine. I was happy to hear that this is a 3 year lease. Hope I am not being too sensitive.
