Thoughts on Kokomo tonight

Couldn’t say no to a free sprint car rac, took the wife and kids to watch. Not the most exciting night of racing I think. Windom led from start to finish and not much passing this night. Haven’t had the best experiences lately. Can’t complain too much though since I paid $0.00 to watch 54 cars. Didn’t get home until 12:45 on a week day so that kind of sucked Overall give it a 4/10 hope to have a better experience when I go this Saturday

Seems to me we had a very similar inaugural post from a member with a very similar user name within the past few months, wonder if it’s merely a coincidence.

Ballou 9th to 2nd in his heat, Cottle from the tail of both C and B to the transfers?

Someone don't know how to watch racing. I also didn't think it was the best racing at Kokomo, but even just watching speedshift I'd give it a 7.5 of 10.

Thanks Kokomo, see ya Sat!

A night of 54 Wingless Sprints racing for free and you give it a below average rating? Heck I'd be over the moon just to see that number of cars hot lap for free!

Fun night of racing and all for free. C and B were excellent, watching Carson Short coming from 19th to 2nd in the C and 15th to 2nd the B. Nice job to the track crew for getting the track in tip top shape after so much rain. Looking forward to next 3 nights.

Carson Short actually finished P1 in the C after starting 15th.

I thought Cap Henry did pretty good after he got some laps in. I thought it was cool that he tried it. As good as he has been running, he probably had more to lose than to gain. Everyone sitting around us liked the racing, but maybe we just don't know what we are watching.

Did you not watch the C and B main? No passing? Carson Short started P15 in the C and won it to tag the tail of the B. Started P19 in the B and finished 2nd. He started 19th in the A and finished 12th. I would say there was some passing!

The B main was worth a $20 admission. Watching Cshort, McDougal, DiMattia, and a few others battle for the last transfer was incredible. McDougal is worth the price of admission just in itself. Kid is fun to watch

Last night was pretty good racing. But what I enjoyed the most, was how lucky we are to have this track in Indiana. I sat and was amazed how the Oconners have turned this place into a beautiful race track. It was a perfect nite and just the site of races and waiting for the next race. You have to marvel this track now. I did not see one thing all night that was a negative. They had the over flowed parking lots layer out so many good sites of people partying and lots of laughing.I don't know if we know how lucky we are.

B Main was very good! Feature seemed to stretch out and was over in a hurry. But that's racing. It was a pretty good free one.

Not saying the original poster is right or wrong, but Kokomo is different from what it was like from the reconfiguration until this year. T-Mez even said he misses the old Kokomo on Twitter. When was the last time the cushion got pushed up next to the wall and was the fastest way around? I am not saying the racing is bad now, but it was better before the change this year. I don’t know why anyone would mess with a good thing. The tires in the corners have been pushed so far in and the track is heavy enough that the shortest way around stays fast all night.

Absolutely spot on answer here they keep pushing the tires in any further they might as well go by the light poles then they can all race on the inside
on a completely flat track they have cut so much dirt out the banking does not start till over half way up in the corner. Look at sprint week what I bad night at the track that was nothing worth driving over 6.5 hours to see anymore. Hopefully they will put it back like it was when they first redid the track because the new stands on the backstretch and the lighting is done right.

I don't think they changed a darn thing, I just think it's been wetter. it rained most of last week and they got several inches sunday and monday as well. It was like that at the Kokomo grand prix until they reworked the track after the heats. Then it went to the wall in 3/4. Speaking of the tires, I remember a sprint week, probably Levi's last year where they had a open red and levi's crew was down kicking the tires in, He won. Seen it again this year at Rt44 can't remember which car but he'd come off four just low enough to hit that tire enough to move it a few inches.

Oh well, good and safe Smackdown to all.

Sunshine has won about 30% of the USAC sprint car races this year. 5 drivers have won 81% of the races. 6 drivers have won 89% of the races. 9 drivers have won all the races. Sunshine has 8 wins, Windom and KT 4 each, Darland and Bacon 3, everyone else 5. If you add TMez, everyone else only won 3 races. They are Ballou, Stockon and Leary. Last driver to win a race who wasn't one of those 9 was Roa last November out in California. There were 4 new winners in 2016.

david mitchell 8/24/18 8:58 AM

Have to agree on this point. You pretty much know the winner is coming from the first two rows if not the front row.Still slightly better than Formula One.Just enjoy the racing.😆

What? That's like saying tap water is about as good a Dom Pérignon. This is if you enjoy a nice glass or two of the bubbly. :6:

You have to consider the source of the post. Remember he thinks ending the USAC season in Indiana in November is a good idea

david mitchell 8/24/18 3:24 PM

Once again proving that attention is not paid,i never said that the USAC season should end here in November.I said it should end here in mid to late October.Have you or anyone been to Perris in November. It sometimes is not California dreamin weather.⛄️That is not the point however. The fact is the USAC sprint car series is very predictable at the moment.Four cars and drivers dominate. The winner usually comes from the first two rows.Really,if you start past position four, forget it.What I want to see is a fight between these four drivers at end of season, then take whole show to Cali so not one of you can see it unfold in person.Lets run the whole season essentially in one area and then take it 3,000 miles away for the most exciting part.yeah, that makes sense.Lets not let the people who have supported it all year see it.I told this to a friend of mine who knows nothing about racing, and he said are you kidding me.They actually do that he said.Speaks volumes.

Modern day cars are too hooked up. Make rules to loosen cars or the only way they are good is when the track is slick and dusty which fans don't like or tacky and rough which owners don't like.

Hustlin-Hoosier 8/24/18 9:18 PM

How's the weather at the track ?
Any Updates ? Thanx !! :31:
