Indy 500 blackout

Not sure how many people here live in the blackout area, but anyone who wants to watch live on TV and otherwise won't be able to, feel free to message me here and I'll send you a link to do so.

I wondered that myself, but according to what I just read on the internet, and who can doubt that, ABC will be covering it beginning at 11:00. Bob

Bob, besides a couple years ago when the 500 was Sold Out, that's the only time, the Blackout was lifted for people watching on Channel 6 around the Indy area. We are lucky and have ABC West, so we can watch it live regardless, if there is a blackout.

Does anyone know if Kokomo will be blacked out? I only have a hand crank antenna on the camper.

Yes it’ll be blacked out, only time it hasn’t been blacked out was the 100th one

What's the blackout distance on Kokomo. I think I may just go to the event so as not to miss it.

I’m not sure what you mean. Pit cart was referring to the black out distance for the Indy 500. At least I think he was

It blows my mind that there are places you cant just sit in front of your tv and watch the greatest spectacle of them all. The Indy 500 is one of the last great American events, the last of the great American generation should be able to watch at home no matter where they live.

Re: Indy 500 blackout

If you are close enough to Fort Wayne the race is not blacked out on their ABC affiliate, which is 21-1 over the air. If you are close to ABC stations in other markets you should be able to get it also. It’s just Channel 6 in Indy.

I’ve never heard of anyone who wants to go to the race staying home just because it is on television. It’s the greatest spectacle in racing, and they’re not hurting at the gate because of television. Doug Boles is far and away the best promoter in motorsports, but this is one thing I would like to see him work on for the fans that can’t attend anymore. It may not be something he has any influence over. I still think the speedway should know their demographic that has supported them for so long, and it is a generation that is going to have a hard time getting to the track the way they used to. I hope NBC is more open minded about the blackout in the future.

The IMS Radio broadcast goes back to the early 50's. I expect the blackout is in the interest of protecting their own network locally. Many consider the radio broadcast of the Indianapolis 500 to be the finest coverage of any sporting event in the world. If I ever get to where I can't attend, I would choose to listen to the live broadcast then watch it at night.
