MAY 12TH - SERVICE MEN & WOMEN NIGHT AT THE RACES
It’s “Service Men & Women Night at the Races” Saturday May 12th at the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind. All Fire, Police, EMS, Armed Forces, and Veterans receive FREE general admission. Just present your valid Service ID at the main front gate entrance. And if that isn’t enough, it’s also “47025 Zip Code Night!” Any 47025 zip code resident who presents a valid driver license at the front gate will receive FREE general admission — for your kids too! Remember all special promotions, tickets and Family Four Packs are only redeemable at the main front gate entrance. Pit passes cannot be purchased as an upgrade from a promo ticket, Family Four Pack, or a theme night. The Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints, Budweiser UMP Modifieds, Impact Sports Pure Stocks, and the Bessler’s U Pull & Save Hornets will be competing Saturday with racing scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm. This event will feature the standard Lawrenceburg payout of $1,500 to win and $225 to start the sprint feature, $100 tow money to all sprints that do not start the feature, and the “Grasshopper Award” – a $63 cash prize to the sprint feature hard charger courtesy of the Lawrenceburg Speedway Safety Crew. A trio of first time winners graced the Lawrenceburg Speedway last weekend with Cory Skipton (modifieds), Steve King (pure stocks), and Brandon Stephens (hornets) making their initial appearances in Budweiser Victory Lane. Although he had been there before, Nick Bilbee’s trip to victory lane was one of the quickest in track history. Bilbee ran one of the fastest Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint features ever at Lawrenceburg Speedway completing 25 nonstop laps around the 3/8th mile high banked oval in only 6 minutes 16.155 seconds, at an average speed of 90.202 mph! Bilbee’s fastest lap was 93.400 mph, but third place finishing Dickie Gaines topped that on lap 20 when he turned a lap of 94.259 mph. Promoter Dave Rudisell had the track fast all night as Joss Moffatt laid down a 95.510 mph lap on the final lap of the first heat. Gaines is the current Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint point leader with three top-5 finishes in the first three races of the season. Garrett Abrams is in the runner-up spot after a pair of fourth place finishes in the last two races. Abrams has been one of the fastest cars on track towards the end of each race and is knocking on the door for his first feature win at the Burg. Michael Fischesser, Bilbee and Moffatt, in a tie with Landon Simon, round out the top five. Re: May 12th - Lawrenceburg Speedway - Service Men & Women N
Not going to say a lot about car count or anything like that. It is what it is. Eldora running, A few guys strapped a wing on and went with BOSS at Atomic or Mowa, TSS, LPS and Paragon all running.
For 13 cars, That was one of the best dang features I ever seen. Moffatt and Miller duking it out for the first five laps or so until Joss took control up front, Abrams moving up steadily then battling with Miller for several laps before clearing then running down the full straight lead that Moffatt had built up. Westerfeld slowly works his way to third. About lap 17 or so Moffatt and Abrams raced hard with Abrams clearing on lap 19, Moffatt wouldn't go away and pulled along side a few times and a 22nd lap yellow brought Westerfeld into the mix. The last three laps were Abrams leading with Moffatt pulling along side entering the corners. Well on the last two turns of the final lap, Moffatt took the slide for life and cleared Abrams into four. I guess Joss was a little too hot coming out of his slide and Abrams gunned back under him to win his first feature, Westerfeld was a close third and I actually thought he had a shot there on the last corner but Abrams took his line. Like I said last week, Abrams winning didn't surprise me a bit. But I was happy None the less for him. He got big cheers. It was a honest too goodness dog fight with no cherry pickers, just locals running hard. One of the better features I've seen. We missed Bilbee but understand a wedding or graduation. Fischesser ran Buddy Lowther's car as he had motor problems that knocked him out at Eldora last night, Thanks Buddy for that. Hankins looked good and Cummings was the Grasshopper hard charger in honor of BC. Also Cooley was fast in his heat and early on in the feature was a contender with Moffatt and Miller. See you next week for BOSS at the BURG. Then WoO Memorial Day and then USAC Midget Week which few doubt that last years may have been one of the greatest features ever. |
