Re: Sprint Week / Gas City ?

It's not on Gas City or USAC schedules and I have seen no pressers announcing location from either.

Re: Sprint Week / Gas City ?

Neither have I, so if they're having it, they need to get the word out.

cwfan08 5/3/18 11:41 AM

I don't believe it has been announced yet. There was a link floating around with the original posting being Sept of last year. After Jerry leased gas city the sprint week date went away. I really hope gas city gets it. It's been there for so long.

I was told USAC will be making an announcement soon, about the July 20th date!

chrismattlin 5/3/18 2:56 PM

Semi-permanent dirt track inside turn 3 at IMS. Should be an amazing thing for USAC.

Maybe they are waiting for the response from the the racing events this weekend at plymouth. Lol.

Sprints fan 11 5/4/18 6:17 PM

A guy can hope and dream that it would be at Indy-the track, but if they were going to announce Indy I would think they (Indy) would of by now... I would say Indy could really pack them in and help sport but prob not likely. But then at Ocala they said it would put you in awe when announced. Just don't see why they have not announced it yet.

There's an Easter Egg on the 2018 usac national sprint schedule T-Shirt regarding this date...

Don't book any hotels in Gas City

I just finished watching the IndyCar GP on TV. ABC. Absolutely horrific coverage, but that goes w/o saying. Don't even get me started there.

But for all of you who are wondering what I am talking about, it was the IndyCar race at IMS today on the road course.

I saw no evidence of any action that has taken place inside of Turn 3 for a dirt track. If they are going to do it, they better do it quick, and they will have to circumvent the 500 crowd in a few weeks.

And referencing brsteg: "Don't book any hotels in Gas City." I didn't even know there were hotels in Gas City! :)

After going to the USAC show last week I’m not sure why Plymouth shouldn’t get the ISW date.

Can anyone think of anything that wasn’t good there last week??

Seems like the is a lot of interest from us fans and teams.
I get the feeling that just maybe USAC might have a surprise up their sleeves on what track it might be and don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet.
Guess will all just have find out when they decide to announce that race date and track.
Maybe it's a track they haven't raced at in some time.
Now it would be night if they would drop a few hints here and there.

I thought I remembered something about Current tracks with Sprint Week dates have a say on if others can have one.. Indiana Sprint week didn't start as USAC. I believe it ran about ten years or more before USAC and even was winged a year or two.

The venue for the opening night will be announced after the 500.

If you are going to the USAC races this weekend, look on the back of the schedule T-shirts.

I was asked to not broadcast.. but I had to tease.. and at least say don't make plans for Gas City.

I am tipping the Indiana State Fairgrounds. 25 laps.

Stages 1 and 2 are five laps each. Stage 3 is 15 laps. They will also use restrictor plates. Michael Waltrip will give his expert opinion during stage breaks.

Hari-kari knives will be issued to all fans over 40 years old.

I know for sure... I was asked very politely and very seriously not to post anywhere. But it is on the USAC Schedule T-Shirt if you are at the races this weekend. It is not Gas City.

Was told an announcement would be officially made after the 500.

Babbfan 5/18/18 2:05 PM

So since it was rained out tonight, do we get a little sneak peak of the shirts?!!

Re: Sprint Week / Gas City ?

If somebody is having it, It's kind of a messed up way to promote it as people schedule their vacations and travel-hotels months in advance.

At very minimum USAC should say there is, or isn't a race on that date as it was on the schedule when it came out as TBD.

opnwhlmnd 5/18/18 8:34 PM

Re: Sprint Week / Gas City ?

It's kind of obvious that it will be on a dirt track inside of turn 3 at IMS.

.

Sprints fan 11 5/19/18 4:55 PM

So if it is after the 500 it will be at the track. They don't have to advertise much. Bound to get 10,000 easy. Have some entertainment could get 20,000

Gas City has not been there from the start. They were added in the 90's.

I was thinking it was even later than that. Maybe 2002.

All Sprintweek races should pay 10k to win and 1k to start. JMHO but paying the regular purse seems cheap for the show these guys put on for 7 nights.

I have thought this for several years now.

I know Burg put up 10k to win a few times rest was standard though. I think.

Today at Indy speedway USAC had a plane flying around track promoting the upcoming USAC races at THAT,Indiana State Fairgrounds, and O'Rieley raceway park. Never seen anything like this at IMS in the past. Could this be a hint for USAC getting their name out there in front of all those attending IMS ?

I get what you saying and think it would be nice, but last year at Gas City was the smallest Sprintweek crowd I have seen since USAC came on board. I bet they lost $25,000 or more. If everyone supported the races they could pay more. I think ticket prices can't go up too much or we will start losing people. Tough situation

That was a bad situation though. Rained out Friday, ran Kokomo Saturday then trucked 150 miles south to Lawrenceburg on Sunday. Then turn around and go 150 miles back to the north to Gas City on a Monday, that's just one of the reasons the crowd could have been small. It's always a risk to take on a rain out date on short notice like that.
