Cockpit adjustable device
Ok not looking for opinions just fact. Local race tracks in Indiana, at a local show are you allowing cockpit adjustable shocks, or are you going by USAC’s new rule no cockpit adjustable device. Kokomo, Putnamville, Lawrenceburg, Haubstat/ MSCS, Gas City, Bloomington? What’s going to be the rule?
|
Ok just heard from Kokomo no cockpit adjustable shocks at regular shows. Can be adjustable just not cockpit. I forgot to put cockpit in original post.
|
Could you stretch the rules and mount the cable/knob outside the cockpit?
|
I would say as long as the driver has no way to access it during a race it would be ok
|
Well with the cost of motors and tire bill for x amount a night. This rule of no cables will sure save us a bunch of money and really drop the cost of sprint car racing.

I think they are trying to keep rule consistent from track to track, and series to series. Put it back in the drivers hands, instead of who can make the most adjustments during a race.

Re: Cockpit adjustable device
Most everyone already has shocks and adjusters in the car so not cost savings there and only a few now how to adjust them the correct way to start with. The electronic wheel bleeders is a expense to everyone since they where not allowed to begin with not a cost savings there and has for the seats I am hearing that any seat over 2 years old will have to be replaced so where does any of the new usac rules make any sense and save money for anybody.
|
I hope no other tracks follow along. This is a non value added change. It doesn’t make racing cheaper. It doesn’t help the little guy. We all already have adjustable shocks. Now the guys that do not race as often are at a disadvantage because we’re less likely to hit the setup right on any given night compared to a guy running 60 races a year.
Let’s ban those expensive bleeder kits or make you keep the same RR tire on all night. That’ll lower cost and make it easier on the little guy. |
But will it affect results?
I say absolutely not. The same guys that ran up front last season will run up front again. If they made a rule of 4 non adjustable pros, Courtney, Grant, KTJR, Windom and the rest will still be battling at the front. |
NATIONAL SERIES
Date: JANUARY 1, 2018 ALL NATIONAL SERIES Digital bleeders are allowed. Air may not be introduced to the tire. Bleeders may not be controlled remotely. Full containment seats mandatory beginning May 1, 2018. Beginning in 2019 all seats must meat SFI 39.2 specifications. Silver Crown Series Tire options for events in 2018 remain the same as 2017 National Sprint Suspension adjustments by the driver from the cockpit will not be permitted. Front axle tethers will be mandatory beginning May 1, 2018. Hoosier will make 94/14.0 available in RD12 compound. |
I can’t see where money savings is the reason for the changes.
Also, as I understand it, the seat rule and tether rule is driven by Eldora Speedaway (new track rule). |

I'm like Grumpy Racer and his original post opinions are important but he is just asking which local track are going to follow in USAC's footsteps with this rule. |
Worthy of noting that the front axle tether rule is the same as the Outlaws per Levi. Radius rod location and king pin to king pin tethers are required after April.
|
The driver adjustable rule changes were not made for the purpose of saving racers money. The intent was to try to even the playing field somewhat in hopes of attracting more cars to show up to the National events. I don’t understand why so many guys are all upset about it.
|
Because it wont change anything everyone already has the cables and knobbs . The electronic bleeders however will effect the show because there more efficient & more expensive ,plus there isnt anyway for them to police the remote adjustable part .

Personally, I’d be more worried about other digitally controlled parts on some cars more than bleeders. |

Axle tube is too easy to check. I’m going to put mine inside the wheels haha

There should be no adjustments at all in the cockpit, that's what a driver is for. Any and all knob twisting should be done in the pits, especially any driver tuning that might be called for. :6: As for digital bleeders, if regular bleeders are allowed also who cares. p.s. I'm not saying the guys that posted before me suck, I'm pretty sure the dude aint setting up a tire inflation system as I type. But there are guys out there with even stupider things bouncing around in they're heads. |
Re: Cockpit adjustable device
There are no remote control bleeders.

How do think it will save money??
