sprint mania

Has fairbury canceled yet? Website hasn't posted anything yet.

chathamracefan 10/7/17 5:35 PM

It is still on as of now. I was going to go but backed out of a 2 hour drive with the weather like it is.

Nascardan 10/7/17 5:37 PM

Re: sprint mania

Not cancelled yet. My brother is at track and has been told a decision will be made after 5. They are making a strong effort to hold the race

sprintcarjim 10/7/17 5:51 PM

I've got a friend there, said it stopped raining, and there are lots of cars in the pits.

oppweld 10/7/17 5:58 PM

How many non wingers?

sprintcarjim 10/7/17 6:10 PM

Engine heat 7pm hot laps 7:30 racing at 8pm. Joey Saldana, is in the house. Don't know what the car count is, just been told, lots of cars.

sprintcarjim 10/7/17 6:12 PM

Does anyone know if they have a curfew at the track?

dirtgirl67 10/7/17 6:18 PM

I heard no curfew from track

sprintcarjim 10/7/17 7:26 PM

Thanks. Decided not to go, deer hunting in the morning. Probably should have went.

Re: sprint mania

Pits are darn near full of cars. Seen a pic where Sunshine was already there and unloaded.

FALS doesn't have a curfew. The whole town supports the race track and the fairgrounds. On Saturday nights darn near the whole town is there unless their working. The track has an atmosphere almost like Eldora does. If USAC ever got a race there it would be crazy good. Ballou would love this place. It's not like Eldora where it's black slick and hard to pass. FALS will guarantee a gnarly coushion. Track stays wet all night with maybe a lite dusting of water before a-mains.

bmemmer 10/7/17 9:29 PM

What I really wanna know is if KT Jr made it?! He left haubstadt at 6 and its a 3 hour and 55 minute drive without a hauler lol. 👀

Ballou is at Fairbury................

chathamracefan 10/7/17 9:31 PM

He is not here yet that I have seen.

chathamracefan 10/7/17 9:32 PM

Josh Hodges did arrive per the War Facebook page.

bmemmer 10/7/17 9:36 PM

Holy ****!! So they tagging the tail of the b I guess or have they not stared heat races yet?

chathamracefan 10/7/17 9:39 PM

Just started hot laps.

Wallsracing 10/7/17 10:08 PM

Yes he booked it after Haubstadt got rained out and went to Fairbury

illinifan 10/7/17 10:17 PM

Didn’t see Hodges or KTJ out for hotlaps. Ballou, DD and Sunshine are here. Unbelievable race track! Saldana, Macedo, Philo, Balog and Loyet are notables in the wings. Rained hard here but track crew worked through it and it’s one bad momma tonight

SpfldMile 10/7/17 10:26 PM

I left because I work early tomorrow, but I’m gonna hate myself for doing so.

Dirtfan 10/7/17 11:19 PM

KTJR & Hodges DNS their heat races.

chathamracefan 10/7/17 11:25 PM

They have both arrived and will tag the tail of the b.

bmemmer 10/7/17 11:59 PM

I was going to say. I thought the same thing when haubstadt rained out. But I looked up fairbury and it was 3 hours and 55 minutes. Take that with all the stop lights on 41 and getting out of the parking lot I figured it was wiser saving money and staying home tonight

illinifan 10/8/17 12:06 AM

Well KTJ and Hodges made it. Started 14th and 15th and finished 1 and 3. Should be a pretty good show!

chathamracefan 10/8/17 12:09 AM

Ktj won b from 14th. Hodges got 3rd from 15th. Winged a getting ready to start. Saldana and schuerenburg front row.

Thanks for the updates.

Jerry

chathamracefan 10/8/17 1:01 AM

Carson Macedo goes from 3rd to 1st on last lap to win winged over Saldana and hunter s

illinifan 10/8/17 1:06 AM

What an incredible race! FALS track is a top notch facility and an incredible racing surface! Great race. Saldana lead the first 34 laps, Macedo got him comin out of two on last lap, Hunter Schurenburg ran third. Hunter was in 2nd the whole race and even took the lead twice but returned to second on two yellow flags.

Re: sprint mania

I made a 170 mile round trip this afternoon, even though I was looking at a radar that looked terrible, because I thought there might be a chance I would get to see a race. Now, I'm up at 2 am, watching my computer screen, as other people describe a race they're watching, on IOW and Twitter, hanging on the edge of my seat. No, I don't have a racing problem.:5:

By all accounts, it sounds like these folks that went to Fairbury tonight, got more than their money's worth. That track's definitely on my list.

Re: sprint mania

WAR Facebook says Ballou won.

chathamracefan 10/8/17 8:55 AM

Ballou won. Courtney got caught up in heavy lapped traffic and flipped with 4 to go. Darland ended up 2nd. Joe B Miller 3rd and Landon Simon 4th. Both features were really good.

ISF 10/8/17 10:14 AM

Sunshine was in the process of a big slider in 1 & 2 and wheeled K.T. Jr. (KTJ was a lap car) and flipped. All this took place while Sunshine was leading in the later stages of the A-main.

This show was a superbly splendid night/early morning of dirt open wheel racing. As I've said many times here we live only 40 minutes from Fairbury and they just began to run open wheel divisions 2 years ago after a very long time of hosting nothing but fendered cars. I believe Fairbury has made some significant inroads into top quality open wheel racing. Given the high quality of the dirt open wheel competition at FALS and the nearly flawless track prep and great show management can USAC be in Fairbury's future?! I certainly hope so!! Double D and The Madman had glowing praise for the whole Fairbury experience in their podium interviews. Thanks to Fairbury for a very good final night of our 2017 outdoor racing season of spectating. Sadly enough, we're all done until Du Quoin in December.

What time did it get done? How was the crowd at the end?

War Sprint A main was over shortly before 1 am. Mod feature done by 1:30. 90% were still there!

ISF 10/8/17 12:01 PM

Most stayed for the two sprint car A-main's but it pretty much cleared out following the POWRi/WAR A-main. That's when we left.

So for those that went to Fairbury; what's your overall impression of the racing and the facility?
We raced are Modifieds there most of the season. Just like to hear some Open Wheel folks thoughts.
