If You Had the Opportunity . . . . .

Now that racing season is almost over; look back at all the tracks you have been too this summer. If you could purchase any of them, which would you buy and why? What would you change or not? Go easy on our track owners, remember it's not easy pleasing teams, drivers, fans and everyone else ...:wink

Since I have only been to THAT this year, that would be easy.

Except I wouldn't change the promoting team, instead just join in on them (if I could). I would like to add some things.

1. a complete video/audio set up
a. a video set up with both operated and stationary cameras
b. a big video board around the center of the infield to display the camera views after being produced and recorded in a production booth.
c. videos would be for sale after the race is over

2. open air concerts on race days and on days not on race days
3. add other motorsport events
4. rebuild the tv tower in turn 1
5. other things that are small around the track.

Dave, as an outsider i must laugh wildly at your comments, as i have seen numerous people complain to you about everything on this board, and u just take it in stride and move forward with humor, its great. and if you build a walmart you should work at the service desk ,since you deal with customer complaints so well. maybe someone will complain about your prices on big screen tv's being 3 dollars more than the other guy..........u cant win lol.
Great event saturday A.J

Thanks. I get everything i deserve here, because i open myself up by even posting here. Not many promotors will do what i do. I don't look at the past, i am always looking to the future and am a positive thinker.
Lif is way too short to think negative.
Take care, and welcome to Wal-Mart:rolling

I would like to formally submit my entry for the 2009 World Shopping Cart Nationals:checkered:

I procured a very quick cart from the local Target parking lot, we'll just say it was a generous sponsorship deal on their part:O:

Re: If You Had the Opportunity . . . . .

I'd buy Shortbus a new bicycle to ride to THAT....

Motormasher a Wing so he'd shut the h*ll up about how wings are so much better.... and

Dave Rudisell a beer for getting back on here day in and day out listening to everyone. By the way nice meeting you behind Ricky Williams trailer when you were in the pace truck Sat.

My mom and dad a large RV for coming to all our races this season and cheering us on...

Danny Burton stock in notepads for the whole season..and Swordman a Bigger Sword to regulate Racefan20.

But honestly.... i'd just by more time to go racing....to see the people I call my friends...work at the track on our car and everything that come's with this sport

Re: If You Had the Opportunity . . . . .

i would buy bloomington speedway and put it back the way it was when it was a bigger track and then put a wall around it i think that would add to some already good racing. it now has the tendency on weekly shows to go to a one groove bottom track and i think that standing on the loud pedal around the top is an exciting thing to watch

Is the 2009 World Shopping Cart Nationals a traditional or winged event? Some east coaster’s want to know if their Cart's will be legal or not.:D

On a serious note, I’d buy Susquehanna Speedway. First I’d re-clay the track and tear down the front straight stands and put up a new one, and new restroom too.

I’d run a two card program of ARDC Midgets and Wingless 358 Sprints and Wingless Super Sportsman switching every other week. I would run on Sunday nights, and all divisions would race for 2k to win.

I would buy lawrenceburg and make it 24 hr 7days a week antique show.

Re: If You Had the Opportunity . . . . .

I'd buy Bunker Hill, make it a nice facility and run sprints on Saturday nights. That way, the guys up here in the northern half of the state would have Friday (Gas City), Saturday (Bunker Hill) and Sunday (Kokomo) options. Buying and improving Montpelier (or Warsaw or Shadyhill) and bringing the sprints back would accomplish the same thing.

If I bought Kokomo, I'd make the restrooms bigger and add stands in turn four as well as a second set of backstretch bleachers. I'd extend the season into late September/October by running Saturday night/Sunday day shows. I'd also explore the possibility of running midgets on Wednesday nights through the summer while school is out.

I would purchase Angell Park Speedway and do the following...

1) Annual mandatory vision exams for all officials. :O:
2) Force anyone with more than 500 posts on IOW to spend one day of rock picking while a volunteer firefighter supervised.
3) Pump out the port o let in the infield more than once prior to the Fireman's Nationals.
4) Force Hans to pit in turn four....just once. :rolling

Red Hill Raceway and just open the place again. It is a great facility sitting idle because of a p****ing match between the owner and the county. :headbang

I would buy Gas City.

I would do away with the goofy grandstands they have and put in seats that are way more roomy and comfortable than what they have now.

I also would put in a catch fence in 1 & 2 and build grandstands there. They draw great crowds and I am sure the extra seats would be filled for Sprint Week and other special events.

That track is an Awesome Track, we won there once when Wil Newlin drove for us. You could eat off the restroom floors which is more than I can say for alot of tracks especially in the pit area. Has Jim even raced anywhere this year? I kind of lost track of him. :)

If You Had the Opportunity . . . . . Well this is an interesting thread, if I did have it, I really like the motorhome deal. Maybe I would buy putucky, hire the crew I needed to make it a "class" facility, wouldn't change the bathrooms however:rolling
Would work with The Burg & Tri-State to have the best Sat Nite show known to us all.I envision several MMM$$$ to win. Maybe even a Sunday show?
Oh yea, I would definatly buy Shortbus a lifetime pass to ALL buffets and Wallsracing a brand new Bomber.Maybe a course in PR for the newest member of the IRL announcing team:)Oh yea,a lifetime supply of notepads for DB.
All in all,Thanks to "Hoosier" for starting this thread:thumb

Dan--I said be nice! What are we to do with you? You know the "real fine" track I would buy and the first person I would run off! :D My mommy always told me if I couldn't say anything nice not to say anything at all. :D That's why my husband carries around a roll of duct tape. :rolling:rolling

I would buy North Vernon make some much needed improvements and resurface it. I would run sprints on Sunday to give the guys a place to race in the south on Sunday. Could be such a great facility if it was taken care of. Who currently owns it?

I couldnt agree more kingmod....

I think Dave Allison actually owns it and Mason Fleetwood is the current promoter

If I was the King of the world. I would:
1) Buy Tri State
2) Buy a fleet of sprinters
3) Hire DC and JS
4) Hire the Fox Bros. to maintain the fleet
5) Have a 30 lap feature every night while drinking a cold cocktail and eating a hotdog.
6) Might occasionally take the team on the road. Most likely stay at home and enjoy my kingdom. When in a good mood, I might even open the place up to the public.

Wouldn't it be cool to be King of the World.

I'd purchase Eldora, and make it pre-Tony, give it back its personality. Take down the inside fence and find the keys to the water truck. Also buy a disc for the tractor. I remember when Earl would disc the track as soon as the feaure was over.

Boy do I miss Earl .

Bloomington Speedway I dont know why its just special to me I guess. I would put new grandstands on the hill and pitside. Add a flat area for the lawn chairs in the turns. get that big cushion back from the days gone bye man I miss those days!!!!!
