4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
Is this what all the complainers want to hear? Every night is not going to be a crowd pleaser but I would think eventually the promoter will toss in the towel and book another weekend of late models and modifieds for all the complaining. Just my thoughts.

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
Check some of the dirt late model boards and check out the wholesale bashing of the track prep for the World 100. It was uglier than anything posted here about the 4 Crown.
|
I was at the world 100, I personally will never want to miss another one!🏁🍺
|
I too was at the world and go fairly regularly and it's always good. I thought most critics of the 4 crown were positive for the most part. The crowd for the 4 crown was the biggest I've seen for the event and that was after last year's marathon night. Interesting comparison between the 2 is the late model tires don't seem to lay rubber down the same way that the open wheel cars do. The silver crown race, especially in 3 and 4 got the groove to groove and a half wide patch of rubber where if you got out of it, you're going to watch the train go by. The late models even at the end of the race were still all over the track

Another Monster Truck show wouldn't hurt.
Just kidding. Your entitled to your opinion. Most of us didn't bash, just stated what we seen as facts. I had a good time and YES, it could have been better and that's about the most anyone is asking for. I actually thought the crowd was down a bit from last year but none of us know the ticket sales. |

My personal favorite was last year when a guy was so trashed he couldn't understand why giving beer to little kids was getting him arrested. |
Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
I haven't and won't go to the bigger events since 2004 when a guy so drunk spilled beer over me and my gf and my brother and his wife then had the gall to badger us about steve kinser for two hours.. I tried to explain I like Kinser and everyone else out there. Oh no, Kinser is god, put your money where your mouth is. ya ya. Finally his friends put him at the other end of their group. It wasn't the first time for such a thing, but the worst and the last.

Went to the world for 1st time this year other than heat race with hudson oneal winning racing sucked too many people to many drunks I will stick to watching sprintcars there
|
I would think you could set up a discount dental office at the world and make a fortune.....
|
The Royal is just as bad for drunks.
It honestly has kept me away more than I’d like to admit. |
Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
Disagree with Charles about the crowd. My wife was talking about how big it was, and I feel it was the largest I had ever seen for this event.

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
I've not looked at every post, but what I think ppl are saying to Eldora, do something with the 4-crown that will make the show go faster, not so many laps in one day where the track will not stand up and put down rubber. I hear on this board how we have to get more ppl interested in open wheel racing. U can not expect man who takes his wife and two kids there and get them to set that long for a show like that. As you should of saw, many young & old just got up and headed home. Eldora is not going to cancel the 4-crown because it is a money maker today. What Eldora needs to worry about is, the car count next year and there after. I know several teams that did not go this year because of last year. If your a points racer, U will be there. If not, U may consider not to attend if this format continues. Eldora has changed. It is not Earl's place anymore. Not just a race track where U see a race and go home. It is a venue, a destination where U go to be entertained and entertain your self and who ever goes with U. The crowd is much younger now. When Eldora introduced the beer sack where U can carry 6 or more beers, it's a non stop drinking contest for many there, not to mention the full bar up top. That makes for way to heavy of drinking for many who need not drink.. I had to move one time because there was 8 drunks all around me. If I go again, I will seek out a non drinking section if they have one. One think I can say about Eldora, look at there staff there in all areas. Nothing but the best to make a well run business. With the crowds they draw, that is why U see so much racing at a great ticket price, reasonable pit passes, not to mention concession prices. Lets hope that the Big E makes some changes that will accommodate all of us next year for the 4- crown. If not, it will be your choice if U want to return for a long night of racing, good or bad as it might be. Yet to be determined. Just my thought.:22:

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
Ironic that last year everybody (including myself) were complaining about too much time spent on track prep, & this year people are complaining about poor track prep.
Don't know what to say, 4 Crown is a great idea, maybe they should do qualifying the nite before? Maybe build up the banking like "the good ole days" I've heard about but never witnessed? As for drunks, I just wish people knew when to stop... |
I think that all sporting events are down on attendance because of the lack of play money. Not in the budget to go spectate. I personally race at waynesfield raceway park and attendance has dropped a little bit over the last 5 years. Not all dirt tracks have the perfect race surface but most of the time it's the best racing that money can buy. I was at Eldora Friday night helping a street stock driver and the track was awesome. Wasn't there for the next night for the 4 crown so can't say much about the track that night.
|
The drunks used to congregate in the area between the seats and concessions. The Patio seats seem to have ended that. We are in Section E of the Patio and I have not witnessed any excessive drinking in our section or immediately in front of us. I have witnessed security escorting people out of the section to our left which is in front of the announcers booth. My wife said she witnessed a person being removed this year and I recall seeing the police taking a man out in handcuffs last year. Of all the tracks I have attended over the years, I believe that Eldora would have to rank at the top for excessive drinking. The only thing I can think of that might cause this is the large number of people who camp and have a lot of time on their hands and they drink to relieve the boredom.

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
Come to the Williams Grove Natty Open if you want to see excessive drinking. I"ve been to some big races at Eldora and seen some pretty drunk people, but not quite as many as at the Grove outlaw races. I like to enjoy a few beers at the races myself, I'm no saint. Like someone posted above, I wish people would know when to say when. Problem drinkers are one thing that keeps me from going to big events. I spent 12 days in the midwest this spring for some pretty big races and I didn't see anything like the drunken fans of PA. Sometimes I am ashamed of the fans of my home state.

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
BTW a USAC triple header at The Burg, might be a bit small for the Siver Crown cars but I'd be there!!!

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
Yes you can avoid some of the drunkies over on the front stretch. My reserved seat is on the top row of the backstretch though. Its quite a drunken guantlet getting to my seat there from the backstretch parking lot. Usually I find an idiot outlaw fan in my seat and the they usually are drunk and mouthy so things can get ugly. I decided to save myself some money and hassle so I will not attend the 3 day follow the leader slot car fest.

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
Would u guys prefer Eldora not run USAC races?
I understand if u don't want to attend a race, but ..... maybe constructive criticism with solutions might be more of benefit so the sport we all love, USAC open wheel thrives at Eldora. Even watching PPV on the west coast, IT"S TOO LONG A NIGHT OF RACING. One possible idea, skip qualifying, run it like the midgets did. I've been told, qualifying is harder on a track than heat races. Another solution, qualify, put the top 12 directly into the main, and rest run a last chance race. This was the format for Turkey Night at Ascot. Another idea, qualify the cars early in the day, redo track, and start heat races at 6 or 7. If I was a race fan with a family, I WOULD not likely attend this race. When I see families leave the races early because the night is too long, I cringe. I see a potential new fan (kids) not getting to see the best race of the night. ? for those that attended, how many families attend this race and do they stay all night. Seeing families at races is rarer and rarer with long nights and costs. |
Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
imo they either need to run qualifying at noon and completely rework the track then heats at 7-730 or run the wings and sc on 1 night and sprints and midgets on the other night

Re: 4 Crown Cancelled in 2018?
I think they are going to asphalt it & put 3 3 ft wide coke syrup grooves around the place. :3::5:

Sure I might get excited when I see good pass; clap, hoot and holler here and there, but I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary. I can confirm what others have said about PA and The Grove specifically but it wasn't anything that off-put me. |

Like the opener for Usac a couple of years ago that they called a rainout (that really needs an asterisk beside it) & it was not 90 degrees that day, that was just down right wrong.
Now why could they not dish the middle of the track out ? |
