Anyone know why they're running so far behind?

axman775 9/23/17 5:56 PM

Heat and sun. I feel a dust bowl tonight.

Heat races just taking track.

Quick way around is running the wall.......the pit wall. Look forward to this race all year, love this place, but do they ever test a fan's loyalty.

The second sprint heat SOUNDS like a good race....

Boy did Ballou give it to Stewart in his post race interview after finishing 3rd via the PPV on the Eldora Website.

Everything is great at Eldora, except the track

Kydehart 9/24/17 3:27 AM

Perhaps I'm the only one, but I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 crown weekend. It seems everyone is quick to bash eldora, but it's a great facility with great events and I think the let's race two weekend in may and 4 crown are two of the best bang for your buck nights of racing anywhere. . No track has great races every night and I think they tried but they got dealt a bad hand with the unseasonably hot day we had. Not to mention last year they were bashed for fixing the track so they were probably keeping that in the back of their mind and kept pushing everything through. Not the greatest racing tonight but I definitely don't feel cheated or that it was a bad event. And Robert ballous postrace interview was worth the price of admission. Also got lucky enough to accidentally sit next to flagboy so thanks to him for providing some knowledgeable conversation through the races. Hope to see you at the track again soon.

I actually thought the track held up ok considering the weather conditions and the amount of cars and races. Thought they kept it moving along pretty good. Didn't think the race was as good as the Friday race in the spring. I have no complaints.

There was a wall...the weather really killed them, as mr. Funk has stated. I thought they did about as well as could be expected with it and enjoyed the racing. Holly Shelton made the midget race, tmez was moving forward in the sprints and then bacon made it interesting for Leary at the end. Nice to see bacon get his first ASCoC win and sunshine get his first champ car win. I'd watch silver crowns race around a cornfield. Kudos to joss moffatt and the Williams team. Put that car back together after his crash and he ran really well in the feature, I thought. Well done all around. I had fun and will be back in May for let's race two.

That Friday spring race was fantastic. Be hard to beat that one but I agree with you 100%

The USAC race was won on the top. The wing cars run the bottom, even though Bacon didn't, he was on the top. I think the wing cars are more of the reason than the track. They are too hooked up. If you never have to lift all the way around, the shortest way will be the fastest.

I hate asking but what time did the last race get over?

I hate to ask but what did Robert Ballou have to say in victory lane. Could not make it last night. I'm sure that he will get a call from earl baltus after this weekend. Lol. Thanks.

I'm not exact on time but i think around 1am. I got home 30 miles west of St Louis at 7AM central time and even talked with friends for about 45 minutes after the races. I was pleased with the night it was 95 degrees with a 10-15 mph wind all day did anyone really expect it to be wet and tacky?

He basically called it a pavement track and was kind of mad he sold the pavement stuff 5 years ago. He had a call from Stewart back in May after his comments in a magazine and Tony said to him he will have the biggest and best cushion in Eldora Speedway history and it didn't turn out that way. It was slick as $h!t.

Exactly what I was going to say, down to the 2 hour drive home.

Only complaint I would have is I wish they would have started earlier. Family conked out on me before the All Star main.

Other than that, thought they did the best prep they could with the weather conditions and the pounding the track took.

I think it's time to move the outlaws to Thursday and run the rest Friday and Saturday.

how did they "used" to do it? Q & heats on Friday and then a quick hotlap & feature races on Saturday? Sounds like a good concept...as long as it's gona be a FOUR Crown...jmho...

It first started (1981) as qualifying and heats on Saturday and B mains and features on Sunday afternoon. Then went to qualifying and heats on Friday....B mains and features on Saturday. I remember one year (maybe 92 or 93) when they qualified on Thursday, heats on Friday and the B mains and features on Saturday. I also remember when the fastest 6 qualifiers were locked into the feature and didn't have to run a heat race.

Ballou called him out on this after the feature.

Cowboy, are you sure about that? As I recall, and memory ain't what it used to be, but I thought it was Friday and Saturday prelims and qualifications and the features were Sunday afternoon. I might be mistaken but I remember plenty of daytime features, I think :32:

Late 80s with the Late Models we ran fri-sat and sunday was consi's and features. Remember one fri night qualifications was rained out and we started at 11am with hot-laps on Saturday and got done at 11pm with all the hot-laps, qualifying and heats.

I know not that many years ago they qualified the Silver Crown Cars on Friday and ran WoO as Crown 1. Then everything else Saturday. I don't see a real reason why they could qualify the Crown cars and Midgets on Friday night and save that time Saturday.

May knock a few guys from racing a Sprint on Friday night, but I don't know how many did that this year anyway.

Then all you have is 4 hot lap sets and 2 divisions to qualify.

Other than it doubles the cost of lodging for many teams.

Can't be positive but I do remember when we won the sprint car portion (with Dave Darland) of the 4 crown in 1999 we qualified on Friday night and raced on Saturday night. We also had a Silver crown car (with Jac Haudenschild) and also qualified on Friday and raced on Saturday night. I do remember it being Sunday features in either 89 or 90 as I had to work Sunday morning and left to get to Eldora by noon. I remember also that the Thursday night qualifying wasn't a success at all....might have been 100 spectators there. Dick Jordan would have all of this info.

Left disappointed for the second year in a row. Racing was fine, it was just really slick, and I do mean really slick, after being hammer down on Friday night. Has to be a medium ground in there somewhere. Ballou would have been happy as hell Friday night when Tony was there. Best race of all the features was the Stock Cars on Friday night. Other than that, 1 pass for the lead in five features in two nights....ughhh and that was on lap 2 of the USAC sprint race.
