Who will be driving these cars

With the Amati 66 being open and now the Mike Dutcher 17, who will be the new drivers?

flagboy55 7/24/16 10:35 PM

I have to say I'm surprised by the lack of success with the Dutcher car this season, as well as the parting of TMEZ and the 66. Just an idea but if they are looking for young talent, they might want to consider Spencer Bayston. He seems to be a star in the making. Probably committed to the midget program, but I think it would be worth a call

pepprdig 7/24/16 10:36 PM

I'm a Justin grant fan, I'd love to see him in a good car again

rightfootrampage 7/24/16 10:45 PM

Maybe time to get Dakota jackson in good equipment for once? If you want young talent that is.

streetglider 7/24/16 10:51 PM

Of course go with Spencer ! Another golden boy that hasn't earned a stripe. He's driven nothing but the best equipment around. Ever seen him show up anywhere with his OWN car or equipment ????? Enough said !!!! Heck even Charlie Sarver could win with the cars Bayston has driven.
Oh wait ... Charlie owned & worked on his own stuff.

openwheelfan1 7/24/16 11:31 PM

Silly season sure is starting early in the Indiana sprint season! TMez, Justin Grant, and C J Leary have all left or been released from their rides in the last two weeks. It will be interesting to see who winds up where when the merry-go-round music stops. Although I like him as a driver, I can't see Jon Stanbrough remaining in the Amati #66 car through season's end. It will definitely be interesting to watch.

flagboy55 7/24/16 11:42 PM

Dog gone glider, you sound bitter. It's funny, people sometimes belly ache about the KKM car's having an unfair advantage. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, and I'm sure money and ******** are involved somewhere, but that's the world we live in. I would submit also that somewhere along the line they evaluate talent as well, and the record shows they have an eye for it. I'm for the underdog too, but I don't give a damp if someone drove their own car or not, or if they built it from the ground up, and know every bolt and nut. If I own a car that I think can win, and looking for a young driver that I think can fill the bill, I would give Spencer a call. I mean, I don't recall Jeff Gordon ever driving junk, but I do recall seeing him win a lot. BTW, I have never met Spencer Bayston so I don't have any reason to endorse him other than what I see as his potential to win races, which as a car owner is what I'm looking for

Re: Who will be driving these cars

There are a number of drivers out there deserving of good rides. As mentioned above I'd like to see Dakota in a top notch ride.

Two guys that I've been very impressed with are Josh Hodges, already picked up a win at Kokomo against some of the best in the sport and held his own during ISW. Also, Tyler Thomas. For a guy that just stepped into a sprint in June. He's already got a win as well and also made the main in all but 1 ISW race I believe. If these two keep gaining experience I think both will be very deserving of a top ride in the future.

Personally, if I owned a car I'd put T-Mez in it.

What a silly post. Spencer is what? 18 at most? The kid is a heck of a gasser for how young he is.

I wouldn't pay any mind to that post. It's the same individual who recently said Kody Swanson didn't have any "ballz" in a separate thread, only to retract that view when Kody himself commented and Justin Grant offered his 2 cents as well. I guess he expects drivers to decline the opportunity to drive with KKM so they can build their racing careers in a more "respectable" fashion according to him. Evidently he's unaware that even with the high dollar teams, the cars don't drive themselves. Any sensible person who has watched Bayston drive can recognize the talent.

hoosier race fan 7/25/16 8:48 AM

These topics always go really well.

streetglider 7/25/16 9:22 AM

I will stand by my post. Nobody questioned how mov of a guy Spencer is , or even his talent for that matter. But I will say this... Guys like Darland , Elliott , Tray House , Joe Roush , Gary Fisher came from the school of hard knocks. Maybe you have heard of them. They earned every bit of respect that they got. They weren't just 18 years old showing up with a helmet bag.
Am I old school ? Absolutely and I won't apologize for that.

xoxide 7/25/16 9:38 AM

If by "old school" you mean crotchety old man who never has something positive to say and always posts from a glass half empty perspective then yes, you are 110% correct sir.

So if you drive for your family or help finance a ride that you have....you can't ever get another ride that you don't pay for? Seems a little rough. Good thing Foyt didn't have to live by those rules when he started.

Drivers get hired and fired all the time. Racings been like that forever! Unless you've got skin directly in the game, who's to say who should not be in a ride. Me I'm just happy there are owners out there pouring their soul and hard earned money into the sport!

Scott42 7/25/16 11:57 AM

Someone give JT Stapp a shot!

I'm sure Brandon Mattox, JJ Hughes, AJ Hopkins, Dakota Jackson, Josh Hodges, Kyle Robbins would all do a good job for those teams if they got a shot at it! They do a good job with there own low budget stuff! Who ever they put in those cars both have one sweet rides! Good Luck to both of these really good teams the rest of the season!

I'll vote Billy in!

I find it interesting that the thread started with "if they want young talent". After that it has been a succession of suggestions on who that should be. What if the owners want experience. I suspect each owner will select the best driver available who gives them a shot at wins while protecting their equipment. I believe these owners are at a few races and probably have a good idea of the talent out there without direction from us keyboarders.

I heard from a good friend that, TBA would be in the 66 car.

Now I like that one, Kyle Robbins has been out there doing it on his own with his dad for as long as I can remember. :6:

C'mon now; if there's one thing we're experts on it's driving talent. That and track prep, promotion, scheduling, tire rules.....:3::17:

I find it interesting that on this message board that it seems people regularly come on here and act as if we are not entitled to an opinion. We are all entitled to whatever opinion criticism or cracked pot idea we feel we want to share to start or continue conversation. Otherwise there is no need for Indiana Open Wheel.

Now that is rich flagboy ! Are you not the same guy that blasted me & said I was bitter for voicing my opinion ?

leftturnonly 7/28/16 8:54 AM

Talent is talent whether in your own stuff or someone eleses After being around racing for 60+ years Baysten is talent.

flagboy55 7/28/16 9:45 AM

Street glider, I suggest you re-read my post. I simply explained my stance and used Jeff Gordon as an example. Never did I say you were wrong on not entitled to your opinion. If suggesting that you sounded bitter is blasting you then I stand guilty as charged
