4 crown thoughts
Well my favorite event of the year is upon us. I love the 4 crown and was at the first one and been to most of them since. I'll ask your wisdom on picks later but, would like to know if there are any other fans that look forward to it as much as I do? Love to hear your opinion on the event. The only bad thing about it is it kinda throws the white flag on Midwest racing season. Iow fans, let me know your thoughts on the 4 crown nationals!
|
Love the event. Hate the lack of track prep. After the WoO show they seem to let the track go leading to dry slick conditions even before qualifying. And yea, I'll be there in spite of the conditions.....it is the only night to catch all 3 series.
|
The people who will be there will watch one of USACs all time greats turn what are most likely his last laps at Eldora.
|
Hewitt ran last year.
|
I think Scott is talking about Tracy Hines!

Re: 4 crown thoughts
I wish they would go back to the original format. Practice and qualifying on Friday, heats and semis on Saturday and run four features on Sunday afternoon. That was a great weekend. No late night endings and I was home by 5:30 on Sunday.(Live in Indy)
|
That was fun Don. I don't see that happening again unless you go back to the days when they had 40 plus sprint cars, 30 plus big cars and midgets. They can always get enough mods. Unfortunately the midget count has not been up to snuff, but fortunately it hasn't hurt the quality of the racing.
Is Tracy talking about hanging out up? Always been a fan of his and he has always been real good at Eldora |
I also agree with you guys about the track prep or lack thereof. We got lucky last year as mother nature helped out with rain in the afternoon. I was there a couple weeks ago for the world 100, and even though the track wasn't heavy the track took the cushion up to the fence. It raced a lot more like vintage Eldora, where the fast way was round the top with sliders all over the place
|
I think your in for a surprise this year in track prep. It's a dam if you dam if don't thing, if they go out and rework during the show to make it better all you hear is we didn't pay to see a tractor show. Just see how it goes this year

Re: 4 crown thoughts
I looking forward to going to my 1st 4 crown been talking about going for years just never made the trip. Should be a blast being around my racing family! Let the track prep issue go guys! Your At A Racetrack don't get any better than that! Have fun everyone because I know that I will!! :):6::32:
|
I don't complain too much about track prep. My only concern is the track getting a one lane rubber groove in the middle. That is one thing about back when they ran the features on Sunday, a lot of times the track would take rubber during the silver crowns then it becomes a pavement race, Stay in line or the train goes by. As long as they can keep that from happening, I can deal with the rest

Re: 4 crown thoughts
What kind of car counts do you expect for this event? Kicking around options for the weekend and just wondering what they usually draw out there.

That's just my guess, but come and enjoy it, you'll have no regrets.

Re: 4 crown thoughts
One of my favorite shows. Wish I could be there this year but it was a choice between the 4 Crown & the last Super Dirt Week at the NY Fairgrounds Mile. Next year I'll be back at Eldora.

As long as the dust gets blown off.....we all have our opinions...most like hammer down against a perfect cushion....Me, I will take a strip of rubber, a small build up of fluff against the wall, fast drivers using balls and talent, slide it in, slight contact right rear to concrete, back on the throttle, all is good with the world for a few minutes on a Saturday night....90% of the time that is what you get at the 4Crown!!
|
Another thing we got going for us is no ascoc race scheduled Friday. I would think that should make for a real nice field with the wings Friday night.

Re: 4 crown thoughts
I love this event! I attended the first year, when it was a two day event. I only went to the features, which were run on a Sunday afternoon. The ticket price was the same whether you attended one or both days. That was changed the next year, after much complaining about the policy. I attended during the period when it was a three day, a two day and whatever. I attended the Friday night WoO show last year as well. First time I had seen a winged car at Eldora. I attended the first WoO finale in 1978, but they didn't have wings then. The WoO show was nothing spectacular, and I decided it was not worth a return visit. I will be there in my usual patio seats on Saturday night. Last year, the rains came on Saturday and the features were run on Sunday afternoon. Lots of torn up cars, but the racing was good. I believe we wound up with something like eight midgets running, but it was a great race. Biggest downer of all was the concession stand running out of pizza steaks (burgers) on Sunday. Those things are unbelievably popular! Fortunately, the fans were understanding, and the National Guard did not have to be summoned!

This will only be my 2nd time going but it's two in a row!!
My brother begged me to join he and the fam for years then the stars finally aligned w/ my schedule to allow it to happen. It's appointment racing from now on. I won't make it til late Friday night but I'll get an added bonus of watching my niece run the .25 Saturday afternoon. Family+dirt racing+Eldora= No brainer |
Re: 4 crown thoughts
I truly envy all of you who will be at Eldora this coming weekend!!!:27:
The 4 Crown is the only opportunity all season long that allows fans to see all three of USAC's National Series in action.:8: Hope everyone has a great time!:6: |
I see where BC is running Friday with wings, and sprints and midgets Saturday. Wish I had a good champ car to offer him. Wouldn't you think someone would?

The Halfmoon Spencer racing 66j will be there to have some fun and hopefully turn the season around. Stop and grab the 2015 Josh Spencer tee shirt for the low price of $15 dollars at the trailer or at the autograph session, was not sure if we were going to make the autograph deal due to Josh daughter soccer game but we are going to bust butt to make it.
Thank you to all the fans for your support of Eldora, U.S.A.C. all the drivers and crew's and to Josh Spencer open wheel fans are the best. Be safe and have fun. Jerry #66j stida.com / Halfmoon Resturant & Brewery / Colescotts Mobil-1 |

66 and Scott both have points. As a fan, I think we deserve an honest effort to prepare a track for the best possible show. Foremost a track that is racy, and also the least amount of dust to the crowd. I believe it was Charles who has mentioned a couple times about the race at benton county a few years ago. He's right, the racing was superb, but very very dusty. I'm pretty used to it and was able to get through it, but some less seasoned fans who went with us were covering up more than watching. What good is great racing if you can't see it?

Re: 4 crown thoughts
Rough estimate around what time does this show normally get over each year? Thinking I need to make the trip over but have to work at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

I would love to see late models again, but why drop the outlaws? I went to the world's 100 this year after a long long absence. I've always said that the heat races for that are worth the price, and as intense as it gets. Here's my rub. All those great moves and and hard driving are on display at the 4 crown, without fenders! If you would rather see late models over the woo, your not paying attention to winged sprint cars at all. Maybe not for the win, but there's hair raising moves through out the race, and at the big E, 2.5 seconds faster per lap!
|
You gotta drop something if you add late models, 4-crown. i love the outlaws just like to see 4 big features on Saturday night, would be great.
