Where did you end up in 2009?

I know this is a little late, but I just finished tallying my 2009 race count. I know I am nowhere near Andrew Quinn, Spridge, Mowerman or Areo, but felt I had a pretty good year. Just wondering where everyone else ended up. I ended up with 76 races in 8 states. My count was helped by very few rainouts and 2 tracks within 35 miles of my house. Let me know how you did.

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

4 states 52 races, only one was non sprint. Count up the 15 rainouts I had schedualed........

Pretty good for me, My traveling all over the country days were in the 80s

Down a little bit this year but still managed to hit 75 races in 6 states. A real good year as I mentioned in another thread. Looking forward to 2010.:6:

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

I'm off a bit from 2008 when I made my goal of 100 races. I didnt count this last year, but I must have been to at least 90 or so in 9 states.

My work schedule is not conducive to being a race fan so many nights I didnt get much sleep with a 4am work time start. Many nights I just drove to work and slept in the parking lot for a couple hours if I was lucky, and one night just 40 minutes after a late night in Macon.Indiana Sprintweek was pretty sleepless as well. Trying to catch up on sleep each afternoon also cut into social time.

New tracks for me included 34 Raceway in West Burlington Iowa, which I went to from Bloomington Speedway,(about a 6 hour drive) and a rainout there early in the afternoon. Also checked out the weekly non wing races at Rock Rapids in Iowa,a couple days before they rained out for the TnT race there. While up in that neck of the woods I stopped in to Jackson Minnesota for their weekly 360 winged races for something different. Also got to a couple of fairgrounds tracks here in Indiana for the MTQRL 3/4 midget races that were held on weeknights.

All in all Indiana isnt a bad place to live if you wanna go see a lot of races.

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

Only 41 this year. Down from the usual 60-70. Between my mom's illness and my wife's ongoing medical issues the total was lower.

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

Hit up 41 races at 8 different tracks in Indiana Ohio and Florida. Not to bad being on a college budget but helps being on the schools race team thats for sure lol. Only down side was only 1 nonwing and 3 midget races. Lots of 360's and world of outlaws 7 nights.

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

Not enough BTF! My "highlight" of 2009 was to be the TNT tour, but after driving all the way to Rock Rapids, it was rained out, but wait a minute the dude there said at eleven in the morning the Knoxville Nationals were rained last night, so our crowd will be down tonight, its too wet here to race.Hmmm.Ass^&(#. On to Lincoln which was great, except for the Demon getting burnt:7: That place paid off in $2.00 bills, how neat. Then to State Fair Speedway, that place is great, glad I got to see a race there.
Sapalpa was next, same guy says yes we are racing tonight, not. On to KC & Lakeside, this made the trip worthwhile, got to spend time with alot of teams, owners, and to see some great racing.
Think we might do the eastern USAC swing this year, time will tell. All in all anytime I can watch sprint cars race on dirt and visit with friends is a plus:6:

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

Three states, 17 different tracks and 59 "events" I am including practices in those and qualifying (at IMS). There were some nights that I was able to shoot at two different tracks. We had a whole bunch of rain outs in the late summer/fall. My travel for the ol' day job put the screws to some racing, too. The only WoO sprint car appearance in Houston happened when I was out in Istanbul and I missed some others while I was offshore. Eh, it happens. Good thing I like the day job, it does allow me to afford my racing. Believe me. Taking pictures won't do it. But I like that as much as my day job.

3 or 4. All but one at THAT, the season opener at the burg was the other one. Had some awesome hoosier hospitality there. Thanks again Dave for what you did. Hopefully I hit a new track this year. Much like coasters, racing has become a second thought, I will be spending more times trying to get into better health (lose some weight by doing stuff outside and excercising more {kayaking}).

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

65 races, not enough sprint and midgets

Sprints
Pavement sprints
Silver Crown -- dirt and pavement
Winged sprints -- 305s, 360s, 410s
IMCA Sprints
Midgets
Indoor Midgets -- Kemper and Fort Wayne
Pavement midgets
weekly races -- Stock cars, TQs, legends, modifieds, 4-cylinder (The nation's fastest growing race class because the average Joe can afford it.)
dirt late models
asphalt late models
USMTS modifieds
Boone Nationals
NASCAR Nationwide
IndyCar
Go-karts
Quarter Midgets

Places I most missed -- Winchester, Bloomington, Lawrenceburg, Indiana Sprint and Midget Week. All those nights at Eldora.
Things enjoyed first time -- a lot of new racing events iin Iowa. The Boone Super Nationals.
Things I enjoyed the most -- all my friends, old and new.

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

I think I ended up with 116 races in 15 states, maybe? I hit more winged shows this year, but virtually no non-open wheel stuff, although I planned to hit a few more. I actually got hit pretty hard by rainouts, especially late in the year.
Some pretty outstanding races this year. Plenty of good stuff out there to see!!

Sorry I left you out of my origional post Spridge. I knew you saw a bunch. I may someday use vac time for something other than racing, or maybe not. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

58, down about 10 from the last few years. Didnt travel much, Eldora & Danville were the only ones outside of Indiana. Saw some great races and enjoyed hanging out with the usual suspects and a lot of others I met along the way. Thanks to Bill for creating this board so I could meet all these people that are as nuts about this sport as I am. Ever told a co-worker or non-race person that you went to 60 races last year? Remember the look you got?

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

My actual “Races seen” total was 68 (in 6 staes-Oh., Ky., Ind., Ill., Pa & Mich.), plus 7 additional dates that were qualifying or practice dates, although a few of those were double headers that included a race later the same evening at a different location. Was only rained out once, at Haubstadt. The race total of 68 includes Indy 500 & the MotoGP races @ IMS, IRL @ Kentucky, the AMA flat trackers at the Indy Mile, a few Late Model:18: only races (L’burg, Eldora, Moler & Lake Cumberland), and a few late season Drag races at Edgewater Sports Park (Cleves, Oh) & Thorn Hill Dragway (Morning View, Ky.)
New tracks visited were Vermilion County Speedway (3 times), Kalamazoo Speedway (USAC Sprints) and Lake Cumberland Speedway (Ky), where I went on Nov. 7th, thinking no one would recognize me there, and I barely parked the car and headed to the gate when the I heard my named called out from the atop of the grandstand (the steepest grandstands I ever seen). It was the SHIORTBUS!:6:

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

(44) Races down from the last few years...

Although 25 were in a foreign country, a record I would assume. (also costly in $200 for border crossing tolls)
(5) new tracks: Brownstown Speedway, Terre Haute, Indy Fairgrounds, Waynesfields Motorsports Park, Ventura Raceway
(2) Tracks in the same day twice, Toledo/Fremont and Anderson/Terre Haute.
(5) Provinces/States: Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, California
(18) tracks: Brownstown Speedway, Columbus Motor Speedway, Eldora Speedway, Toledo Speedway, Fremont Speedway, Oakshade Raceway, Flatrock Speedway, Anderson Speedway, Indy Fairgrounds, Terre Haute Action Track, South Buxton Raceway, Ohsweken Speedway, Delaware Speedway, Waynesfield Motorsports Park, Attica Raceway Park, Ventura Raceway and Fort Wayne Coliseum.

I do have pictures of it all...

I shoot from May til September at my hometrack on Saturdays limiting my Friday travelling.

You guys put me to shame, but with the Sprint and midget weeks and Sunday night shows I have a hard time hitting those numbers.

When you told those guys what a great rabbit dog Sprinter was....if you taped a potato chip to the rabbits ass...He would hunt them!

My tally for the year was the worst since I was a teenager, so bad I'm embarrassed to post it. But what I missed more than the racing, was seeing all of our great friends we've made over the past years. (My favorite part anyway!)

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

Not as many as most of you guys, but I did alright for my limited income. I went to 11 tracks in 2 states. Saw sprints and nearly every race, mostly winged ASCS and SST w/ one WoO, midgets, winged modifieds, late models and lots of modified and limited modifieds.

And yesterday I gave my favorite bomber driver $100 toward her 2010 season. Go Shelbi!

Went to the last "good" race at Manzanita- the Copper on Dirt last Februrary. Didn't know it then that I would never get another trip to Manzy... so sad. The Silver Crown, Sprints and Midgets were great shows there.

Cannot believe that you didn't go to the Halloween 200 at Salem. Talk about your rock 'em, sock 'em. :8: (A great way to end the year, if nothing else. Hey, it's Salem, is my ongoing reasoning. I'm almost as old as that old track.)

Aero might come down and hang out in the parking lot if you supply the Dingaling beer!!

Next yr I'm getting him and Pine to come to the World Figure 8 Championship at the Speedrome. He was just getting a little taste of pavement this yr.

Re: Where did you end up in 2009?

I went to forty-four races in four states, (IN, IL, KY, OH). I actually attended more races (69 races in 1973 was my biggest year ever) when I still worked, because more tracks were available within driving distance and Tri-State Speedway ran about twenty races a year. I have to drive at least two hours to get to any track other than Tri-State.
I am more selective in what I attend now than I was back in the seventies.

65 races in 6 different states this year. Hoping to do more in 2010. really missing feeding during Sprintweek but the tracks needed the money with the economy still down.
