Mini sprint gearing
I have an 04/06 r1 could someone give me an idea on gearing for Montpellier. i have a 14 front sprocket thank you in advance
Possible a range i want to hit putumville |
Re: Mini sprint gearing
I run 13 x 51 in second gear at Montpelier, or 12.24 final. I also use 84" RR tires. If you run the 82" RR, you could get away with less gear.

Sweet thanks is there any way i could pull off a 14 front tooth if i matched the final gear ratio

I looked last night and to match gwar ratio i would need a 55. So i take it that is the gear ratio to shoot for and i believe the 14 55 would be a taller gear than what you run would it hurt me

Re: Mini sprint gearing
51/13 is 3.923, 55/14 is 3.928, so numerically very close; the biggest difference is you would have to add 4 pins to your chain or suck the rear axle in to get the right chain tension. Also a tiny bit more rotating mass, not sure if it would be enough to affect acceleration, but it's there nevertheless. Depending on whether or not you already have a 51 or 55-tooth rear sprocket you may be better off to replace your front sprocket; sprockets are sort of "consumables" anyway, you should replace them periodically. Saves chains and grief in the long run...

Well i changed from the bailey gear hub to hyper i had a 52 rear sprocket but it wont fit on tbe hyper deal so i have to either buy a rear sprocket to go with my 14 front or buy a new front and rear so just trying to figure out my best option. My main track will be Montpellier but i might hit some mmsa stuff so trying to figure out how i can be close in gearing that it wont be a big change in gearing if i go hit like a 3/8 mile

Re: Mini sprint gearing
Go buy the 13 and a 51. You need to build up your gear selection anyways if you plan on traveling at all.

Thank you guys for helping
