Re: Favorite track that is no longer around
One thing about Warsaw and Avilla that is really sad is how many racers are from that area, yet there is no longer an operating track there. Jeff Walker, Tony Elliott, Brett Mann, Denny England, Randy Woodling, Tyler Boggs, Terry Sroufe, Todd Sherman, Terry Hull, Scott Orr, and Tommy Beezley are some that come to mind. There are a lot more who live within a reasonable distance of those cities, but ******** and city development have prevented the chance of racing there.
Another track that isn't pronounced dead yet, but seems to be on life support is my local track, Montpelier. It's a shame to see the other great tracks in this area that are no longer around, and I don't want to see mine go the same way. |

I second Pinebrook...used to love that place as a kid. Then, Silver Spring in PA...

Re: Favorite track that is no longer around
The old Cincinnati Race Bowl would be on my list. I saw my first open wheel race there in the early 50's, a Wed. night AAA show.
I drive by the site often and miss it and my dad who took me there. :checkered: |

Re: Favorite track that is no longer around
I would have to mention the dirt track at Carrollton, Kentucky where my Dad and Ernie Auxier gave Stan Bowman his very first ride in a racecar the #2 Stop Lite Grill 1934 Chevrolet chopped down modified powered by a 1948 Ford Flathead V8.Other drivers that come to mind--Earl Schmitt, Gene Cutshaw, Jim Brooks, Ralph Clary. Seems like day before yesterday but it was 1956!!
