Re: Lawrencburg updates tonight?

Chuck,

The line up problem is a problem. At some point, a series really needs to find the dollars for transponders and one way radios. That would solve the entire problem for all. Manual scorers take a lap or two to get it sorted out and then the drivers refuse to believe what they are being told to do and around and around they all go. Of course all tracks would need to have a loop for the transponders to work. At some point it will become the only way. Still, manual scorers are totally required to back up the electronic and implement the realignment.

It is frustrating as a fan or a participant to see cars going around under yellow time and time again. Frustrating for the person in race control too. Someone earlier stated an opinion about 14th and 15th. It is just as important to those guys that they restart correctly as it is 1st and 2nd. I worked 75 laps to pass a guy on asphalt in a stock car only for the caution to come out two laps after I made the pass and they put me behind the guy! I had to do it all over again. It was for 5th but it was important to me.

How bout Racecievers? FLorence made them manditory. I believe the cost per team is about a hundred. I'll have to look it up. I don't know what it cost the track to be able to broadcast but it's far cheaper than a 400 dollar radio system with rentals and headset sales.

Chuck, who says tracks could probably add one dollar to 1 dollar to a tracks pit pass and payoff a transponder system in one season.

voice, it was me that said that. the reason i said it was because at one point the field was lined up, nobody was disputing it on the track and the guy down by turn 4 gets his whiteboard out and starts rearranging things way back in the pack! the people in our section were screaming bloody murder. if it wasn't important enough for the drivers to dispute it, THROW THE FRIKKEN GREEN!!!!!!

Re: Lawrencburg updates tonight?

Thanks to everyone who supports Lawrenceburg Speedway.
I would like to apologize to anyone who was'nt satisfied with our race on Saturday. it hurts me as bad as anyone when everything is'nt perfect. Yes, we ended up getting bit by the darn weather. If the sun would of stayed out just another hour it would have been perfect. The bottom of the track was the problem and no matter what, wheel packing or if we graded it, it was wet down there and was not going to dry up enough to make it racy down there. I would like to apologize to all the racers that had a bad night with us and hope you understand what went wrong. We will have bad nights and we will have excellent nights. prepping a track is kinda like mixing a bag of concrete, too much water and its soup, not enough and its dusty chunks. or for the ladies, its like mixing cake mix, same deal.
Bottom line is, the track ended up too wet on the bottom and caused a single groove race for the most part. This is my first season as a promoter and i have learned many things. I will improve on the mistakes and move forward hoping that next time to get it right.
I also apologize for not responding sooner, just got home from the track from cleaning up all the garbage and dirt from the stands.
If everyone who posted here today would of stopped by and help for 5 minutes i would of had an easy day and night.
Anyhow, Thanks to all of my staff and crew for all that they do. I know its really tough on my staff when they give all they got, to do the right things and then come here and have to read all the bashing. And thanks to everyone who posted the positive posts and support us.
I am now looking forward to the future and i am not going to dwell on the past anymore...........Hope to see you all at Funfest this weekend.
Sincerely, Dave Rudisell

You're right Dave! I felt the same way about the bottom, it wasn't gonna come in no matter what. My first time their in 14 years, I was impressed with your facility. All we can do is move on, learn, and look forward to the future. I had a great time over there and thanks!

If the MSCS is not capable of putting on a quality show because they can not afford the proper equipment then why does it cost 20% more to go to the MSCS race at Lawrenceburg then it does to go to a USAC race there. USAC has radios and transponders.

Usac pays far less than that show, Usac's sanction fee is far bigger. Why do a few tracks just cancel instead of running the show? Because they would have lost more on the sanction fee than just being short on fans to pay the purse.

Chuck, not bashing USAC or anyone here. It's just the RISK are inhearently higher when a sanction fee is on top.

MSCS puts on many quality shows throughout the season. They charge a minimum sanctioning fee. The USAC shows you are referencing are likely a $4000 to win show with about three or four times the fees. This show was a $10,000 to win race. Maybe that would help you understand. When I said lineups are a problem I was referring to many forms of racing at many levels of the sport. In no way was my post critical of MSCS.

Last week we were debating the cost to get in, now after the fact, depending on your point of view, most seem to say the racing sucked Saturday night. Someone mentioned driving 300+ miles and got a thank you from Dave Rudisell.

Last week Dave noted what a great value you were getting for your $25.00,and even compared it to other forms of entertainment. In case you have forgotten that post, here it is.

http://indianaopenwheel.com/vmessage...2436#post12436

Its no wonder that some tracks have a hard time competing with other forms of entertainment. If you charge good money for admission, and the races are crappy, why would people want to come back for 2nd time?

I was also thinking this past weekend after Dave's post last week comparing prices, that he shouldnt be telling us hardcore fans the comparisons, he should be out going AFTER the people going to other forms of entertainment, and get them to come to the races instead.More importantly get them to come to the races every week!

I'm just glad I had already made plans for other venues this weekend rather than Lawrenceburg. I would have been really bummed had I made the drive down, paid good money expecting to see a good race, then leave feeling disappointed. Then I would have even more disappointed reading basically, thanks for coming 300 miles, try again next time.

Re: Lawrencburg updates tonight?

This was our first show at the burg. Thought things went well. We were told ahead of time that with the banking it would be a one groove track, so we got what we expected. I thought it was well run and the facility is beautiful. its always the luck of the draw for the most part as so many cars are very equal. I think if the banking was lowered the racing would be much better and would make it easier to run into a 2 groove track week to week. Also it might prevent the speeds that end cars up in the stands. Over all we enjoyed running there and will come back but would prefer that the banking be cut down to improve safety and racing quality. And to everyone else quit crying its racing your never going to make any money till the big leagues and you still need to bring 5 million to get 1. Hauler 2 cars win 10, 10,000 dollar shows net loss 150,000 bucks so don't worry about it your still loosing money and if you don't show up at nascars door with 5 or 10 million they won't open it. so do your best with what you got and what the tracks can provide and have fun. Thanx to the management for a fun day. And forget shouda coulda wooda

Re: Lawrencburg updates tonight?

Lawrenceburg must be doing something right! I can't recall any thread about any track getting almost 220 posts since I've registered for this board. I've always heard that any publicity is good publicity. I don't believe that is always true but, look at the passion fans and racers have for the "BURG", good or bad. My belief is that Lawrenceburg has been the heart of Indiana sprint car racing since the late 50's on. I don't believe any other track in Indiana has the history that the "BURG" has.

I agree enough already. I have just one comment; it has been interesting to see individuals changing their opinions from the influences of others.

I was at the race, enjoyed the race. If I was as unhappy as a few I would just find another track. Or maybe show up on prep days and try my hand at preparing the track. I had a boss once who said --- everyone has an opinion just like they have ass holes.

i think you missed out ASQ. i enjoyed the racing. what do you expect dave to do?? he is getting drilled on here. so the way i see it he is taking the high road instead of trying to argue with everyone and make it even worse.

I had a blast. Plenty of entertainment. I spent more time in the grandstand seat than just about any race I can remember this year.

Did you people not watch Swindell for the last twenty laps of that race? How about Casey Shuman? How about watching kids like Sammy Imel and Kevin Thomas, Jr. stepping up?

You guys need to find some new friends at the race track who are more entertaining or buy a pit pass or something...

Re: Lawrencburg updates tonight?

I think Dave is smart to stay out of p!ssing matches with the paying customers. He's working hard to make Lawrenceburg a success. The track wasn't perfect but, it wasn't as bad as many on here make it out to be. The feature was a great race in my opinion, and the people sitting around us (all strangers) were having one hell of a time watching Swindell's run at Ballou. I would have enjoyed it more if we had made the show but, that didn't happen so, I got to sit back and enjoy some good racing after we loaded up.

All I know is that Dave stepped up to the plate *Several times*, Put up with a lot of crap and almost lost money. He ran all but two races, One with a half hour thunderstorm at hotlap time and got KIDS INTERESTED and too the track with some school promo's early on.

The track change is not his doing, It was a condition of anyone who took the lease.

Some how Spridge you calling somebody a kid makes me feel 100 years old. Any track promoter or owner who interacts with fans on a message board has my respect. He will never satisfy everybody. My advise to him is to do your job if you do it good people will be there if not they won't. leave it to us let us wannabees to fight all night long a message board

Re: Lawrencburg updates tonight?

a lot of track operators look at this board, many will not post because they don't want to be beat on. Dave has stepped up and took his beatings and still kept "The Burg" going all year.

Hats off to Dave for having the balls to take the beatings.

IOW has maybe 30 people who speak up and post their thoughts, good or bad, regular.

Out of "The Burg" large crowd how many where IOW people??? Not many maybe 3%. I'm sure some of the non-IOW's in the stand where upset too, but most went home happy seeing a race and cheering for their guys in whatever classes.

Point is only a few step up and post here compared too the total number at the track, some use their name and most are keyboard jockeys without signing a real name. If you really mean what you say then step up and put your real name with it!!

Most of the fans at Put or any track don't care and go home happy and don't read or even know about IOW. They come back every week to see the races, good or bad.

This horse is dead.
