Re: Napcar
I didn't actually check the elapsed time from the moment of the fire beginning until the arrival of the fire fighting equipment, but it seemed like an eternity. Compare this with IMS; I remember seeing a fire crew pursuing Bob Veith's burning car many years ago while it was still in motion. Also, Indy Car has the same medial and safety teams at each race while NASCAR relies on each track to provide the service.

Re: Napcar
IMS is lucky in the fact that they have a firetruck in each turn and short chute so they can get to a crash in the turn quickly. NASCAR has always been slow to get to a fire or crash. IMS also has a couple fullsize firetrucks ready to roll if needed. One firetruck showed up at JPM's crash but it took forever for a proper one to arrive on the outside of the track.
I'm surprised that somebody didn't have the ball or smarts to jump in and drive the track blower truck off the track before it caught fire so the track wouldn't get burned up. Anyway glad everybody is ok. :35: |
