Jay tells me there might be some push back about the cost of entry for Du Quoin. To this I replied to Jay, For some unknown reason race tracks with roofs over them seem to cost more to rent than those that do not have such amenities. It is nice to know that you won't drive 200 miles and get rained out. Maybe a Blizzard but not snow or rain out.:)

Last year I think we postponed twice>>> well ahead of the race dates for blizzards.:) This weekend looks great. Maybe we could move it next door to the "Magic Mile track":5:

For those teams wanting to arrive on Friday that are pitting indoors you may unload your car and Set up your pit from 4pm to 8pm.

Steve has the race advertised as a Lightning Sprint Race at the DuQuoin Center.http://stevenaceracing.com/Mini%20Sprints.htm

With his permission we agreed to allow the stock block Midgets run with us also in hopes of a better car count. Promoters love car count to a degree. So hopefully the Mini Sprint Racers + the other Midget sized race cars should provide a car count and maybe help out the purse also. Mud if you have a Sidewinder bring it down they are on the card also.

This has been a great debate with very few threats of reprival the question is still in the air. What do we call a chain drive Motorcycle powered Midget framed race car. It is plain we share nothing with Sprint Cars and an awful lot with the Midget racer.

Why is Midget such a sacred name that it can not be divided into classes. We have 1/4 Midgets since changed to .25 Midget probably for PC reasons, they have many classes under this umbrella. We have 1/2 Midgets, I guess they are obsolete now, we have Micro Midgets they morphed into Jr. Sprints and now Mini Sprint each of these divisions having many sub divisions, we have 3/4 Midgets with variations all over the USA, we have Echo tec Midgets, Focus Midgets, and Kenyon Midgets. Then we have Mini Sprints who relinquished their name to the Micro Midgets racers and who performance wise probably have more in common with Midgets than any of the other classes named and they get stuck with a name like Lightning Sprint that has no resemblance what so ever to what they are. Talk about truth in advertising? and Politically Correct? How would you like to pay out your hard earned money to watch a Lightning Sprint Race and get to the race track only to find a bunch of Midgets.:5:

1/4 midget is QMA and .25 midget is USAC

So I would guess that QMA had some infighting and back biting going on and they left their back door open and USAC stepped right in. That brings about something called competition and should make things better.

These Jr. Sprints look like something very interesting to me, but I ran out of driver material and really can't afford any more.:)

So I'm making the assumption that general admission is $15, an dthen a pit pass is an extra $20 on top of the general admission price, or am I reading that wrong?

Usually a pit pass is like a back stage pass. It lets you go anywhere>>>>>>Except up to my "Sky Box Suite".:3:;)

I'm just thinking that $20 for a pit pass is awfully cheap compared to normal. I was just figuring that it might have been like what Brownstown does and charges you as you enter, and then the pit pass is an additional fee.

Avon Open Wheel fan 2/4/15 10:32 AM

Pit pass is a great deal just 20 dollars that is Just 5 more dollars than the general admission.ticket. Like Dad said its like getting a back stage VIP pass for just 5 extra dollars.

You Can seldom get a pit pass for 20.dollars.

Re: Midgets at Southern Illinois Center Feb 7th

No Jay, that you can not. I just wanted to make sure what the price was so I was sure to have enough cash for the 2 of us.

Avon Open Wheel fan 2/4/15 12:17 PM

The other nice Nice part of.buying a pit pass is pit gates open at 9am. You Can arrive early and get to meet the drivers and see the cars.

Looking forward to a fun time in lovely Du Quoin Illinois this weekend. Sounds like we will have an excellent field of cars and some great race drivers racing what some folks consider sub par race cars. A true racer will have fun watching or racing almost any type of race. All that is required is that the competitors must be competitive. Watching racers strive to get that last bit of performance out of their vehicle or I guess now even their software program is the fun in racing. When you allow your perspective of racing to be very narrow you are going to miss out on some very good racing.

Did I mention that the "Magic Mini Mile" and PowrI used 1200cc powered midget Race cars to test the water to see if the race track would be compatible for full Midget racing. In other words the 1200cc Midgets were the first Midget sized cars to have ever raced indoors at Du Quoin.

Briscoe, Bell, and Ambrose will represent the Hoosier Speed Company this Saturday at the Center.

The Bell-Briscoe duo is slated to drive temporarily for the Bradley brothers for this event, however Ambrose will be a mainstay in the Hoosier Speed stables for 2015.

"I feel like it's an opportunity for us to get some real feed back on our cars"

Says Hoosier Speeds founder
Andy Bradley.

"We are extremely excited to have these drivers represent us and we will do what we can to give them what they need to win"

Avon Open Wheel fan 2/6/15 7:38 AM

Still getting lots of questions about pit passes And ticket prices. Pit passes are $20 which is a pretty good deal. General admission tickets are $15

Just a five dollar difference gets you into the pits. So if you.want to come down early and see the cars and drivers this is a great deal.

The best part is.... the top 2 runners, Briscoe and Bell..... SIM RACERS... haha : )

Maybe a better way of saying that is, RACERS who also happen to SIM...

Jim

We have enough ethnocentrism around IOW to float a boat. That is a good thing because it causes us to take pride in our particular form of the hobby we all love.

Whenever someone make an ethnocentric remark it is made to reinforce their beliefs that what ever form of the hobby that they are pursuing is relevant.

Their are probably at least two particular types of SIM racers.

1. The racer that just can't find enough time in the day to race as much as they want to race and resort to Rental Go Karts, SIM, or anything else around that moves and they can compete competitively with one another.

2. The Racer that for some reason or another can not or does not have the opportunity to race in a real race car and on a real race track. And to reinforces their love for racing they rely on SIM for their gratification.

The number 1 drivers are what make the sport great, these are the guys that truly love racing, they make no distinction on the race track. They don't care if you are a NASCAR Champion or the guy next door their only objective is to outrace you. They in the process make the sport much more relevant to the fans because of these associations with their fans.

The number 2 drivers are also very important because they offer the sounding board and competition that makes this particular form of racing work. After talking with a few people I will concede that SIM is in fact a form of racing, just like Midget, Sprint Car, Mini Sprint, or Hornet. They are raced by racers that LOVE RACING.

To many of you number 2 races out their>>>go to some actual races>>>sign in the pits>>>introduce your selves to the racers whither they be SIM racers or not. They share your love of racing as much as you do. We personalty can not find help at the race track and would love someone with the passion on our team and I bet many other racers are in the same boat as we are.

Re: Midgets at Southern Illinois Center Feb 7th

Wow. I had to look that up; at first I thought you had butchered "Ecotec" worse than usual...:D
Not meant to be a slam, I just think Chase & Chris's experience behind an actual wheel probably makes them better SIM racers than the other way around.
And kudos to those who can run on a "virtual" racetrack; I've never been able to successfully negotiate a decent lap, without all of the other sensory information that you get bombarded with in a real-world situation, feeling (and hearing) the track surface, waiting for the right rear to nudge up against the cushion, straining against the g-forces trying to throw you out of your seat, trying to look around that big glob of mud that just hit your face shield right after you pulled your last tear-off.
Don't know how you do it when you don't have all that feedback...

Guess you aught to get yourself an inexpensive racing wheel set up and give it a Go.

We turned some pretty good times last week, you can always get out your cellphone, find a race on u-tube pick a hot dog out and clock him for 5 or 6 laps until you get him the same place again and divide that time by the laps you clocked.:6:

As far as the other race they don't need cars or attention the fewer cars the better (less Competition) so I will reserve my remarks to this old wore out post.:)
