Re: Rising Cost of Racing!!
You could always shop around and get the most for your money.
Local shows- 80% same guys-general adm. 50% less Eldora USAC Sprints was $18, upcoming WOO $25 (and they race for 300% more) Winchester has a MSR and a $60,000 purse with double features coming up for the same $25. OR/ fill the stands for $25 and with any luck at all, next year it could be $30. There is a HUGE payroll for some organizations that has to be made!!! If the WOO can pay $80,000 and the MSR can pay $60,000 , bothwith $25 adm., well, things that make you go HUUMM! |
Re: Rising Cost of Racing!!
Something I haven't seen mentioned is the purses. With the front gate going up 25-33%, how much have the purses gone up?
I feel the pain. My round-trip airfare to IND has risen from about $250 to $450 in 2 years. And, I'm all out of miles saved from my traveling days. :-) I haven't even looked at how much car rentals have risen. |
Re: Rising Cost of Racing!!
Car rentals are the one thing that hasn't gone up in the last 20+ years.

Fuel costs have gone up, so has the ticket prices. One big issueis people just flat out aren't coming to the track as much anymore. So when you have attendance that's down, you have to raise ticket prices to get some of that revenue back. In a perfect world, you would lower the prices to encourage people to show up, but by the same token, you take a bigger risk that those people aren't going to show. Without the fans showing up, you can't pay the purses.
But truthfully, the one thing nobody has talked about... insurance. I know what I was quoted 5 years ago, and I haven't quoted since then, but I've got a very good feeling it's gone way up. that's one thing that people don't often think about. I can only speak for the racing that we do, but for us last year, on average, our fuel cost increase was only about 15 bucks per race, which our farthest track away was about 2 hours with a Ford truck and a 28 foot tag trailer. |
Re: Rising Cost of Racing!!
Just finished motel reservations for ISW. Most are fine, but same motel in Haubstadt up from $90 to $127. Same room, same place-go figure.

Look at the awesome crowds Clay County is getting for $5 a head! They are doing something right!

Pit passes at Perris are $45.00 for Usac members and $50.00 for non members,It's $25.00 for general admission and $8.00 to park for the fans and these prices are just for a regular show.

Re: Rising Cost of Racing!!
I had a strange thing happen to me, going to Greensburg Sunday, I watched the fuel gauge all the way up there, and it just kept getting closer to the big E on the left side of the gauge, then on the way home, after racing, instead of going down more, it started going back toward the F on the right side, as I got closer to home, I was afraid I was going to have to stop, and put some of it in a fuel jug, so it wouldn't run over, and cause a slick place on the highway! I also have some ocean front property in Glendale, Az for sale, any takers? I can't imagine, how much money you would have to make, to actually live in California, from some of the stories I've heard on renting, or owning a home, it's so hi you can see under it! Bob!:)

Re: Rising Cost of Racing!!
This is one of the reason I am not pushing in Florida next year. Gas, motel room and some of the track give push trucks NOTHING.......Indiana promoters know how to treat their push trucks.
