Re: Updates from Haubstadt??

I thought the racing was great. Heat transfers were fairly predictable, and some questionable judgement by at least one veteran driver added spice to the C/B features. How could one not enjoy Clayton's charge to the front, Jones and Stanbrough coming from the back, Cone battling oil fires and driving the :censor: out of his car (in his words), Bland/Short after a couple of rough weeks finishing 1-2? It was certainly worth a 250 mile drive and getting home at near 3 AM. Congrats to the Bland team and Tri-State!! :applaud: I have to agree with most of what was said about the black 71. He always seemed to be in the wrong spot.....but....you have to start somewhere. He might have chosen a less high profile event.

Race wasn't really that good but it was great to see jeff bland get a very hard-earned win!

I wonder why you even bother going to watch this group race you have made it a personal vendetta to crucify this racing group.Has for the racing there last night it was great racing all night long and the feature was has usual another fantastic one at Haubstadt.

Re: Updates from Haubstadt??

Why be offended? That's just how i saw it. Ruble got parked because the black 71 was in his way and he almost spun and darland hit him on the way by. Darland was obviously being overly cautious with ruble so as not to crash in the c main. The heats were really good...semi was decent...feature was not that exciting throughout, just like most fifty lap races there. I've seen really good and just decent races with that group. That's how it goes. Sorry it took me a while to respond - i was watching a race at winchester. via Mobile Device[/i]

Re: Updates from Haubstadt??

Nobody raves about great Haubstadt races when they see one, more than I do. Last night was a pretty good race, as far as races in general go, but it was not one of those Haubstadt Classics that I've seen so many of. Once Daron got to the lead, nobody came close to challenging him. And then after his motor finally went, nobody was a real threat to Jeff or was Brady seriously challenged for second. Or once Messeraul avoided Hunter for the last time, was he really challenged for the third spot. So, I don't really disagree with Kirk, here. It was a good race, but not a great one. Not at the home of Instant Classic, any way.

Now that's not to say that nothing exciting happened during the feature. Watching Messeraul and Hunter ricochet off of the walls for 50 laps was fun. T-Mez, at one point, even driving on the wall, in turn 2. Wondering if Hud Cone was going to break the record for consecutive laps in a sprint car, while on fire, was interesting. And Levi did nip Hunter at the line, on the last lap.

Yeah, you must have spent $20 or so over the weekend for gas:D. I don't mind the driving or even the cost of fuel. It's getting home at 3AM that ruins my golf game for 3 or 4 days. :crying: We have been making a trip each month to Kokomo. About the same distance with the same driving hangover. However, the season is winding down and it's getting near time to go south for the winter. We can see some racing in FL but usually pavement and if sprints are involved its TBARA wings. I hate to admit to watching wings on this board, but I don't think there have been non-wing 410s on dirt there since Tn'T ran at East Bay about 3 years ago.

We actually had some good fortune on this trip...E85 gas for $2.99 in Loogootee and a $35 discount on our hotel room! They must've known it was our last trip to Haubstadt this year and they just wanted to say 'thanks'! Afterall, we made about 4-5 trips down that way this year. And we are ready to go again next year!

Pretty good is probably more applicable than great. I nearly forgot about T-Mez and his wall driving. That's a lot of banking. He might have lost the lead but he didn't quit. The guy has shown something in the last few races when I have seen him and the Trucker's cars look race ready. Good on them. Some combinations just hit it off. This looks like one and they deserve it. :thumb

Re: Updates from Haubstadt??

Personally I thought the A-main was a bit anti-climatic (sp?). Watching T-Mez bang it off the wall lap after lap was exciting...how he kept it on all 4's is beyond me. Then Clayton worked his way through the field and took the lead. He started to check out then we had a couple of yellows, but on each restart he pulled away. Then his motor blew and for the last 10 laps it was Bland - Short 1-2 with no one really challenging.

I'm a huge Clayton fan and always root for him wherever he goes so I was very excited to see him in the lead. For a while it was the perfect scenario, for me anyways, as it was Clayton - Bland - Short -- perfect! Then Clayton's motor blew up and, as a fan, I was disappointed. But it worked out well since my next 2 favorite drivers finished 1-2.

Nothing can beat the heat races though...the slide jobs were amazing and the battle between Short & Ballou was a classic.

What a way to end the season at Haubstadt! :thumb

Re: Updates from Haubstadt??

I think DD is one of the greats of this sport, and I respect him and most of his decisions on the race track, but I believe he may have been a liitle impatient in the B when on lap 4 of 12 he felt the need to take himself and the 9K of Kevin Thomas, Jr. out of contention when it seemed inevitable that both were gonna have good shots at making the top five to get in the A. Both guys had the speed and I don't think the 9K was holding him up at all, in fact the 9K looked to be pretty fast himself all night. Sometimes a little patience will prove to be the deciding factor in making a show or loading the trailer early. Last night Mr. Darland found himself in unfamiliar territory and pushed it a little too hard in the B and it bit him and the 9K in the butt. DD doesn't make many mis judgements, but that was surely one there. But remember in the end, that's just one of those racing deals, and this ain't badmitton.

i dont see how anyone can possibly like brady short. he is one of the most boring drivers to watch. he starts up front and runs the bottom how exciting is that:sleep:? not very. he is a good driver and all but as a fan he is very boring to see him put around the bottom

DD overdrove his car and eliminated himself. He WAS going to transfer.

pup fan........ you must have been sleeping... brady started on the 3rd row in his heat and won.. racing very hard with ballou......he started on the pole in the feature and on lap one went to the top for half the race..... directly behin messaroul when he hit the wall..... and you dont have to like brady as many do..if you would have been around our pit after the races you would have seen that..... maybe your just a boring fan......... and it wasnt boring at all putting 5000.00 in our pocket that night either..... don short:applaud:

Re: Updates from Haubstadt??

I like Brady Short and think he did an awesome job on the bottom. Its a whole lot harder to run the bottom at Haubstadt than anywhere else because you cary so much speed entering the corner and if you don't do it JUST RIGHT you end up pushing up the track into the high groove or you clip one of those buried tires and over ya go.

The track was so fast everywhere Sat night you could run high, low or in the middle, which is where Bland, Short and Levi was at the end.

Still nobody had anything for "Cowboy" he could run anywhere he wanted and pass without a slide job.

Don I agree! Brady is one awesome driver and I never find him boring to watch! Best of luck in Lawrenceburg this week. I will be going to this track for the 1st time ever.

I have a few favorite drivers and Brady ranks right up there.....Keep him hooked up Don.

Re: Updates from Haubstadt??

This was our first trip to Tri-State from the Burg area. Thought the racing was good and will be back for sure, this could take the place of a few of our trips up to Kokomo. My one observation on the night and I will probably get bashed for saying this but here goes. I have always been a fan of both Cottle and Jones, but noticed how Jones decided to race his way into the Main through the B and drive clean other than using the right rear to make room for himself to make a pass as was the case of Cottle making the pass for third on Mellenbrecht. Mellenbrecht was driving his ass of to hold on to the last tranfer spot and ended up not making the Main, I know this is all a part of racing. Just thought the guy deserved better than what he got.
