An upright the motor sits right in the middle of the car and the driver is sitting upright like in a sprint car and midget, but the upright is chain driven while a sprint car is not. You just can't swap the motor out between a minisprint and sprint car. You can change the motor from a 410 sprinter to a 360 sprinter but not to a MINISPRINT. I've also been in a non-wing and wing sprint car, they all sound and feel different. A wing driver can't always go run non wing and vise versa.

The 410 last year in November ran a very low 13 in qualifying while my 600 micro non-wing ran approximately a 15 sec lap time. The lap times are completely different, so are the weights of the cars, horsepower and torque each car produce. A micro will not be able to compete with a sprint car/midget and any track. Period end of discussion.

Thanks A Sim and Dirt Track Racer

Colton,

I never compared a micro to a sprint car. I said that they run 3 different categories of sprint cars at canyon at different times of the year. Usac 410, 360 and challenge cup. All three divisions use the same car, different engine. Period, end of discussion.

Is there any kind of entrants list for next weekend out there yet?

I hope to put something out soon. Steve is still receiving pre-entries every day in the mail so the list is growing. There is drivers from at least 8 different states and series already pre-registered.

If any drivers want to comment that they are coming on here that will also help me with building a list.

I have developed many friendships through sim racing and Bill Gardner was one of those friends!

I totally agree with you and never meant to disrespect sim racing. It's awesome and a lot of fun. It's also not very cheap I've found after seeing some of the rigs you guys have. I guess the good part is you don't have a tire bill or have to pay for gas to get to the track! When I've got an extra $5k to drop, I might join you guys.

Let's say you're going to buy a car, The pictures shows a Corvette but when you get there, it's a Cobalt.. Are you still going to buy it because it's a "Chevy?":19:

Unless USAC or PowrI is on the Description of the race just don't go. Watch out up on the East cost also, I think USAC may have also slipped a ringer class in up there also.;) Hope you don't live up close to Angel Park, because that will require a ride for most races. Badger getting out of the high priced spread too. I think they might have a couple of really good Midget races still on the schedule but they will cost you a little more probably.

This is similar (minus all the flight controls) to the one a friend of mine has that was into iracing. He told me his wife almost divorced him over the time he would spend racing and setting up the cars. I could be wrong, but he said he had almost $5k into the entire deal which included the computer and monitors. I did run practice at MIS in a Nascar truck and it was really cool.

As a sim racer the chance of you getting into a full Midget or 410 Sprint is slim to none. The prospect of getting a sub Midget car is very promising. I have seen good race ready race cars sell for less than $5000.00. Not cheap but this number is achievable. Unfortunately wealth is wasted on the old people. No problem we accept older guys living out their dream all the time and welcome them into the Fraternity of Racers. We race because we LOVE it. If you LOVE it lets work on getting you into a sub prime Midget.

Do you learn how to back peddle in sim racing? Can you feel the car getting up against the cushion and driving off of it. Do you ever run into a big old hole or rut?

We do all that stuff and love doing it, you probably could also with just a little effort.

Another thing that would help a lot is if the race track owners would invest in making smaller and wider race tracks. The added action would only increase the crowd size. They will all be standing the entire race so they wouldn't need seats.

Honest Dad himself:6::6:

Dad I am willing to bet you I have won more races at Montpilier than you. I have won there in TQ Midgets not a full Midget (AJ Felker was my owner and crew chief). I have won there in a wing and non wing 360 sprint car (Notice I put 360 in front of sprint car). As for never getting in a full blown Midget i have actually competed in one a couple of hundred times on dirt and Pavement (actually have 1 win). As for never getting close to a 410 sprint car check out the 1994 Usac year book. I have a little 410 experience on pavement and dirt as well with or without a wing ( have won a few of them also but they were not USAC). And to the guy posting on here I was dense maybe . To the guy that said It was easy to have balls posting on here. My question to him is how many laps have you made in a sprint car or midget at tracks a 1/2 or bigger. How many laps have you made at Salem and Winchester in under 16 seconds or how many times you ran Eldora with or without a wing ? Good luck to all at Duqoin and Florida and be safe 🍻

That THING is neat.:6::6:

Another thing I have noticed about any racer in general. They start out racing with a $29.95 Radio Shack controller and before long they are racing a $2.99 Million NASA designed and NASCAR approved simulator.:5:

How many more steps up until you get shakers for the seat and articulated cylinders to flip you upside down you when you screw up and jump a wheel?

That rig you have pictured cost almost as much as our race car.

I sure would like to get rid of screen names. As for me for the last 40 years or so I have been "DAD". I had a TV add once that had me saying "There really is a Dad and I am Him!!!"

When did you drive for AJ.? Doug ran his only Midget race up at Montpelier in AJ's old Pontiac, finished 7th on the opening night.

We race because we love it. If I won the lottery maybe a Midget but I'll be damned if I let him get on anything bigger than Montpelier. So I guess for now we just go up there and race and have fun.

I actually ran Bill Felkers TQ for 2 seasons in UMRA and we won a couple of shows with a Pre teen AJ Felker turning the wrenches LOL. AJ's Dad wrenched on my sprintcar a few races in the mid 90s. I did run AJs midget at the HUT Hundred in the late 90s. Then when AJ was old enough to drive he started kicking my butt in TQs and the Midgets . Felkers are great people. Good luck to you and your race team this year. 👍🍻Bobby Smith.

Bobby

Well you aint't no spring chicken.:5: I can lay most of my addiction problems on the Felker's. I was a recovering raceaholic when Bill invited me to watch young AJ race his non wing mini sprint against all the winged Mini Sprints at Little Salem. I have managed to control my Passions and subdue my desires but it is always a fight.

I really enjoy getting under people's skin and hopefully getting them to use their Brain. Wonder what kind of deal I could get on a FSC 1000cc Midget toward one of them sim racers. They do look a little safer to this old Mother Hen race car tycoon and owner --advisor, I get in the way when I try to help.

You do realize I have to drive 80 miles to ask AJ who the hell you are, don't you because he won't pick up the phone for me.:5:

Says he is going to teach me to text, to that I say BullSh1t.:D

Thanks Bobby that saved me a drive. Bill Felker and I raced Micros against a guy named Butch Smith a former sprint car driver and engine builder up in Frankfort Ky.

AJ was still working on his mechanic skill when we first met but that kid went through Brake Clean and Carb cleaner by the case cleaning and detailing that darned Mini Sprint. Come to thing about it he hasn't changed much.:)

He is truly a Journeyman Racer's racer>>>Driving>>>Fabricating >>>or engine building, I am very proud of him.:6::6:

I don't need to research anything. His claim was that you have run more races than all of the posters in this thread combined. i have been racing since I was 5 and I'm now 48. Last count was over 900 races in my lifetime and I know some of the other guys that have posted in this thread also have some pretty high numbers. You could easily have me covered, no problem, but all of us combined, that would be pretty tough. I'm sure the number for all of us would be over 2,000. If you raced 30 races a year for 50 years you would only be at 1500.

I wasn't putting you or anyone else down, just stating that I wasnt someone that raced for a couple of years and quit. Sorry for the confusion as it was never meant to be a " my wanker is bigger than yours" statement.

The Southern States Midget Series is putting on a race in Florida. A "MIDGET" race. And yes it is gonna be BIG!

What is misleading about that? Rules have been posted...links to the website...4 months of intense promoting locally and Nationally....many teams from NE threw the MW are coming down and all know that it is a "MIDGET" race with different engine combinations.

And Yes this is going to be BIG midget event.....

So what is a BIG midget as you call them? What size are they? Bigger wheels and tires or chassis? Are you now referring to BIG MIDGET as a NATIONAL MIDGET? If so that right there tells me there needs to be a distinguishing factor between the two cause even you are now confused....

What is the difference between a BIG midget and a REGULAR midget?

microsprint15 2/1/15 3:40 PM

A "Big" Midget race in my mind would have a pit area full of driver's like Clauson, Hagen, Hines, Abreu, Bell, Pickens, and others. A pit full of cars capable of pounding the cushion, throwing bonzai sliders, and on the edge of disaster lap after lap.

Honestly, anything less at a "Big" Midget race would be quite disappointing.

There is nothing wrong with Mini/Lightning Sprints, Kenyon Midgets, Focus and Ecotech racing. I have seen good races in all of these classes, but it is NOT the type of cars or racing fans expect at a "Big" Midget race.

I hope all of these races are successful, but misleading people is not the answer. You may fool the casual fan once, but it won't happen twice.

Re: Midgets at Southern Illinois Center Feb 7th

So

A lot of people think there should be but one Midget class? There is no more room for anything but the ones sporting the latest model specialty motors. Probably less than 200 cars in the USA meet this requirement. Most of the others we include as back markers. At this point in time probably 90% of the races are won by 10% of the Midgets racing. Most Midget racers in the big races are actually racing for 4th place. This situation is what is killing off Midget racing folks. Racers race to win if winning is taken from the equation pretty soon the numbers of racers start to fall. One of the big objectives of a successful promoter is to even this number out.

Several years ago we went to John Godfrey then (Stealth Motorsports) and ordered a Midget roller. We specified a 1 1/8th" top rail and replace the rear end with a 2" spline Winters axle. We payed him for a Midget Roller. Installed a 600cc Motor and went racing. We called it a Mini Sprint. But the invoice said Midget Roller.

Before going into the Midget business does anybody know who John worked for and what type car he built mostly?

Sprint cars are defined usually by their shared in common chassis size and then by the engine size and then usually by Wing or w/o wing. Is that correct?

If we were to define Midgets this way would that take some of the confusion out of the name.

For 60+ years we have had 1/4 Midget since changed to .25 Midgets>>1/2 Midgets>>>Micro Midgets now with half a dozen names>>>3/4 Midgets>>>>and then the all Mighty Midget.

Seems reasonable we could sub divide this commonly shared chassis race car into several sub classes so as not to catch honest cash paying race fans off guard.:)

As a former teacher I know the PC to respond to you would have said "Young Man" but going back a little further to my childhood before PC had even been coined . My fathers response to me during such a critical task as boiling ones chain would have been Don't bother me "BOY" perhaps followed by some sort of corporal response just to get my attention.

I didn't like it but I sure do miss it. Had PC not come into vogue we probably would not even be having this discussion. Someone will always be offended. Soo>>>>>Call it what the heck it is and stop trying to sound cute or trendy.
