Re: How you got your iow name
I was born and raised in Lawrenceburg, I live in Aurora now, but Lawrenceburg has been my home track since childhood, almost 40 years now. I am still a Burg regular, although I havent been to the track yet this year, ARGGHHHHHH! Cutting to the chase, there is a restaurant in Lawrenceburg that has a hamburger called the "Lawrenceburger" and since I am not creative nor imaginitive, I called myself "Lawrenceburger."

Darva Jones (Levi's Mom) gave me that name. There were 3 Marks that ran around with the Jones gang and one day Darva started calling me Eldora Mark ( I live 10 miles from Eldora) and it has been with me since.

Re: How you got your iow name
Growing up at Oswego Speedway I was either a fan or friend of many supermodified drivers that had the dream of running in the Indy 500. An over the years I watched a number of those drivers and several crewmen that competed at Oswego Speedway get to live that dream of being a part of the Indy 500 as a driver or crewmen. I chose IndyBound for my IOW name at a time when many felt the Road to Indy had closed for open wheel short track racers from the U. S.. IndyBound represents hope to me, the hope that in the future we will once again see someone that got their racing experience at the local short track in your home town have doors open up that will take him or her to Indy to run in the 500.

Re: How you got your iow name
I have gone to Bloomington Speedway since early childhood. I love the red clay and still get chicken skin or goose bumps when the first hot lap session gets the green. I paid homage to the track that got me into sprint car racing as a young child. My name is Allen Cody and am just giving respect to the place that got me hooked.:8:

I am a pilot. VMC is the is the designation for the minimum air speed at which you MUST fly in a twin engine aircraft to maintain control when ONLY one engine operational. IE..Never ever fly below "VMC".
Just Above VMC, My way of saying I live everyday on the edge..... |
Re: How you got your iow name
I was at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska for an Outlaw race in '85.
Sammy crashed Brad Doty, turning him over. During the red flag, I went to the car to get some film for my camera. Being in a wheelchair, and Eagle's parking lot at that time being like a corn field, I hooked a rut in the dark, and turned over. A group of about 15 people I had never seen before (who had been outside drinking beer) immediatley circled me and began chanting "Spindell, Spindell...." laughing, pointing, etc! After awhile they got me back upright, dusted me off, and stuck a beer in my hand. Crashing is never good, but dumping it that night not only got me my nickname, but a lifelong group of friends, that has since expanded from coat to coast, including many IOW'ers! |
Re: How you got your iow name
Some some scumbag named me!:32:

Re: How you got your iow name
In past races there always seemed to be at least one car that had to pull off of the track because of a........let's say it together..........flat right rear.

Got my name from Jack (Hacksaw) Reynolds an old NFL player. As the story goes, after a bad game loss Jack used a hacksaw and sawed his vehicle in half with it

I took my real first name and combined it with the name I used when I sang in a band. That way people who knew me as either one would know who I was.
