DID SOMEONE SAY WOODCHIPS??????

If you can't make dirt stick to itself how in the hell do you think adding something dense in the mix is going to fix it??? Put golf balls in dirt, put broken glass in dirt, put BBs in dirt, those things aren't sticky either

"Oh the wood chips will absorb the water and release it as the track dries out"....RIGHT!!!! Ever noticed that when you cut firewood it won't burn right away but after it seasons a while it can soak in rainstorms all thru the fall and burn as soon as you put in in the stove? Wood has more density than dirt or water, that's why in America we prefer to build houses with wood instead of mud and grass. As you add water to dirt with woodchips the dirt will just keep getting sloppier and the wood will not change because the path of least resistence is the dirt.

Don't they use woodchips and sawdust on motocross tracks to make the dirt come apart, rut up and get all loamy???? ON purpose???

Don't they use sawdust on baseball fields to cover the mud up when they are too wet to play on???

Can anyone tell me of any dirt OVAL CAR race track that has tried the woodchip/sawdust method to compensate for crappy prep and been happy with the result??? I know I have heard it mentioned before but I have never heard anyone brag about the result.

The bottom line is sawdust and woodchips won't bond with sawdust and woodchips. How in the world is dirt full of sawdust going to bond with itself???

Maybe after Tony gets all the suites and jumbotrons and other goodies in place he is going to pave it. Might see a truck and /or Nationwide series race there someday. Might sound crazy but it could happen with all his connections down south. Tom Fischer-Ace Reporter and starter of rumours

I've seen dusty tracks at eldora and by the time they cancelled, I think everyone was willing to put up with the dusty end of it. The track was coming apart at the seems.

Biggest crowd I've seen for a usac show there, Honest cept mopar million. Great weather.

Start watering track at 4pm on race day and just spraying it, Not blasting it :7:

Im done bashing Eldora cause of it. IM just done with it. To many other great tracks putting on great shows. They may have screw ups too but they either complete the show, Refund your money or at least Apologize. I got none of that.

In fact, Id wonder if some other track would solicit the 3 crown away from Eldora.

Personally, I blame none of this on USAC I've already stated the reason why.

When i made an earlier post about us making an 8 hour trip to see the races this weekend i was all fired up to come until i read EldoraMarks report from what he seen at the track on Thursday. I sometimes might look into certain scanerios to much but this time i'm glad we stayed at home. Now if only i could put my mind reader skills to winniung the lottery!

hoosierfan 4/3/10 1:34 AM

I know I won't be back to Eldora until atleast the 3 Crown and that's only because its one of the last chances to see good racing in the area. Was talking to a local and he said that unless they know Tony is going to be there the track is crap. Atleast they refunded our tickets that means we don't have to go back if things haven't improved by the end of the year.

they did refund for grandstand tickets only, *** is up with that? no pit pass refunds. a lot of angry people sit through the 4 or 5 hour farm implement show. sad when tractors do more laps than race cars! that will be my last visit, i see no hope for tomorrow.

Re: It`ll be a NASCAR track soon

Eldora is in the process of becoming a NASCAR track.
It has all the earmark`s of that to me.
It will be paved in 5 years, and Tony can have all his new
Non Raceing Nascar (drivers) there a couple few time`s a year.
They`ll draw the crowd that just want`s to see the (BIG NAME)
drivers, and could care less about racing.

I feel sorry for EARL and his life`s work.Thank`s for the memories,
GOOD BYE ELDORA-----------:24::21::7:

Re: Eldora Update????

Maybe the next time Tony is racing on a Sunday afternoon he should take a look up into the stands when they are under caution. Even though they have the fancy facility with all the bells and whistles, there are tons of empty seats. If your racing on the track is no good, you are not going to draw the real diehard race fans that will come back year after year, instead of seekers who will go once or twice to see what it's like.

Tom Helfrich has seemed to make the wood chip idea work at Tri State Speedway. I honestly didn't think it ever would, but he has seemed to figure it out. May have something to do with the type of clay, and other ingredients that Tom has added (coke syrup??? ha ha) what ever it is the clay/dirt is very black now when a few years ago it was the traditional dark brown clay they always had. It maybe that this type of surface takes significantly more water and prep time, I see Tom out there many nights during the week making laps with the farm equipment and water trucks even if rain is forecast for the weekend of the race.
It makes me really respect a guy like Earl B, Tom, and others like Dave R. who put so much time into making a track that the drivers like and the fans want to go and spend their hard earned money on. JMO

I'm not 100% positive about this but i think they have done the "wood chip" thing at Angell Park in Sun Prairie and it has worked.

I agree completely. Bloomington is a great place to watch a race. You could throw Keith Ford from Paragon in there too.

The idea of the mile track was squashed many years ago.. Mr. Baltes began the process of making the track off of turn 2 and the backstretch. The source of the Wabash River starts right there on South East corner of the property... The DNR put a stop to it quickly and threatened if the source of the river was compromised, they would be taking it over to protect it. Well atleast that is the story I have been told.

Re: Eldora Update????

Eldora was starting to get crappy (dry/sheeps footed to hell and back/dusty/slick) the last few years Earl owned it.

Since TS has owned it, they have went for the 'flashy' type of crap (billboards, worthless scoreboard, suites....so much for "not changing the feel of Eldora"), and the track conditions have continued to go in the toilet.

A couple of years back, at the USAC opener they has put their fabulous 'new clay' down....what a disaster. It was motorcross track, and the car owners/crews/drivers should have just loaded up. The week before the Outlaws were there and ran the place like it was an -indoor race-...around the BOTTOM.

The same year the 4-Crown was a dusty as hell-long delay, disaster.

Stewart HAS TO get rid of Larry Kemp and Larry Boos, or he might as well lay black top.

(1:25 PM) - After several meetings between Eldora officials, USAC officials, and several drivers – the decision has been made to call oFf tonight’s event. While the track was coming around, the weather has not been cooperating, and with the forecast calling for more showers, and the high cost of travel – it was decided the best thing to do was to call the event at this time.

This event WILL be rescheduled, and we have exciting news regarding that reschedule date which will be released soon.

What Helfrich has made work is more of a hay and straw base, which acts as a sort of fiber for the clay to affix to. Oh...and he also works that track like he's working on bread dough, kneading it to make it rise. They massage that surface like it's their weekly job. I expect that Stewart will exact some pounds of flesh out of his minions for this already mythical F**kup.

May 14 and 15 are listed as TBA on the USAC sprint and midget schedule

May 29 and 30 are listed as TBA on the USAC sprint schedule with a race on May 31st at KC Raceway in Alama, OH

Looks like both are possibilities for this "exciting" news that Eldora's website mentions.

Doesn't matter to me though. I will spend my cash elsewhere. Sent my ticket stub from last night back to them through snail mail this morning.
