Before my retirement I only had one co-worker I could talk racing with. It was hard to give him the respect I thought a Manager deserved since he was a friend first and former supermodified driver.
Since so many of you in this thread have referred to NASCAR, I want to share what has become a pet-peeve of mine this summer. When has it become the in thing to have your obituary read "NASCAR FAN"? I have lost count on the number of obituaries I have seen posted in The Palladium-Times the local Oswego, N.Y. paper stating "NASCAR FAN". It was alot! So, I found myself asking what is up with that? Oswego residents have the best supermodified track in the country within their city limits and their obituary reads "NASCAR FAN". Go figure! Patti |
Re: How many of your co-workers follow sprint car racing??
At my last job I used to organize outtings to Lincoln Speedway and Williams Grove a couple times a year. I've introduced 20 + people to Sprint Car racing. I took an F1 fan from Scottland to the Grove once and he loved it He was an F1 snob that would not even watch any American racing until I had him stand in the infield of turn one at the Grove. He was amazed! Also had a couple guys from India that I took to Lincoln too. They had fun, but it wasn't their cup of tea! I got my boss an and another co-worker hooked on racing who never attended an event. Now we've been to races all over the country together.
Now because I go pit side so much I don't take new fans with me. I can't keep track of them and take photos at the same time. |

One time I had a guy say "I'm not a fan of racing, but I love NASCAR" theres no hope for some people :loser:

Re: How many of your co-workers follow sprint car racing??
Kentucky-Is brain washed with late models and nascar. It gets %$#@ frustrating trying to find anybody to go with me to any sprint car race. It Sucks! I would much rather go to a sprint car show winged or wingless rather Than to a late model or cup show anyday.

Re: How many of your co-workers follow sprint car racing??
While at one of my jobs the other day, someone said , "when they race, why dont' they go left also?"
I am not into NASCAR and any other racing as much as I used to, actually hardly at all, but knew there are road courses they race at. I just found it sorta funny. |

Re: How many of your co-workers follow sprint car racing??
I work in an Insurance office so there is just me and the agent I work for. He doesn't watch any kind of racing, but our office is in Bloomington so I can talk racing with a lot of our insureds some of them even help some local drivers in the pits! When we go to Bloomington Speedway (every Fri night during race season) We sit with most of the guys my fiance works with. So he has a good group of guys to talk to at work about sprint cars!

Re: How many of your co-workers follow sprint car racing??
I'm lucky I suppose. I work for car owner Mike Sala, who owns Sprint Cars and Midgets, so I'm able to keep up to date on what's going on out there and see things from a car owners perspective.
We took a co-worker to the races and this kid is hooked. He's a very bright kid.... |
Re: How many of your co-workers follow sprint car racing??
We purchased 4 season passes to the track we planned on racing at in '08. We split the tickets over the year between sponsors, co-workers, and people we knew who had never been to and/or did not know what a sprint car was other than "oh, those things that flip."
At seasons end, we had over 20 people in the stands who had never seen a sprint car race, and returned on their own at some point later in the year. We gained a sponsor with one of them, but more importantly - we(sprint car racing) gained a bunch of new fans who got to go out and tell others "you have to see it to believe it." Now my co-workers know the #19 on the back of my truck isn't for Elliot Sadler. ;) |
