What happened to Clayton tonight? Why was his time not allowed and why didn't he start in his heat?

Well we made a hardcore effort to make some magic tonight just wasn't meant to be had some drive line/rear issues I believe which would be better than the vibration in the 3R last night sometimes you just gotta do the smart thing even though it's not as much fun!

Thanks for all the fans keeping my spirits high and motivated to get this bumble bee 92 dusted off for Sunday at the class track. Winners can't quit and I won't quit. Hang in there friends and fans... I ain't goin nowhere

BigWheel7 7/17/14 11:00 PM

Hell of a race tonight. Sucks KT Jr bumped Windom and collected Grant.

BigWheel7 7/17/14 11:07 PM

Clayton was in Mike Terry's car tonight. He took one qualifying lap and shut her down with problems (I assume). Never made it back out after that.

Re: Putnamville 7-17-14

Putnamville, Indiana…….Robert Ballou broke a dry spell in the win department with the AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship, as he wired the field in a rim-riding display on Thursday night at Lincoln Park Speedway. The Rocklin, California driver officially led every lap at the line but fought back advances from Chris Windom early and Bryan Clauson late to score his sixth career win with the series in the Deaton’s Waterfront Services – Vinny DePalma Motorsports #12x Maxim/Ott.

“In my mind, I gave last night away, so it feels good to get one tonight. Tony Stewart Racing is a great operation and Bryan Clauson is as good as it gets. You can race with that guy. I wasn’t gonna let him get me twice in a row, though. I’m from Northern California and I’m used to big curbs like this. I’ve put in a lot of time up against them, and tonight it just got bigger and harder. I tried to pack it down and work on not losing too much off turn-two because I was better in three and four. We’ve gotten this Don Ott engine really driveable on the smaller tracks. He has made a big difference. It’s great to win for people like that and my guy Derrick Bye, who puts in a lot of time on this deal. Now, we’ve got to keep this rolling,” Ballou said.

After a few cars, including scheduled polesitter Chad Boespflug were late getting to the race track, Ballou was moved to the front row and out-gunned Windom to the early lead. Ballou carved in his path against the cushion, while Windom stuck to the low line. With a long green-flag stretch, those two were side-by-side for the lead with Ballou inching out an advantage at the stripe on a few occasions. Meanwhile, Clauson had started to slice his way from ninth into the top-five.

A red-flag for Jeff Bland, Jr. on lap nineteen was the first stoppage, as Clauson was able to join the lead pack that also included Kevin Thomas, Jr. and Thomas Meseraull. After the restart, Clauson, Windom, and Thomas fanned out three-wide for second as Ballou opened up some ground. That was short-lived, however, as Windom and Thomas spun together on lap 23, collecting sixth-running Justin Grant.

With just eight laps to go, it was a dogfight between Ballou and Clauson, as the two-time and defending National Champ dove underneath Ballou through turns one and two and edged ahead down the backstretch. Ballou leaned against the large Putnamville curb, though, and rocketed off turn-four with the lead. Clauson eventually jumped to the top in three and four just as Ballou made his only major mistake, and the two gathered both cars up and raced on.

Ballou was strong in the final couple laps, winning by .764 seconds over Clauson, who took over the “Indiana Sprintweek” point lead in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing – Chevy Performance #20 Beast/Kistler.

“Ballou ran a really good race and didn’t make many mistakes – we weren’t good enough in open track to get him. He made one big mistake and I wasn’t in position to capitalize on it. I moved around a little bit, and the bottom worked but it was tricky to run it. It wasn’t typical, for sure. I got in a rhythm and chased those guys down, but I hated to see that red when we started chipping into their lead. Tonight was good, though – we’re in the right direction and tonight was big in the points department,” Clauson said.

Meseraull kept his nose clean on the top and came home third in the Physical Medicine Consultants – Kercher Engines #41 DRC/Kercher.

“It’s good to put the Stenslands on the podium. We stuck to the top and missed a few things and had a great night from start to finish,” Meseraull said.

Jon Stanbrough finished fourth in the Griffin’s Propane – Indiana Underground Construction #37RW Maxim/Fisher, and Dave Darland charged from tenth to round out the top-five in the Phillips Motorsports – Racer’s Advantage Store #71P DRC/Foxco.

Brady Bacon began the night by setting the ProSource “Fast Time Award,” but changed an engine after the Semi-Feature and finished ninth, leaving his National point lead over Darland at eleven points.

Tracy Hines’ drive from 22nd to finish 11th garnered the B&W Auto Mart “Hard Charger Award,” and his recovery from qualifying 33rd to make the Feature earned him the ProSource “Hard Work Award.” Jarett Andretti earned the American Racing Ministries “Perseverance Award” as the final transfer out of the Semi-Feature.

Per USAC Rule Book

Provisional Starting Positions

The National Sprint Car Series will include a maximum of two (2) provisional starters in each feature event providing there are eligible entrants who accept this option. (USAC/CRA events may utilize one (1) provisional)

The following conditions apply to provisional starters:

1. The top 20 in Entrant points are eligible for a maximum of four (4) provisional starts per season National and two (2) for USAC/CRA with the top Entrant in points, not qualifying for the feature, being the first recipient. If an eligible Entrant elects not to use a provisional, his/her position will be taken by the next highest in point standings. No guaranteed start money if provisional used.

2. First event for 2014: “Provisional” will be based on 2013 season ending top 20 car owner points.

3. Second event for 2014: “Provisional” will be based on current 2014 season top 20 car owner points.

4. Starting positions, point allocations and additional eligibility requirements can be found in 5.4C, 5.10 and 9.10C.

Re: Putnamville 7-17-14

thanks tim for the grown up answer. but still not sure how that u can b out of the top 20 and still get one. i think provisionals should still go away they should just take the best 24 of the night we r suppose to b big boys no need for training wheels jmo. guys that dont run with usac should b able to get the same chance of making the race as every one else. i guess my opinion of earning it is different than a daddys point of view

Sandy Lowe 7/18/14 5:49 PM

I believe the entrant points that are currently posted on USAC's website are after Lawrenceburg & before Terre Haute.

At Terre Haute Brady finished 3rd in his heat & 5th in the feature. I believe the points he earned that night moved the Pottorf #11p into the top twenty in entrant points ahead of the Keen #18x & the Baldwin #5 making him eligible for a provisional at Lincoln Park.

I didn't get in on any of the free food, but LPS is near the top of my list of favorite tracks. I like the physical facility with its' variety of seating options and the restroom facilities which are clean and well supplied. Probably best track for socializing.

chathamracefan 7/20/14 10:22 PM

LPS is a really good track. The setting is one of the favorites of any track I've been to.
