they'll need to build mucho :23:more bleachers if (or should I say when) the midget division takes off!

If people couldn't block their seats off for the season it would be interesting to see how many people got ticked off, stayed home instead and proved they really weren't fans after all.

They had bleachers bought a few years ago and the town would not allow them to build them. They sold them for a loss. Will we see you there supporting the big chance they are taking with midgets?

Made it to gc twice last year(spring usac sprint/IMW). Got there a hour before hotlaps both times. Sat a few from top both times towards turn 1. I've not been there for ISW though I know it's busier but should be common sense to get there early for bigger shows.

Really John there were only 7 according to Jiggs .

They would not grant them a building permit. I am not sure why. They told them they could only extend seats as part of the same grandstand. That is when they added another section towards turn1. I do know that a couple of years ago I was working a booth at our county fair and met a couple of people from Gas City. I told them I was there almost every Friday. I figured they would welcome a visitor. Their response was " I hope you don't go to that racetrack. They need to shut it down and level it." I could not believe it as I know the track contributes a lot to the local economy. They also run a timely program and get over early.

Just for the record, not all people in Gas City dislike the track. Many businesses advertise at the track. The truckstop at I69 has given us free showers in the morning after camping at the track, and 2 different places to eat have thanked me for stopping, and commented how they love race nights.

Re: Gas City Seats

Not going to waste my time with 5 pages of complaints but I solved this problem 7 years ago for the staff. Take 1 section of bleachers (which ever section the locals reserve the least amount of seats in) and reserve them for presale. Add a presale box office to the website. Charge an additional $5 to cover the fee's involved. Sell the top 4 or 6 rows. You want a top row seat and do not attend weekly, reseve it on line. Track gets there money before the show ever happens. You do not show up to claim your seat, track keeps your money. Seats are not sold by heat 1, make an announcemnet and let people move in. I agree with rewarding the local fans that support each week. Many of us are jelouse this track is not in our back yard to be able to attend weekly.

Honestly I only get to make a couple of races at Gas City each year. In the past when money was tight I have skipped races because I knew I could not get to the track and set where I want to. Now though when ever I go to Gas City, I just get a pit pass. Always a top row seat open. Plenty of room to stretch out.

Re: Gas City Seats

Have been going to GC for years. ALWAYS see reserved seats unused. Now I only go to USAC/KISS shows and leave angry every time. Many of my friends avoid the track. Seats should only be reserved the day of the race. Easy for Jiggs to clear the seats the day before the races.

This whole thread is RIDICULOUS. I dont care if I sit or stand as long as I get to watch im happy. If you want to complain about seats just sit at home in your Lay-Z-Boy and watch some napcar!:5:

I would think that building new bleachers would be quite expensive, but I think there is a way to improve the existing bleachers at much less cost, although I don't know that any Promoter has money laying around for Bleacher improvements. I've actually seen someone at Gas City who made his own "elevated Seat", but of course the person behind would not be happy about having his view obstructed, so in reality all of the seating planks need to be spaced up and raised. Here is a rough sketch of what would work using either wooden or metal spacer blocks, and elevating the existing seating planks, or adding new boards on top of the spacers.

What I do not understand, that many years ago they added new bleachers on the east side. But the made them just like old bleachers. That did not make sense.

How could people that live in Gas City not like the track? They should live where i do. If i had a left nut i would give it up to be sitting at Gas City every Friday.

All the people ******** ought go to California for a year , 8.00 to park (not camp) 20.00 for a regular show, 9.00 for a draft beer . 7.50 for a hot dog . 9.00 dollar hamburger . Oh yea it's really bad at Gas City .:32::32::32::32:

"California Dreamin'" has turned into "California Nightmare" in many ways over the years. Smoking pot on the street is probably no big deal but if you fire up a cigarette on a beach a drone will take you out one day.

The people I talked to would never lower themselves to go there. Probably built a house down the road, and feel somehow they are the victim.

That is the only way they could get a permit. They had to match up to the old ones

Re: Gas City Seats

There are quite a few ppl from gas city that support the track and the city/track have always had a really good relationship..but like any town that has a track on the outer limits or in town there are always those ones that complain about everything..having the race track has really helped the businesses out by the interstate on the weekends with hotel reservations and the eatery's..I will admit the bleachers arent the most comfy ones out there but if your seeing good racing that should be all that matters..and if your staying home because you dont like the bleachers than its your own loss..but I have supported Gas City since i was 11 and I just turned 28..It would be ashame to not have the race track anymore..

I Mel Botkin, leased and took over as director of operations for Gas City I-69 Speedway in January, and I would like to introduce myself and my background. I taught elementary school in Muncie, Indiana, for 36 years coaching most sports. I officiated high school basketball for 38 years, was President of the Selma Little League in Selma, Indiana, for 13 years, and have owned and operated Botkin Trophies for the past 52 years. In addition, I raced go carts for 6 years owned and operated the Winchester Moto-X track for 4 years and owned the 3M Pak-A-Sak sprint car driven by John Wolf that raced at Gas City for 8 years (winning 3 track championships). In 2002 the track was chosen as the number one 1/4 mile dirt bull ring track in the nation. Jiggs Thomoson was chosen the promoter that year. I was elected to the Delware County council in 2003 for a 4 year term. Presently, my wife, Linda, and I do missionary work in Jamaica.

Wow, i thought everyone in the entire state of Indiana was a sprint car fan! Our fairgrounds and track here are located right in town just 2 blocks off the main street that goes through town.

Most of the complaints here in Kokomo come from people who live outside of town.
